  1. There is no reason to play rookies every single game of the season they almost always just wear down when you do it and most managers in baseball protect them against bad matchups. Macha really isn't doing anything wrong here.
  2. This sounds like a pretty large case of hindsight being 20/20 here. Cruz took until his age 27 season to do anything and the major part of the deal which was Lee for Cordero did make sense, De La Rosa took multiple years and multiple organizations to do anything. Hardy hasn't really shown that we sold low on him yet, he is being every bit as bad as last year. Same with Hall who has been terrible since we got rid of him. The Suppan and Gagne deals were clearly bad though, I'll give you that much.
  3. Sheets with another bad outing today. After 3 innings his ERA is up to 6.30 on the year and he has more BB than K. Are we still upset we didn't sign him? Davis has been bad but at least most of it seems to be bad luck with singles, Davis is the unluckiest pitcher in baseball on the season according to ERA-xFIP.
  4. I would have done backflips if we could have had Liriano instead of Gomez, there is no reason at all to think he was done. I would have been extremely surprised if it didn't take a lot more than Hardy to get Liriano though. However I don't think the Twins should sign him long term either. I highly doubt he stays healthy over the next 3 seasons. Get as many innings out of his arm as you can and then trade him before he reaches free agency.
  5. Obviously your win-loss record from April counts as much as any other month but I don't even consider baseball to begin until May 1st. I have played fantasy baseball a long time and one thing it has taught me is to pretty much throw April out the window. Baseball is a streaky game by nature but April and September are even streakier than the rest of the season which makes a lot of sense. In April a lot of hitters don't have their timing down yet and a lot of pitchers don't have good control yet, in September you see a lot of rookie callups which changes the dynamic of the game quite a bit.
  6. A lot of people think Toronto lost that deal because of how good League is, I think you are downplaying what it would take to get Morrow a bit here. I'd personally rather just throw Parra in the rotation all year and see if he sticks than trade for Morrow. They both have upside and both could be disasters.
  7. He is either going to locate his pitches or he is going to get hit around. There is no way to know which will happen. I don't think he suddenly lost it because of age though since his velocity is completely normal.
  8. 13-15 5+9+3=17
  9. Garner was horrible so I can't answer your question. Baseball managers are bad in general because they hire them for the wrong reasons. Playing baseball does not naturally make you a good manager.
  10. I am dumbfounded how anyone can hate the Indians logo that much but then again being PC seems to outweigh being sensible these days so it shouldn't bother me.
  11. Just curious if you are watching the game because complaining about the pitching staff after this game makes no sense. I mean if you are following the box score i get it at least, if you are watching the game and think this is more than bad luck I just don't get it. Complain about the previous games sure, but not this one.
  12. And maybe 4 of them were hit hard, the rest just found the hole. This is the biggest joke of a game I've seen in my 20 years of watching baseball every day. To the guy who said this is like last year, that isn't true at all. Last year was BB and HR and a lot of hard hit balls, this game has just been a joke with every weak hit ball finding the perfect spot to get a single.
  13. This game is an extremely good example why ERA is such a useless stat over a small sample. Davis has given up a bunch of groundballs and flares that found holes and could just as easily have a 0-0 game here as 4-0. He hasn't done anything wrong at all but every ball that has been put in play found a hole. Meanwhile some other pitcher in baseball probably got completely tattooed all night but they were right at guys and ended up with a 'good game'.
  14. I figured we'd be just a tiny bit over .500 at end of month, if Hoffman pitches like he should that is about where we would be. Annoyed at the start sure, demoralized not so much.
  15. Well he threw the changeup today and blew a save. Not liking the fact he bounced 2 of his first 2 changeups in front of the plate and the next one was hit out. That looks much more fishy than just getting some fastballs hit hard. edit: make that 4 bounced in front of the plate in the first 2 hitters.
  16. Old farts with no velocity live and die by their location, his just hasn't been good with his location so far. I doubt it is an injury.
  17. Hoffman has to locate better than that to be successful.
  18. When you describe someone as a 4.75-5.25 pitcher you are talking his true talent level, that is very different than a small sample of results. When you are looking at ERA the stat itself it doesn't become significant until something like 500 IP. In fact over a 200 IP sample you would be better off knowing absolutely nothing except K/9 than knowing nothing but his ERA over that sample, that is just how meaningless the stat is over a small sample. Randy Wolf is most likely a 4.00-4.50 ERA true talent pitcher, doesnt' mean he can't have an ERA of 5 or an ERA of 3.50 this year. This isn't some crazy concept made to defend Suppan, it is just using stats that make a little sense over smaller samples.
  19. Every year there is someone hyped this much, last year it was Wieters.
  20. You would be hard pressed to find someone that would bet on ERA since it is borderline random with a pitcher like Suppan who puts a lot on base and doesn't K much. His xFIP is still under 5.25 though.
  21. There are plenty of reasons to doubt Macha as the Brewer's manager, this most assuredly is not one of them. This is one of those throwback concepts that doesn't help a team in any way.
  22. I could see the Orioles go after him. That would match up well with all their young pitching starting to hit their stride. They also have a lot of good hitters but no big stud power guy.
  23. This is going to cause problems at the end of the season probably because Narveson should not pitch 190 innings and if he is healthy all year he's going to be on pace for that. They probably should have gone with Parra or let Suppan start 2-3 more games first.
  24. Having watched the Cubs series this weekend, maybe I'd take off the rest of this year to fix revenues some~.
