  1. Then compare them to Brandon wood in AAA at 23. I'm definitely not saying green shouldn't have been given a chance by now...but if he struggled mightily in the majors he wouldn't be the first guy to do so, and he certainly wouldn't be the last. He should have had his shot by now...but aaa success certainly doesn't always translate well to MLB success
  2. No way they are done making moves. Teams like the dodgers knew we needed infield help to begin with, and now that they see we are desperate for it with weeks out they're driving up the asking price. As the deadline gets closer, hopefully someone blinks and the team can pick up some infield help
  3. I'm not happy about Farris being called up instead of Green, but I'm not getting worked up about it until August 1st. If no moves are made, and Farris (or Lopez) is on the roster instead of Green, then that's a huge problem...and i think we could all make a pretty safe guess that Green must be on the PTBNL list. But I think the team is still trying to make a move (or moves) and they don't want to add Green to the 40 man. Let's see what Melvin gets done over the weekend (and yes, I agree there's a very strong argument that Green should be up over a guy like McGehee already)..but let's revisit it when we see the roster on Sunday night/Monday.
  4. At this point though, one's got to think that some of Melvin's aggressiveness is encouraged by Attanasio and his desire to win. Since Doug is the one making the moves he deserves the majority of the credit/blame; I just happen to think that Mark A. encourages it. To what degree is anyone's guess, but he encourages it none-the-less.Right, but when you've got a .500-something OPS, bad defense 3B at the MLB level, and a .950-ish OPS, better defense 3B/2B in AAA, you don't trade the AAA guy. They made a list of five players for the Mets to choose from, why couldn't it have been a list of four players not including Taylor Green? Plus, if the Mets haven't jumped on Green by now, the other players on the list must be as good as Green, so it certainly isn't the list of mid-tier, probably never make the majors prospects Melvin made it out to be. That last part is just false. Like many have said, there's a good chance Farris was called up because he's on the 40 man, and its just as filler until a trade is made this weekend. But there's no reason to assume that all of the players on the list are as good as green, because the mets "haven't jumped on green by now". The mets would be stupid to pick the two players now instead of scouting them for the next month or so. If Green is on the list, don't you think they might want to see him play more than 20 games at 2B to see if he can stick there? Because I'm guessing he's not in their future plans at third. Maybe another player on the list can get hot like Green has. Maybe someone is coming back from an injury. There's no reason to take a player now and have to pay him, when you can just scout them for free.
  5. Counsell's a fine defender at 2nd, if we're looking for a no-bat good glove 2B. I guess call up Farris for a few days as a utility guy, and send him back down after trading for carroll, barmes, ryan, kennedy, etc (hopefully a combination of them). Don't waste an option on Green if you're a) not going to play him at 3B instead of Casey and b) going to trade for a guy to play 2nd. of course it's probably option c) trade him for KRod
  6. RRR: "He's going to be out a while. It's not a couple of days." Doh http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif. Carroll and Barmes or Furcal or something. gotta get 2 IF now.
  7. clint barmes just made the first out advancing from 2nd to 3rd. fine, it was on a sac bunt attempt....but it looks like he'd fit right in with the brewers!
  8. Bunting there isn't terrible, and going with LHer to try and disguise it sure, but your back up catcher and only real power threat? exactly. i don't have a problem with bunting. personally i wouldn't do it, but i think that 90% of managers would...it is what it is. but using the backup catcher (even if he wasn't the best power threat on the bench) instead of wilson is just puzzling.
  9. well, i guess wanting to have carroll ready to pinch hit for morgan if they brought in a lefty makes sense. still don't get why you don't have wilson bunt instead of kottaras.
  10. I don't have a problem using the backup catcher...but to bunt when there's a guy like carroll or wilson on the bench? just seems odd.
  11. greinke deserved better on that ball 3 call to dewitt. oh well, hopefully saito can pick him up.
  12. not necessarily. like someone who mentioned what happened to them, there's always similar plays in basketball where one guy comes down on another's foot and rolls it real bad and has to be helped off the court without putting pressure on it. Or an RB running through the hole who steps on a d-lineman's foot. Sometimes those guys are out a while, sometimes they come back the next quarter. I'm expecting the worst for weeks, because that was ugly...but you never know.
  13. x-rays negative, so no break. would guess weeks gets an MRI tomorrow to see if there's a sprain/how severe.
  14. give me a break...thats ridiculous.McGehee/Counsell/Yuni infield? And we're going to beat the Phillies?the giants won the world series last year, did you see their lineup? also, 4 more days to make a trade. also, we don't know the extent of the injury yet. based on the looks of it, i agree with assuming the worst. but you never know.
  15. he rolled onto the outside of his ankle really really hard as well. it could really be anything, most of which are not very good.
  16. I think ultimately Melvin was just kind of there saying "We know we don't have (or want to give up) the prospects you're looking for...but if no one blinks and gives up a top prospect, we'll give you this and pick up the salary".
  17. Sounds like Beltran is going to the Giants. It's being reported as very very close from multiple reports. Morosi said the Giants changed their mind and appear to be willing to include Gary Brown.
  18. I don't think Rasmus is a huge loss for the Cardinals this year. Jay is playing well, and I would say they're fairly equal going forward for this season. But beyond this season it will hurt St Louis, because Rasmus has so much potential (which was seen last year). 24 yo CF that can hit like he did last year are a pretty useful commodity, especially at the price he will be paid the next three years. Because of that potential, they HAVE to be getting more than just Jackson for him. The Blue Jays have a pretty good system, so they have expendable prospects. I don't see any way it's just a jackson/rasmus swap.
  19. I hate when an ump makes a safe call just because a ball beat the player. But like SoCal said, when it beats him by THAT much it better be pretty damn clear that the tag missed. It wasn't a good tag by McKenry, and I acknowledge that there's a small chance he missed (especially watching it in realtime)...but I just don't see how you make that safe call. And any question on if the tag was applied is answered by Lugo's reaction. He was out.
  20. Well, he was going to throw to first because Scott Proctor tripped over his own feet and it was an easy double play. i HATE when umpires make a safe call just because the ball beat the player to the plate. But when the ball beats him by THAT much, it has to be absolutely clear that the tag missed, the player slid around it, etc. That was not the case here.
  21. another angle. probably even worse. http://i.imgur.com/JiMyv.jpg
  22. Make up an injury for him until september. Make room for him when the rosters expand for september/the playoffs. Then let him help the brewers win in the bottom of the 9th of game 7 of the world series because that's what craig counsell does.
