    Would you say that bats bring back more return for trades than gloves? He's picking up guys with warts. You can hide a below average glove sometimes, but you can't hide a bad bat.

    Bombers - well said and good job doing some digging to back it up. It's definitely a numbers game. I think it's all about taking risks on young players at this time.

    That's awesome! Yes, always the clubs that are holding any good golfer back. Ha. Yes, we've been pretty fortunate to have little snow in Cincinnati this year so far. I'm hoping it stays that way.

    Unfortunately, this IS the reality for teams like the Brewers or the Rays. However, the Rays had a stretch of five 90 win seasons in six years. They have more good young talent coming up. You have to be good, or even excellent at drafting. You have to be completely unflinchingly unafraid to trade away talent when it's at the end of it's 6 year team-controlled cycle, and get good young talent back in return. Talent in/talent out. The Rays had Matt Garza at his peak. Instead of re-signing him to a big deal, they traded him to the Cubs for Chris Archer. When Chris Archer is close to big bucks, they'll probably flip him for young talent as well. To operate that way, you absolutely HAVE to be good at identifying that kind of talent, and not having the sentimental attachment to the players on your roster. Is Stearns that kind of guy? We don't know yet. He appears to have NO trouble getting rid of guys, but then he has no attachment to any of the guys currently on the roster. Can he identify talent? We will find out. Well said! That's the way I feel and you did a better a job of saying it! Talent out, talent in is how we have to live. The Twins were so good at that and got caught in an impossible corner.....home town kid, Joe Mauer. I think that's what set them back several years. If he wasn't a home town kid, he would have been gone for some amazing prospects.

    I agree this team was competitive for several years, and I'm so thankful for that. Great years! Wouldn't you say the writing was on the wall though? I mean we couldn't have waited much longer to sell off our best players. Our farm system was so depleted, we could have never kept this up. We could have maybe made the playoffs a few more times but I just didn't see the talent in the system that could have made us a legit contender. I think it would have been a slow painful death and then we would have had to push out the time frame of being good (edit: not a given that we will be, but we have a good chance), several more years. We wouldn't have had the trade chips to reload the organization with prospects.

    I'm on the side of not rushing this as well. I'd rather shoot for 2019. Take our time bringing up prospects. Try to bring them up as close as possible so that they are together for a longer period of time. I like seeing that we have a couple groups of players developing. That way they can plug holes and give a boost to what is hopefully a good team, a few years later. I really hope that Mark gives Sterns a long leash with this. I hope the fans are patient. I think this could be really special if he does a good job of executing his plan. We are a small market team and I truly believe this is the only way we can succeed. I always look at what the Twins did before the recent slide. They had a great string of prospects and continued to fill their farm system by trading good players before they walked for more money. Their only fault was not ever really "going for it." That said, I think you have to treat your prospects like gold. I do think DM did cut some corners and I'm ok with that. I'm hoping this approach creates above average baseball, with chances to make the playoffs, for an extended period of time, and never has to fully reboot.

    I thought I better get this thread started! The season is fast approaching, and the PGA is underway. I hit my first bucket of balls of the New Year yesterday.....so I got that going for me....which is nice. Anyone getting any new toys for their golf bag this spring? I needed to upgrade my whole bag, so I've just been trying to take care of one thing each year. Did driver two years ago and irons last year. I still need wedges, faraway woods, and a hybrid......maybe a putter too. Debating what is most important to get next and having a hard time. Either way, I'm excited to get out on the course.

    Thanks Hawing! Feeling much better now. I just took my lights down Saturday! Actually kept the lights on the deck in the back on for the summer.

    I too am on board for supporting this trade. I'm really enjoying David's approach to the organization. It needed a reboot and he's giving it that. Of course the big question is, will some of these prospects turn out? We don't know, but he's at least giving us a shot to have high end prospects in a few years. I didn't think I'd have much excitement going in to this season, but he's changed that thought. I can't wait to see how the organization develops over the coming years.

