  1. Me on Charlie Fermaint after watching the scouting video: Smooth, quick swing with some upward motion towards the end. Really gets hands around on the ball. Prepitch gyrations settle into a snap still instantly before the swing, showing quick twitch. Moves legs well out of box. Looks the part of a corner OF. Bounds around in the outfield and puts his enitre body into the throw, which is generally accurate, though not overly strong.
  2. Me on Robbie Wooley after watching the scouting video: Consistent 89-91 on decent fastball, with a high effort top end in the middle 90's. Sharp curveball that breaks mostly down and looks to be especially effective on lefties with a jamming motion to it. Changeup is just OK. Throws fastball and change from a slightly different arm angle than the curve, which needs to be fixed. There is also wasted motion on the delivery where his delivery arm brushes past his low thigh, causes him to straightarm the ball more than necessary. More velocity could be added with smoother mechanics. Pitching from the stretch seems to come more naturally than from the windup.
  3. Me on Garrett Bussiere after watching the scouting video: Tall, lanky frame that moved well behind the plate. Has a weird stance somewhat reminiscent of Benito Santiago, with his left foot well in front of a lowered back foot. Made pretty accurate snap throws to second, and moves well with gear. Has a wobly stance at the plate. He begins the pitch in the back of the box, has a high leg kick, then winds up in the front of the box, sometimes causing him to hop a little after he lands. Big, long swing with some bat speed. Defense much more advanced than offense. Compare to: Brian Foster.
  4. That's a heckuva lineup choice Frank Kremblas has to make each night 1-6 with Noochie, Hardy, and Krynzel towards the top, and Hart, Clark, and Gemoll somewhere in the middle. It's nice to see a good fullseason ballclub every once in awhile. BTW, where o' where is Chad Petty?
  5. Compliments of Socal and BA: Astute area scouts also had their sights set on LHP/OF Greg Kloosterman. While interest has waned since March, Kloosterman was his conference's player of the year as a two-way star. He holds the career home run record at his high school and homered 18 times in each of the last two years at Bethel. His loose left arm has most scouts intrigued. He pitches between 85-88 mph and touches 90, showing running action at the plate. His curveball and changeup are inconsistent due to minor mechanical flaws that should be corrected with pro instruction. Kloosterman has an athletic frame and has drawn comparisons to Denny Neagle. He could be drafted by the fifth round.
  6. Round 11: Adam Heether, College 3B, R/R, 6'0, 200, 21 Round 12: Carlos Corporan, College 1B, S/R, 6'3, 210, 19 Round 13: Luke Cannon, College OF, L/L, 6'1, 195, 18 The new Mr. Cannon? Round 14: Garrett Bussiere, HS C, R/R, 6'3, 178, 17 "Large frame. Long and lean. Slight uppercut swing, occasional pull power. Arm works right. Sure hands. Physical maturity will bring future development. Defensive skills will be strong suit." Round 15: Joel RIvera, HS OF, R/R, 6'1, 165, 17 Round 16: Mitch Stetter, College LHP, L/L, 6'4, 195, 22 Round 17: Tommy Hawk, HS RHP, R/R, 6'2, 215, 18 Round 18: Oscar Montes, HS RHP, R/R, 6'3, 220, 18 Round 19: Ty Taubenheim, College RHP, R/R, 6'5, 235, 20 Round 20: Nick Slack, College RHP, R/R, 6'1, 215, 20 "Very animated on mound, but will get after it. Threw w/better vel in fall. Mech need work." Well, that ends that for today. Discuss.
  7. No scouting from MLB. 6'3, 205, about to turn 21.
  8. MLB: "Muscular build. Average bat speed with strength. Solid catch and throw. Shifts and blocks well. Struggling with bat. Lacks intensity offensively." Basically, MLB scouting is saying he sucks. Great. Go Brian!
  9. R/R 20 years old... "Strong, Medium build. Body type like Brad Ausmus. Strong arm with soft hands. Blocks bad pitches and keeps the ball in front. Makes adjustments with the bat and hits oppposite field well. Hardworker. Very competitive."
  10. When does the draft start on Tuesday anyway?
  11. Props for both DJ Clark and Danny Kolb. Clark has walked 5 times in the last two games, to raise his Huntsville total to 11 in 51 AB, and is already 7th on the team, only 2 behind Corey Hart in almost a quarter of the AB. Going from the Cal League to the Southern League is not an easy task on the bat, so it is nice to see DJ keeping up his walk totals as his bat comes around. Danny Kolb has been unconscious in AAA all season and is yet one more option for a Milwaukee bullpen arm if the current guys are dealt. His WHIP has been around 1 the whole campaign, and he's striking out 11 batters per 9 innings, while walking only 3 per 9. Between Kolb, Foster, and Nance, there are three guys in Indy that could step in to the bullpen for the Brewers and be pretty decent. On the flip side, Noochie Varner with an 0-13 start to his Brewers career, including 8 K's? Ouch.
  12. Jeff Allison on in relief Heh. Got draft on the brain, Brian?
  13. I was right about Beresford. Yay. More Power 50 jockeying. Boo.
  14. 12/12/83. Very good news indeed.
  15. Just glancing through some people's mock drafts stealing ideas and noticed Loewen was still in a good number of them, so don't forget to take him out and adjust accordingly. My new mock draft includes the DRays taking Matt Harrington #1, and then of course failing to sign him.
  16. A High Desert shutout, albeit in Stockton? Chris Saenz and Tony Stavros are my heros for the day. Jason Belcher walked again, too. It looks like my Power 50 prodding is finally paying off http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. BA will have it's DFE recap article posted on Friday (for subscribers), so we should know by then at the latest.
  18. I take it that Noochie is not yet in Huntsville?
  19. Just to mess with us, every single last DFE candidate will be signed except Mannon and Loewen. Edit: er, Eveland.
  20. If there is some small consolation, they don't get an extra pick anymore, meaning we move up a spot. I guess that's worth it. That and we have Jeff Housman, dang it. He has become the new Loewen.
  21. I just have this sick feeling in my stomach that Stauffer will be announced as the Brewers' pick on draft day. And that neither Eveland or Mannon signed. And that the sky is falling. Hoax. Hoax. Hoax.
  22. I just checked out the Balto newspaper and didn't find anything. I'm reporting that they didn't sign him, and we have more pull. If they did sign him, I'm going to go punch something inanimate. EDIT: Here is the excerpt from their site: "WBAL's Steve Melewski is reporting that the Baltimore Orioles have signed their first round pick from the 2002 draft, pitcher Adam Loewen. The 6-6 left-hander agreed to terms just before the deadline passed that would have seen him re-enter the draft. He was not expected to last past the second pick this year, with the Milwaukee Brewers, owners of that pick, expressing strong interest in the Canadian hurler. According to Melewski, Loewen signed a multi-year deal, and might have even agreed to a major league contract with the team. If that's the case that would place him on the 40-man roster immediately. The Orioles had one opening on their roster after waiving outfielder Gary Matthews earlier in the week. " Major league deal possibly? Egads. Well, Delmon Young it is, maybe.
