  1. Very confused how you can compare that game by Wolf to Looper from last year. The others are overreactions but at least they made a little sense.
  2. I never considered Mench a major part of that deal, he was a throw in. The center piece was Cordero for Lee. The rest was filler though we lost out on the filler.
  3. 12-11 tiebreaker 17. edit: changed my tiebreaker form 16 to 17 as I noticed I picked the same exact thing as someone else.
  4. The timing of Suppan's DL stint last year was just terrible, we were already short handed when he went to the DL. Really baffling why people would think last years was fake. This year may be but I wouldn't jump to conclusions about it, if they did an MRI it is unlikely to be fake because that leads a paper trail that can prove it was fake.
  5. Robertson might be an upgrade over Suppan but it wouldn't be by much. He was never a good pitcher and has been hurt the past 2 seasons.
  6. Have you seen the MRI from last year?Have you? I mean you are assuming they lied about him getting an MRI which includes physical evidence that could easily show the league they were lying about the injury and all because you don't like the guy. Saying a guy has a sore whatever is one thing, saying he went and got an MRI and the results of the MRI showed x or y is very different. It is highly unlikely they lied in that case.
  7. I guess they faked the MRI last year too~ This one might actually be a made up injury given the timing and the roster crunch but the past 2 years were not.
  8. Or not. According to baseball-reference.com the Brewers have exceeded their Pythagorean record by a combined 5 games over the last 3 years: 2007: 83-79 (actual) 83-79 (Pythagorean) 0 change 2008: 90-72 (actual) 87-75 (Pythagorean) +32009: 80-82 (actual) 78-84 (Pythagorean) +2 So the Brewers have been somewhat lucky, but not nearly as much as you indicated in your post. On to my prediction: Being an optimist, I say the Brewers go 92-70 and make a deep run in the playoffs. And those pythagorean records are almost always flawed in the first place so unless you are beating it by like 5+ games it doesn't mean much.
  9. It counts all pitchers as one slot, so if you hit the pitcher 8th it is a different lineup but if you switch to a different pitcher it isn't. Very few teams use less than 90 different lineups in a season, it is almost always 100+ when I look.
  10. Most teams use like 100 different batting orders throughout the season, it is never settled~. As an example the Yankees used 106 different lineups in 2009 and never used the same lineup more than 15 times and that is a veteran team. The Brewers used 109 different orders last year and the most they used the same lineup was 8 games.
  11. 3 hits and a BB given up in the first inning and they score 1 run. That is so Doug Davis like, heh.
  12. I still think that quote is completely taken out of context and doesn't mean what the reporters are insinuating it does. That is nothing new obviously, reporters as well as fans do that kind of thing constantly.
  13. Just curious if this is serious or if it is just one of those I'm going to be negative to force a positive projections, because it is really hard to lose 66 games if you have even 2 good players on your team. The Brewers do not have one of the worst 2 or 3 teams in baseball unless they are killed by injuries.
  14. Narveson isn't likely to be able to go 200 IP even if he were put in the 5th spot so it just makes sense to start him in the bullpen and limit his innings early in the season.
  15. Sorry, pet peeve of mine when people start bragging about guessing a single team's win totals correctly like it means something~. Fun is fine as long as people remember that is all it is. Anyway, like I said I'm guessing 85.
  16. Suppan was never going to earn that deal because he was never a good pitcher. Stick him in a pitchers park with a good defense behind him and he was a 4.25 ERA pitcher in his prime. Add some minor injuries, a few more years, a hitters park and a mediocre defense to that and you get what he gave us.
  17. I'll just add if I had to project the Brewers I'd probably go more like 81 games but since this is a prediction thread which basically means just make a wild guess, I'll stick with 85. So if I get it right I won't be patting myself on the back since it is basically meaningless since 1 years worth of data is basically random, they could easily win 75 games or 90 games with the same talent on the team just based on randomness.
  18. I agree bobskube. Gomez at least gives you good defense on a nightly basis, Hart is either hitting or he is useless.
  19. That is a pretty big downgrade given how terrible of a fielder he is at this point and he isn't necessarily even a better hitter.
  20. I'll go with 85 wins and whether we make the playoffs or not depends on the Cardinals big 4. They are about the biggest stars and scrubs team out there since that rotation is terrible without Carpenter or Wainwright and the lineup isn't good outside of Pujols and Holliday. I think the wild card comes from the NL East so it is division or bust.
  21. Seems like just a guess by TH more than anything though. Just doesn't seem likely they would move Parra's start the way they did and keep stretching Bush out if they were going to just dump him into the bullpen. Really feels like Parra and Suppan are fighting for the 5th spot from what Macha has actually said and done.
  22. Since he had 5 RBI today I bet it isn't him or at least if it was him they won't go ahead and make the move today.
  23. Brewers CFs had a .329 OBP last season. I think a combo of Gomez and Edmonds could plausibly match that. If he can combine last years BB rate with 2008s BABIP and add in a little bit of weaker pitching in the NL than in the AL and something like a .315 OBP is certainly doable by him. Sure his career OBP is still nasty but he did show a lot of growth in his peripherals last year even if they didn't show up in his slash stats. There is still a substantial loss of power of course.
  24. I still get the feeling that Mark A strongly pushed for the Suppan signing. That is the one that has been the real killer. Yeah the Hall deal turned out bad but it is very comparable to what other teams have done with young players. I think Melvin spends too much on the bullpen and back end of the rotatino but that is partially because Jack Z failed at drafting pitching for the team, he still could have gone cheaper for basically the same results though.
  25. Twins don't play in a small market, their payroll has been limited by a bad stadium deal. Also the owner still does decide how much of the revenue goes back into the team so it does matter somewhat.
