  2. With a career full of comments like that, he's probably right...they are after him. He deserves what he gets. Just one of the truly bad people in the sport.
  3. Cuddyer may not be anything special, but if you throw the pitches Parra threw to him, they are going to get hit. Most of those meatballs would have been hit out of minor league parks. I don't need Macha to be a rah rah in your face guy, but he should have gotten tossed tonight. The players need to know he has their back too. The ball may have hit his hand, but it hit the knob too. Go back and listen to the sound from the game. It was a foul ball. The ump was wrong and so was Macha. I still like Macha and I think he's done a solid job so far, but this team needed a jolt tonight.
  4. Out pitched, out hit, out defensed, out managed and completely out classed. I hate that dump...except when the Badgers play there. Maybe we should have sent Alvarez up there to manage this series. Well Yo...this is where you need to be the ace. How about another 1-0 victory...since I have no faith we'll score anymore than that against Carpenter tomorrow. A 5-4 road trip never felt so crummy. Let's hit reset and take 2/3 from the Cards.
  5. This reminds me of the Red Sox series last year. They just seem lost. Hopefully they respond as well as they did after that last year.
  6. The defense behind Parra was pretty bad the other night which did not help but to be fair, that pitch to Cuddyer was right down the heart of the plate. He made some very bad pitches in that game.
  7. The bats will come around. I'm most worried about our defense. I've seen a continual pickup in misplays since Rickie's been out. Maybe they're just winded on this roadtrip. If this keeps up our starting pitching will wear down.
  8. Per JSOnline... BREWERS SS Craig Counsell 2B Casey McGehee LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Mike Cameron DH Mat Gamel 3B Bill Hall RF Jody Gerut C Jason Kendall RHP Braden Looper I'll bet nobody had this lineup a few weeks ago in their "Who will Ken start?" pool. C'mon Crew let's take that dump of a dome out in style!!! Here is the team averaging 15.5 runs per game in the last 48 hours... LF Denard Span C Joe Mauer 1B Justin Morneau RF Michael Cuddyer 3B Joe Crede DH Brain Buscher SS Brendan Harris CF Carlos Gomez 2B Matt Tolbert RHP Anthony Swarzak
  9. This is really solid evidence that the ownership, the counties that invested in MP and the fans all have something to be proud of. They've all stepped up and supported the team. It's showing up in the financials and it that has allowed the ownership to put a better product on the field. I agree with you guys, it hardly means we don't need a luxury tax. If anything it supports it. Despite all the Brewers have done more than any other team, their payroll will be about 40% of what the Yankees is. The Brewers will also be lucky to breakeven, the Yankees will be wildly profitable. The article must have been written by a Yankee fan.
  10. I think there is a real middle ground here on Manny. First off, he is not pitching up to his potential, but he's still our third best pitcher right now. Young guys are often inconsistent and it's part of the growing process. My guess is Manny will have plenty of good runs like his prior 3 games and ones like last night where he's throwing BP. If he doesn't wear down this year like he did last year, he could really get on track for the stretch run and maybe live up to those #2 expectations. Calls to remove him from the rotation are utterly ridiculous. However I don't think it's fair to completely dismiss the mental struggles that Manny seems to be going through and the letdowns he's had. From TH's story after last night's game: "This is the ugliest one of them all," said Parra, who has let negative emotions seep into his psyche in the past. "If there was ever a time to have amnesia it's right now. That's something I'm learning to do." When you consistently read things like this about Manny it's not like people are pulling this out of mid-air. Manny has admitted as much in the past that part of his struggles are mental. This is hardly unusual for a young athlete.
  11. No doubt...that's one guy I'd like to see brought back next year. Maybe they put DiFer in to get in their heads a little for tomorrow with that 82 MPH filth.
  12. Julio is our designated Paul Janish. The only reason he is on the team is for nights like this. In Milwaukee they serve brats, apparently in Minneapolis Manny serves Meatballs. What a horrendous outing. The only thing almost as bad was our defense. McGehee had me longing for Bill Hall even with the automatic 0-fer. Bad defense will really put some stress on this pitching staff if this keeps up.
  13. For all my inner hatred of the Vi-queens and Gophers...I can't muster up any angst against the Twinkies. They're kind of a likable team. They've never been in our division (I guess they were in the way early 70's) so I've never considered them a rival. I am a little jealous of the 2 WS Championships, but I was pulling for them at the time. That being said, I'll take at least 2/3 this weekend!!!
  14. Probably good for him if it's not his arm. This basically assures the Cubs of going after Peavy.
  15. I had it for a few years and just cancelled it. Olney's blog and the NFL Draft coverage are ok, but other than that not much. Not worth the price IMO. ESPN Magazine is garbage too.
  16. Take a deep breath everyone...Bill Hall will probably be at 3B in at least 2 games this series against all RHP. I'm hoping the Gamel fix at DH will calm the pitchforks a little. Let's hope Mat & Bil can shred the Dome one last time.
  17. "I saw you untuck'em after Tuesday's game...you are part of the same Brewers conspiracy that sent Cooper & Romero down here"
  18. "How dare you embarass me in front of Barbara Bush like that"
  19. JCREW posted this picture in the IGT of Berkman's meltdown last night...any guesses on what he was saying? I'll start... http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/e67363bb4b3fc0e7b835854680aec8e06f91f528.pjpg "Didn't you read the Richard Justice column...this team has no holes!!!"
  20. Hitting 35 HR in 2006 was the worst thing Billy could have done to himself. It may have been the worst thing for the Brewers, but since he parlayed that into a 4 year deal, I'm not sure he'd agree.
  21. That was great to see TGJ get that ovation and get to score that run last night in SD. Great trade for us...and a great story for Tony. Great point too liveforoctober...TGJ's solid play down in Nashville made this trade possible. As for a Hart platoon...not a chance. One spot start per week max (every other week between Cam & Hart to keep them fresh) with a better bat off the bench. Let's not get carried away with the platoon stuff here. Corey will be just fine.
  22. The Bill Hall meltdown was a little much on the IGT thread tonight. The guy has done a solid job at 3B defensively. That has been a big part of the Brewers improved play this year and the ancillary effect on our pitching staff cannot be discounted. That being said, he is not our best option vs. RHP. I don't fault Macha for giving him a shot, including this week. I would also caution that Gamel may still be a liability at 3B and historically Counsell is not that big of an upgrade vs. RHP. Hall does need a blow and Gamel does deserve a chance, but I will cringe if Hall starts getting booed at Miller Park again. Hall is not as bad even against RHP as he has been in the last 2 games. Over a season he might OPS at .700. Not great, but if he's above average defensively it's not a complete disaster. Especially with a staff full of pitch to contact pitchers.
  23. Awesome...what a comeback by the Crew...and what a meltdown by the Astros.
