As an aside about the payroll, after we traded for CC and were discussing the draft ramifications, there was a lot of chatter about the amount of money it would take to sign next year's draft picks. But with the utter decline of our picks (from CC now only netting us a 2, to Shouse maybe simply retiring), does that impact how much we'll spend? It was opined that our draft next year could cost us $7-9M, and even though we could simply still pay the rate of what our pick WOULD have been and take a guy who slides because of signability, we haven't really ruffled MLB's slotting feathers. Back to Dunn, he would be a significant upgrade offensively, but a serious declien defensively, unless you also move Prince off of first (which would seem to be a lateral move both ways). To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I think our outfield, the way it's currently constructed, is the least of our worries. Defensively, it's probably our best unit. And offensively, it houses 3 of the 5 best bats on the team. Bringing in Dunn won't do anything more than shake up a solid unit. That said, if we got Dunn, I don't see HOW a team is going to pitch to us. Five man rotation between: 1B (Fielder-Dunn) CF (Cameron-Hart) LF (Braun-Dunn) RF (Hart-Dunn) Injuries and fatigue are bound to set in. With that rotation (though Dunn-RF is something I don't think I would embrace with open arms), offensive worries are a thing of the past. And with no Yost, there would be no calls for "hitting his way out of a slump."
