  1. DFA him? Wow, I would think that might be drastic. If you want Green to start over him cool, but then wouldn't you want Casey off the bench at least?I'm not exactly serious, but I could care less if he ever plays for this team again. Why would you want a snail slow, no defense, no bat right hand hitter on the bench? Obviously he's been brutal this year, but if you figure is bat is somewhere between this season and the past two (even if you want to say it's closer to what he's doing now) he'd probably be a better bat than the majority of the bench players in the league.
  2. It's probably even more about what they thought of Prince v. Baker. I think there's a pretty good chance they would have walked him even if Hart was batting 5th. Of course, Hart might have been able to do something with that hanger...but that's a different argument that's been beaten to death.
  3. How is Maggette for Jackson lateral? He's probably not worth his contract, but jackson is definitely an upgrade. Aside from the intangible type of things like Jackson wanting to win vs. Maggette's apathy...he's a more complete offensive player. Whereas Maggette's offense consists of putting his head down and trying to draw contact (and looking lazier than ever trying to do it this year), Jackson is capable of creating offense for the rest of the team and making a pass (3.5 assists per game isn't great, but it's an upgrade). Combine that with the fact that he seems to care and will put in work on the defensive end, and he's an upgrade. I really think the team just had to get rid of Maggette. He contributed nothing on the floor and was not a good person to have in a locker room around a young team. Moving down nine spots in the draft is a lot, but in a really really weak draft it's a move you can make with few regrets (I think Kawhi Leonard is the only player who can make them regret the deal, and he cancelled a workout with the team bc he wasn't supposed to be available at 10). It's not a great trade by any means, and it would have been a lot better if we didn't sign salmons in the first place....but I think it's enough to get the team back to the playoffs. And worst case scenario the team still has the same problems, but at least they saved money. Either way, Kings fans are going to be more upset with the deal.
  4. well, considering he was pinch hitting for the starting catcher...he was going to have to use the backup catcher anyway.
  5. Didn't look like anything too bad, probably just tweaked it and they don't want to risk it. With off days on either side of the twins series, they should be able to skip his next start (in the Yankees series) and use the other 4 guys on normal days rest. Then put Marcum back in the series in Minnesota after 9 or 10 days off. And if he still can't go, then I guess Estrada. But either way if he misses a start they should be able to use a 4 man rotation the next time through.
  6. marcum is pretty lucky that bob davidson wasn't behind the plate, because he definitely would have called that a balk. he might have actually been right for once too. and rodriguez was safe.
  7. maybe the person who wrote that is very far out of the market, like myself....so we can watch the game on mlb.tv.
  8. I've always kind of been a fan of the A's. I think it started when I was young and I just liked their colors, but as I started to get really into baseball I liked the way they built their team and enjoyed cheering for them against the richer teams like the Yankees (of course that never worked out). I usually pull for the Twins in the playoffs. And I don't really cheer for but hope teams like the Indians (Cleveland needs SOMETHING), Royals and Orioles (good franchises that deserve better) do well. And the blue jays (joe carter! an early, awesome sports memory for me). So I guess my answer is not really...I end up pulling for the not red sox or yankees. And don't really care for the Angels, Rangers or White Sox for whatever reason. Although my brother in law grew up on the north side of chicago in a family of cubs fans and became a sox fan...so for his sake i guess they can do well. Wow, that was a whole lot of nothing I just went through up there http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif. go brewers, i guess.
  9. 2009, obviously. I don't think anyone here was expecting Greinke to pitch that well. I dont think anyone here expects ANYONE to pitch that well (it was the fourth highest WAR of the past decade, and the highest since Randy Johnson in '04). But I will gladly take the 5 WAR pitcher he was on either side of that year, with the added potential to dominate for stretches like he did for all of 2009. He looked great tonight. I'm not going to try and use one start to say "hey, he's fixed! see, there was no problem!" He gets to bookend the next roadtrip against a ridonkulous Yankee lineup (in a bandbox of a stadium) and a suddenly hot (or at least productive, 5+ runs/game) Twins lineup. Will be fun.
  10. I liked Prince talking to Davidson after that pitch came at his head..."was that enough of an effort for you?"
  11. anybody else's heart skip a beat thinking rickie might try to stretch that into two?
  12. That probably won't happen, but i would guess that this opens up the door for prince to start at DH.
  13. did they seriously credit pedroia with a double and not give hart an error for that?
  14. thank god. routine play, but way to make up for it prince.
  15. yikes. in what world was that strike 3 to braun.
  16. not a chance. he was only up for Youk in the 7th.
  17. Very glad Wolf gave up the two out hit. Now we don't have to watch Loe v. Gonzalez and Ortiz. Just Ortiz. Raise your hand if you're excited about that.
  18. i don't think he was expecting Ellsbury to get there so quickly to cut it off. Usually when a guy dives and misses like Cameron did the ball bounces around for a bit and the hitter has a chance to go three. But yea, definitely jumped the gun a little bit.
  19. not exactly textbook form there from yuni, but i'll take it. glad it was right at him.
