  1. yea, he hasn't walked since may 28. my point still remains...if he can keep up a .690 OPS it's not a huge problem and there's really no room for improvement within the organization. I'd still be happy if they tried to make a trade, obviously.
  2. yuni did have a .284/.281/.409 line in June. A .690 OPS would put him in the upper half for SS in the league. Yes, that is probably the exception and not the rule (although it is in line with career #'s and last season in KC). And yes, he is a butcher defensively. But if he keeps hitting OK like he did in June, I don't think it's a huge problem to have him in the lineup, given the alternatives.
  3. For what it's worth, Matt Kemp doesn't contribute much on defense either. Even after pointing that out though, Kemp would still get my vote. He's been the best player in the NL, and by being the best player he has contributed the most "value" to his team. I don't care if they aren't having a good season. 2 and 3 would be Prince and Reyes (depending on how much weight is given to defense).
  4. don't worry, mauer will hit a grounder right at someone. should be an easy DP.
  5. Definitely didn't have his best stuff (or mediocre), but he really didn't make a terrible pitch or have anything hit hard until the Cano RBI single and then Swisher's HR (I guess the Granderson triple/error was technically hit hard). The Yankees just don't chase anything, so he had some uncharacteristic baserunners through walks. it sucks.
  6. back to back 30 pitch innings can't be easy on the arm. i doubt he's hurt, but it could be a precautionary move to get him out of there before he does any damage (to his arm, that is).
  7. time for everyone to jump back onto that greinke ledge.
  8. I don't have any problem with the team they brought to the Gold Cup (only major argument would be for Timothy Chandler). The goal was to get to the Confederation's Cup, which 1 year prior to the world cup would provide really important experience for young players that will need to make an impact in 2014 (specifically on the backline). It's easy to say in retrospect "hey we lost the gold cup anyway, we should have at least done it with a young team to get them experience"...but really, what would have been better: Losing the Gold Cup with a young team, gaining experience against guadaloupe, panama, and canada (and mexico, to be fair)...or winning the Gold Cup, despite using players who might not be around in 2014, so that a young team can prepare for the world cup with matches against teams like Italy, Brazil, and Spain in the confederations cup? It didn't work out the way we hoped, but the latter is the better option. There is still a lot of time before the next world cup. I don't think the USMNT lost a great chance to develop new players/chemistry/whatever in the Gold Cup. Between qualifying, friendlies, and another Gold Cup, they will likely play 30ish games before 2014. That is a lot of time to develop the next iteration of the USMNT. I just don't agree with criticizing Bradley for the team he used...now if he (or whoever may be coaching) is still using a Goodson/Bocanegra combination in the middle when qualifying starts next year instead of using some combo of Ream/Opara/Gonzalez/Agbossumonde/someone I'm probably missing, then that's a whole different story.
  9. I agree that Reyes and Kemp have put up similar stats (though I would argue not quite as good as Prince), but I guarantee you if the season ended today, Prince would take the MVP vote by a landslide for precisely the argument you mentioned. First place team vs. nearly last place teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Braun finished second.Kemp's stats are better than Prince's. Higher average, 10 points of OBP lower, but 10 points of SLG higher. Factor in 21 steals and his stats are just a little bit better than Prince's. Reyes is a different kind of player, but he's been excellent on both sides of the ball and has done so at a thin position like SS. One could defintely argue he has been more valuable than anyone in the NL. The Mets are also .500 and within 4 or 5 games of the wildcard, for what it's worth. And since you mentioned it, for every "his team isn't good enough argument" there could very easily be a "he has Ryan Braun (and Weeks) on his team, how can he be that valuable with two all stars in front of him?" Not knocking Prince here, or saying that it's wrong to vote for him. Just think that saying it's "not close" or would be a landslide is incorrect. He might win, but it would be close.
  10. no, it's definitely close. As amazing as Prince has been, Matt Kemp has been better. He's on pace for a 40/40 season with a .329/.418/.625 line. If you want to use the "he plays on a losing team, so he can't be MVP" argument, that's fine. To each their own. But either way, "not even really close" isn't the right way to describe it. Reyes would definitely belong in the conversation as well. Also, there is absolutely no reason at this point that there should be a discussion regarding trading Prince. It can't happen and it won't happen.
  11. Has to be Braddock, right? The Yankees have a pretty balanced lineup of RHB, LHB, and switch hitters....and with that short porch in left I feel like you have to have a lefty in the pen to try and neutralize Cano, Granderson (although he's been KILLING LHP this year...pretty much killing everything), and I guess Gardner....along with getting switch hitters like Teixeira and Posada hitting from their worse side. Seems to make too much sense, although there's been quite a few things this year that made a lot of sense that the brewers haven't done....so who knows.
  12. No. Even though he got a hit anyway, Thome KILLS right handed pitching....career OPS of over 1.000. Without a lefty in the pen, leaving Narveson in was the right move.
  13. they were both earned. Did the broadcast only show one?
  14. there's about 750 major league players, but only 30 managers...so it's a little bit of a different scenario. He's not a very good manager in the first place (or at least has had incredibly limited success), and combine that with the fact that he quit on his team in the middle of the season over money. Players get benched and ripped in the media for jogging to first base, how is this any different? If anything, it's much worse. I can't imagine him ever getting another managerial job.
  15. ha, the first thing that popped into my head when i read the first post was "not a chance, dude's getting a stunner". Maybe I'd hug him, and then afterward we'd exchange that "see, that wasn't so bad" look...then i'd go for the kick in the gut and then the stunner. We can team up on this. I don't know if I can pull off a frog splash. But I could bring a boombox and pump stone cold's theme song while we walk away and Albert writhes in pain.
  16. "double" used very loosely there. but yea, weird call.....jones would have just driven him home.
  17. Wanted to say this earlier, but I didn't want to jinx it. As others mentioned it's a lot more palatable when that backup is Kottaras...but as long as Randy Wolf is pitching well, I don't care who is catching for him (yes, i would still be fine with Nieves if that meant Wolf pitched 7 strong innings). It shouldn't matter who's catching him, but if it keeps him in the right frame of mind and keeps him effective....then keep Lucroy on the bench for his starts (he can't start every day anyway http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
  18. I say he should take a long run. How far to Nashville? about 500 miles. he could walk it. just to be the man.
  19. Glad we aren't the only ones in this world to think this. Only difference is we aren't surprised any more. Loe vs, RH bats is nice. Looking good tonight. Mauer's a lefty, for what it's worth.
  20. Didn't want to put the lead man in scoring position, and could set up a lefty-lefty matchup. I don't agree with it, but that was the reasoning.
  21. Hawkins was warming last inning. It was probably just to clean up after Wolf in the 7th....but i'll continue to keep my fingers crossed and then be disappointed.
  22. So glad they gave Mijares that corner on ball 4.
  23. The twins have had runners in scoring position in 4 out of the 7 innings.
  24. That's why I don't have a huge problem with Morgan bunting early in games. Might end up as just a sacrifice, but even if the infield is charging in he always has a chance to beat it out. He's too good of a hitter to have him do it EVERY time (which it feels like sometimes)...but it can work out pretty well.
