  1. Great job, Jim. This was a really memorable season in the minors, and thanks to the Link Report, it's extremely easy to follow what happens. Thanks.
  2. I'd be fine with that rotation.
  3. If you're referring to me, I don't think I ever bashed him. I've been pretty consistent on my "watch, he's going to go nuts" line of thought. EDIT: I nominate Bobby Kielty as the platoon partner, once he is non-tendered.
  4. I can see the reasoning behind that, but do you really want to pay a guy $8mil to platoon? Sure, I don't think it'd be that crazy. Considering he'll be almost 33 on opening day, he's going to need more off days. If he went out and had a .900 OPS in 450 AB's, and played his typical defense, he's easily worth that $8 million. If they got a scrap-heap Eduardo Perez type guy for $500 K or something, it isn't that big of a deal to have $8.5 million tied up in one position. EDIT: He actually only makes $7 million next year, his salary goes down. mlbcontracts.blogspot.com...ewers.html
  5. Just building up the trade value....good job, Geoff! ...or hopefully (to me, anyhow) cementing his status as the starting RF against RHP for the Brewers until next July 31.
  6. They should have never benched him, just platooned him with Mench. I don't know how Yost didn't see that. From day one after Lee, it should have been Hart - Gross/Clark - Jenkins/Mench. It would have made Mench not look so terrible. EDIT: I honestly had no clue Nook Logan was still in baseball. Only Bowden.
  7. And Gwynn should be batting 8th. No, you need a contact hitter like Gwynn's last name up there. He only strikes out once every 5 AB's (between AAA and MLB this year). He's just like his dad!
  8. I'd doubt he'll pitch much more than a couple innnings in September. He's pretty close to a 30 IP increase from last season. They're not going to risk hurting him in meaningless games.
  9. I wouldn't call it fire, I'd call it poor judgement. Get it out of your system in the minor leagues, because free baserunners matter in MLB.
  10. that would have made shane nance about 4 foot 3 when he wasnt pitching Oddly, that seems just about right.
  11. Finally, someone else on BF.net that can share the Black Keys love. I had most of their stuff prior to this thread, but since have started giving them a more in-depth listen. The one I really love is the disc of Junior Kimbrough songs, "Chulahoma". I'd imagine that was the EP you were talking about. That's probably my favorite of all their stuff, even though it's all pretty good.
  12. Yeah, the "only five pitchers" thing is misleading, since there are so many guys that are listed at an even 6' that aren't. Oswalt, Hudson, Sheets, etc. aren't 6', but for some reason there is a stigma when a guy is listed below that height, or something. It's like football players who are 280 or something being listed at 300, because it's more intimidating or something.
  13. This just cements it for me. The Brewers need to find an ace in the offseason. Aces don't give up runs. Ever.
  14. Honestly, I love short pitchers. Maybe it's because of Hudson and Oswalt and others, but I just think they're cool.
  15. I bought the TV on the Radio disc today. I had already downloaded it quite a while back when it came out in England. It's pretty good. The one that likely catches me some flak is that I also bought John Mayer's "Continuum". I just think the guy is pretty good, he's a terrific guitar player, especially (he covers "Bold as Love", well). Also really good, but I expected it to be after reading quite a few positive reviews (aside from the smug and typically smarter than the room Pitchfork) and hearing the single. The new Yo La Tengo, "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass" is a nice album, too.
  16. They're September call-ups. Nelson Cruz barely played at all last year, and he was a better player than either of these two, by a mile.
  17. Well, with Sheets pitching, combined with facing Oswalt, the Brewers may score negative runs tonight.
  18. "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is definitely in my top five for the decade. So is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". The latter is in my top 10 ever (favorites, at least), for sure. "Adaptation" is in there for me. The thing with "25th Hour" is that there's nothing really going on. It's kind of listless. I know that's what happens with Spike Lee, at times (anyone watch the Requiem in Four parts, BTW? Excellent.). I'm a big fan of Spike, though, just not that movie. I like Norton. Like Cox. Like Dawson. Love P.S.H. Don't like the movie.
  19. I've got the Velvet Underground with Nico album, but thats about it on Reed...i could do more of him, but i sometimes need the pep of bowie...of course, i love me some new york dolls and iggy... Get Reed's "Transformer". Bowie produced it. My favorite VU album is the third, self-titled one. I like "Loaded" a lot, too - definitely the most accessible of their albums. You really can't go wrong with any of their stuff, "White Light White Heat" is great, too.
  20. You dig Lou Reed, pogo? Also, right on in regards to "Alternative to Love".
  21. I'd like to point out that, along with Toby's Eno recommendation, I really love Eno's work with Roxy Music (the self-titled album, as well as "For Your Pleasure"). In fact, I really enjoy about six Roxy Music albums, though the post-Eno releases are way less artsy or "glam", for the most part. Toby may or may not agree with me on that, because I get the feeling I like the "glam" more than he does.
  22. Nora-Jane Noone is in The Descent. I personally think she's the best actress there is right now. If you haven't yet, check out "The Magdalene Sisters". She's amazing in that flick, which is just altogether excellent. She also did a short a couple years ago called "News for the Church" that was really good. It was directed by Andrew McCarthy (the), actually. She's going to be a huge star. Punch Drunk Love... I didn't catch this review before. I totally dug that movie. The family is in the movie really for that one scene - which sets the stage for the entire film. I thought Sandler was terrific, probably the only time he ever has been. Just a great movie, the use of colors and the running score in particular was just terrific. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the best there is. If you were expecting to se Cayjawn Man, watch The Waterboy.
  23. Will Inman is starting for West Virginia today, and has been efficient What's new? I hope like hell he wins the ERA title, but the more remarkable thing than his ERA was the 100-ish IP that he went without giving up a HR. That's unreal.

  25. There are some questions that are answerable, and some that aren't. A well-known public figure put it best: As we know, There are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know There are known unknowns. That is to say We know there are some things We do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, The ones we don't know We don't know.
