  1. I'm with the consensus on this one. This is a great day for the future of the Brewers. Hopefully this will be the model of how they lock up some of the other young stars. I really hope this gets Prince over the edge. He has a couple more years of service and gets the arby money next year, not to mention Boras...it will be tougher, but the model is there. It could be 5-6 years and more money, but I think it's worth it. C'mon Prince...get the dough and open up a vegan restaurant in Milwaukee!!! Hummous and egg plant for everyone!!! The no-trade clause just gives Braun leverage on a new deal if and when he ever gets traded. The longer we can keep Braun, Prince and the rest of these guys in the lineup, the longer our competitive window will be open. It gives us time to get some pitching to match that lineup. I love it...THANK YOU MARK A & Team Canada...AWESOME!!!
  2. I have no idea where I'm sitting...somewhere 1st base side down below. It's with a buddy who splits seasons for the Sox. I will however be in my retro Yount jersey...you can't miss the powder blue...or the obnoxious idiot that will be wearing it!!! I hope to see all of you congregating down by the Brewers dugout after Gagne' strikes out the side to end the game!!! GO BREWERS!!!
  3. Braun is feelin' it!!! C'mon Prince, join the party!!!
  4. Brewers website now showing Sheets on Thursday vs. Dodgers. The right thing to do if he's healthy, although I'm bummed because I'll be at Fenway on Friday. Dice K vs. Dave Bush...hardly seems fair does it?
  5. Realistically, we are only 3 games off the pace at most. Even if the Cards are for real, they won't keep this pace. The winner of the division will have a percentage in line with where the Cubs are now at best. We are 3 back of them and we've been through a tougher period of our schedule. That being said, if they don't get going soon, they really will be in a big hole.
  6. No doubt. Whether you like Ned or not, he doesn't come close to the gross incompetence of those two. Lopes especially was just brutal. Even the naysayers would have to acknowledge Ned was fairly successful early in his tenure with far less talent. The question now is whether he is the right guy to take us to the next level now that we have talent. Personally, I have no opinion at this point other than DM is the right person to make the call based on what he sees on the field and in the clubhouse. I agree with the consensus, the next 8-10 games will be huge. They are playing for his job. They need to show a pulse or he's gone.
  7. First time in a while that their pitcher left before ours
  8. How could the baseball gods have wasted not one, but two World Championships on this franchise. One for each fan?
  9. Interesting point you made...take players who demand more than slot value and drop. This might be where the "value" is in the draft. Overpaying for a couple younger guys is not something that would cripple the franchise like a "Zito-esque" contract. Some of these college guys might make it to the big club sooner than some in the past, making them overall values since they'd still be cheap their first 6 years. The other side of the argument is the 2005 draft was such an anomaly that clubs shouldn't expect the type of fast track success that group had in the future.
  10. It strikes me how darn snakebit we've been with starting pitching over the years. Ever since Teddy Higuera won 20 games and got the big contract, we've been cursed. We've had great prospects too, some have had great years. Juan Nieves was a huge get as a young free agent phenom. Cal Eldred was awesome when he first came up and burned out way too early. How about Jeff D'Amico? Now it's Ben Sheets who dazzles one day and pulls a muscle the next. Or YoGo, our best pitching prospect in years who tears an ACL on a freak play. WE ARE CURSED!!! I feel bad for the 6 college pitchers we are about to take in the first couple rounds next month.
  11. I would concur on the similarities between '82 & '08 Brewers...other than they play baseball in Milwaukee and live and die with the long ball, there really aren't any. Our core group are all a few years younger than Yount and Molitor were that year, and they were the young guys. A guy like Buck Rogers had success with younger players, it was with vets he fell on deaf ears. The one similarity could be that the '82 team played tight and there were internal conflicts in the clubhouse between the manager and the team. Rogers lost them. I have yet to see that evidence here with Yost (not that I would neccessarily be in that position). I think the reason they kept him this year was its a fragile group of young, talented and developing players with good chemistry between themselves and the manager. The biggest question is how long that lasts with the team sputtering. Melvin is in the best position to make that judgment and if a change is indeed needed, he should make that call.
  12. Rockies Win!!! Maybe the Crew will bottom out at 5.5 behind...we're 5 back and climbing!!!
  13. DM is nowhere near the hot seat...Ned (rightly or wrongly) is right on it. It is funny that the fire-Ned contingent was on the warpath last year, but there hasn't been much to point to this year. When your starters can't go 5, your sluggers don't hit and your $10M closer can't close...he hasn't even had the chance to really blow anything. It's more the general frustration with performance. Rightly or wrongly, sometimes a change needs to be made. I thought the comments of frustration by Ryan Braun the other day were very telling. It was the first sign I have really noticed of some clubhouse discontent with the recent production. That's why I'm starting to think this happens. DM & MA won't let this thing bleed with all of those tickets sold for this summer.
  14. That's the first sportswriter that ever made me cry. I give.
  15. I don't think he lasts. Expectations are high and performance is low. At some point, they just make a change to make a change. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I personally can't even blame him for what's going on.
  16. Rickie Weeks Sr, for manager. He seems more intelligent than our current manager with a lot less attitude. Plus, if Rickie bombs that way with him in attendance...I'll take it!!!
  17. Dangit...I thought we might need the Verlander-like No-hitter to truly bottom out and get a little streak going.
  18. Maybe these guys should come to fantasy camp next year...so the campers that pitch can feel good about themselves.
  19. Since the Brewers pitchers seem to be money the first time through the lineup...how about a 15 pitcher staff. 3 pitchers at 3 innings per game.