    I too have been wanting the ball and glove with the current color scheme, so this is a good start. I do like the old colors the best, but if we are just looking for an alternate, this is a great look. I think I would prefer the current gold though. I think the Brewers current uniforms are sharp but underwhelming. I prefer team's more cartoonish logos from the past (in all sports) to the more professional/sharper looks they go with now. I'm really glad the gold jerseys are gone. To me, they looked like bar league softball teams.

    I had to put my 12 year old dog down last week because of cancer. He was my first dog. Way tougher than I ever thought it would be but finally starting to be able to laugh and smile about memories I have with him. I'm going to miss him a lot.

    I was talking about the pullover one, but that one is really nice too. I'd take either at this point. I love them both! And yes, I am talking about grey, not powder blue, I have one of those. I wrote to the Brewers Pro Shop and got a response that they'd take it in to consideration. Which means nothing probably, but it was nice not to get an auto email reply. If everyone on here writes in, we can probably get a little traction!!! Link this thread, whoever does it next!! Once we get the jersey in the pro shop, we can move on to designing their next uniform with a combo of this jersey and our new color scheme.

    I think sports is the one exception, where big advertising dollars are still spent on commercial breaks because most people still watch sports live. I DVR everything else, but I have a hard time doing it with sports because I like to be in the moment. I get what you are saying though, that's why advertisers are doing everything they can to add product drops in shows or intros. Same with sporting events. Every replay, double play, home run etc is brought to you by..... My point was just saying that the reason they don't allow in market streaming right now is a combo of cable companies paying so much for tv rights and them being able to recoup that money by advertisement dollars and subscriptions. If they still show the commercials for in market streamers, and maybe charge them a bit more, I think it solves most of the problem that MLB is saying they have (if they still use the MLB streaming app with commercials in and a different subscription price for in market vs out of market).

    Agreed. But i'm saying that they just show the commercials on the "in market" feeds and allow those people to have a separate streaming plan with MLB. Instead of trying to have the regional stations figure out their own streaming, just run it through mlb.tv. Maybe it costs a little more so that the regionals get what they want and don't lose out on advertising dollars from the local market.

    I thought Block was good at times, but yes, very dull. I've always supported him because I thought he became much better when paired with someone. The way the Brewers do things now, he was on his own too often, which made for very dull innings. Bring back Provus!

    Ok, I know MLB wants to make sure all the regional sports offer a similar product before they allow in market fans to purchase streaming options of their teams. To me the problem is that when you stream games out of market now, they don't show the commercials. Regional sports channels pay a lot of money to broadcast a team's games. They get that money back by getting advertising, and a lot of that is local. Wouldn't MLB solve the problem if they just showed the commercials? Then came up with a payment option that gave the needed amount to the regional sports channel and kept what they needed?

    I too really like the strategy involved with pitchers batting but I guess I have to say that it's better for the game if they don't. Having both league's the same is important. I also think it's better for pitchers in general, because they won't be forced out earlier in a game when they are pitching well. The DH just seems lazy and easy....set it and forget it, but I guess overall it is probably better.

    Patrickgpe - that's a great way to put it. Looking for good individual performances. I too want to see who is going to take a step forward and who is taking a step backwards. I'm also interested to see how players react if the team is playing terrible. This is a time on a team that true leaders rise up. I can't wait to see who that will be. I've never paid much attention to the minor leagues (box scores, etc) but I think you are right Fondy, I think that will be visited a ton. MLB trade rumors will be visited a lot by me as well! I hope we can continue to get prospects that will be ready in a few years and hopefully build something special.

    Too soon (but funny)???? This surprised me when I heard the news. I didn't know he was sick prior to yesterday. I know he came across as a pretty big jerk, but all that said, he was a big part of an iconic band. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but they made great music for sure.

    Sorry if this has been discussed a lot before on here. Maybe a better question is, what do we have to do to get this jersey available from the pro shop? I'm not sure where it sits with the general public, or with the posters on this board, but it's one of my favorites. I know there was a few comments on this jersey with in the last few years but couldn't find it so wanted to start an actual thread.
