  1. it's really really good. I'm partial to the one at turner field, but fenway has a great one as well.
  2. Except, he really hasn't been falling behind a lot of guys. The biggest issue is his babip against with RISP is .484. That is ridiculous. Guys wouldn't even do that in BP. Doesn't that have to do with the fact that most of the balls (or at least it seems) hit off of him are hit hard, which might suggest he's getting a lot of the plate with his pitches and guys are just waiting to tee off? I'm not sure, I'm just wondering. I'm sure a lot of it is bad luck but I would think a BABIP would be higher than average if guys can just wait for a pitch and tee off..484 is just ridiculous though. Only 2 other guys in the league are above .450, and then Cliff Lee is at .429. BABIP isn't a stat that can explain everything, and it can be overused to dismiss results, but I think in an extreme case like this it does show something. Also, for what it's worth three of Greinke's worst starts this year have come with Nieves (Atlanta), Rivera (Colorado), and Kottaras (Cubs). In his six starts with Lucroy his ERA is at a solid (still not great or what I would expect from him ) 4.03. Normally I think the pitcher/catcher relationship can be a little overblown....but maybe in the case of a guy like Greinke who has had anxiety issues in the past it can matter a little bit. Maybe he got a little worked up after that passed ball by Kottaras in the Cubs game. I'm probably looking into it a little bit too much trying to find an answer, but maybe there's something there.
  3. How do you explain his 26.6% LD%? That would indicate that he is in fact throwing too many meatballs and the batters are squaring him up.I can't explain it, which is why the end of my post (which you didn't include) mentioned how those stats confused me. Yes, if a pitcher has a high line drive rate it would make sense that he is throwing too many meatballs and batters are squaring him up. But looking at Greinke's stats, he's throwing far fewer pitches in the strike zone than he ever has and is missing more bats than he ever has. Therefore, I'm confused. I'm on the optimistic side of this, I think 50 IP is way too small of a sample and his peripherals (outside of LD%) are great....I think he's going to get there. I understand why people are worried...but it's either think Greinke isn't as good as advertised/expected or that he's been a victim of bad luck. No one seems to be convincing the other side, seems like one of those situations where it's best to agree to disagree.
  4. Only 40.7% of Greinke's pitches have been in the strike zone this year, which is far and away a career low for him (51.4% on his career). His swinging strike % (i.e. percentage of strikes that were swings and misses) is at 12.1%, a career high (and near league high, up there with Cliff Lee and Marcum). That kind of goes against the school of thought that he's throwing too many meatballs and batters are squaring him up. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong for thinking that...but just making an observation that leaves me even more confused as to why Greinke is giving up so many runs.
  5. Yeah, poor Greinke. He's only given up 5 hard hit balls and a walk in two innings today. Also probably not a good time for Greinke and Kottaras to be pitcher and catcher together for the first time. There was basically no time for either of them to prepare. Didn't Kottaras catch him when he was on his rehab assignments? Not saying it's ideal, but they've seen each other before.
  6. i understand not wanting to take prince out in case there are extras...but gomez or morgan would have made a ton of sense. not that it matters.
  7. i have an old billy hall jersey collecting dust in my closet. I need to find somewhere that can convert it to a Plush jersey. immediately.
  8. I just love watching Craig Kimbrel pitch. I knew he had blown some games, didn't realize it was 5....so I guess I can agree with him not making it. But he's quickly becoming one of my favorite non-brewers in the league.
  9. Castro's definitely the only option for the Cubs. If Garza didnt get hurt/have absolutely terrible luck he would be an option as well. But pitching is deep, and the left side of the infield is not....so castro will be the choice. And Roberts absolutely deserves to be the backup 3B. He's been really good, the game is in AZ, and they have a good team....give them a 2nd all star. He should at least be part of the final vote.
  10. I think Drew Storen will be Washington's rep, not Jason Marquis. I wouldn't have a problem with Espinosa on the team, but it won't happen. So put Storen in for Marquis...if you want to keep the same starter/reliever balance put a starter in for K-Rod (probably Cliff Lee...?). I'd also put Craig Kimbrel on instead of Leo Nunez....relievers are kind of a crapshoot (is there really any way Bochy doesn't take Brian Wilson?). I think you nailed it with the position players though. I hope Freddy Sanchez doesn't make it, but I see what you're getting at. If you need someone to play third base, then Ryan Roberts should be the pick. But ultimately it will be Chipper. Kind of a lifetime achievement thing/he does have one of the best OPS for NL 3B (i think he only trails Roberts).
  11. Not that I agree with the decision to leave Loe in (I don't think anyone does)...all of those lefties he faced are switch hitters (Reyes, Beltran, and Pagan). Saying that he left Loe in to face 4 lefties makes it sound like RR is completely ignoring the possibility of a lefty-lefty matchup and makes him sound absolutely clueless. Bringing in Braddock to face a righty (or a switch hitter from the right side) isn't exactly a slam dunk either. It's also the Brewers 6th game in a 20 day stretch with no off days, so you do have to be a little cautious with the bullpen. Again, I don't agree with the decision to leave him in...just trying to point out why RR may have done so, and to point out that saying "Loe faced 4 lefties last night, RR is clueless" is a little bit off base.
  12. Ahhh, yes, Loe gets bailed out. Should have started this post with the clause "if the brewers go on to lose this game it will be Loe's 6th loss". Great work counsel Morgan Braun fielder. But is there a stat tracked "blown leads or blown holds" regardless of the games outcome? I believe blown saves is the stat you're looking for.
  13. I don't think Weeks will be able to catch Phillips, but it would be borderline criminal if he didn't make the team as a reserve. Still a lot of time, but he and Braun have to be locks. Prince could make it in behind Pujols and Votto, but I could see Gaby Sanchez taking his spot (as the only Marlin with Johnson hurt and Hanley being awful). I would love to see Lucroy make it and he might have a shot...but there's a surprising amount of talent in the NL at catcher even with Posey out. McCann's having a down year for him, but has still been very good for a catcher. Guys like Montero, Iannetta, and Hernandez are all having good years. And I hate the guy, but Yadier is hitting above .300 and still playing good D. Maybe they'll make the final man vote all catchers, and we can send Lucroy in.
  14. Bonds and Bagwell are two. can't come up with the third one.
  15. DFA ed sedar. Help us tony plush, youre our only hope.
  16. Don't think so. Two perfect throws and he was still safe. The odds of getting one run there are much greater than getting one before recording another out. he was out by three steps, but was lucky that ramos didn't handle the throw. It was a terrible decision to send him (how many guys score from first on a single?). I'm not complaining about the result, but boggs is probably out 7 or 8 times out of 10 there.
