  1. None of the teams between the Brewers and the wild card are hands down better than this team. If we can have a strong week this week we can actually climb above two of them at least. I think the WC is a pretty big long shot, but I think we are close enough to keep it in the back of our heads. Our RS vs RA is better than everyone except Houston's. Our pitching staff should actually get better with the bullpen changes that have been made. Our hitting has still yet to fire on all cylinders yet, we've had hot players at times but we've always offset it with someone equally cold. If Jenkins and Hardy keep a good pace of production and Lee and Weeks heat up this offense will continue to improve. We rank 6th in team OBP and 6th in team SLG leading to 8th in OPS. We rank 7th in OPS against and 6th in ERA against. Florida is the only team in the wild card race that actually beats us with pitching and hitting. This team has played at a wild card level so far this year and I don't think its just a fluke from players being hot. With a little luck and a couple guys stepping up we could be right in the wild card race at the end of the year.
  2. I'd rather we were in the AL, Yost doesnt' do a great job managing the bench imo, we'd have a spot for Fielder and our pitchers are terrible hitters. While I appreciate the argument that the NL takes more strategy and is how baseball is meant to be played. As a fan I don't find anything exciting about watching players that are poor hitters bat and watching rally's die with some .085 hitting pitcher. That isn't good baseball to me. I'll take the AL please.
  3. You make it sound so simple. They haven't even come up with a permanent agreement to keep the interleague play they already have. Its not like Selig can just snap his fingers and have an interleague game every day.
  4. Its the only way the schedule works out, can't have an odd number of teams in a league.
  5. ~30% of all starters end up on the DL every year, to say its simply because of pitch counts is being a bit too simplistic. I will say this, I do not like pitchers who aren't used to going over 100 pitches to pitch 120+. They simply have not built up the arm strength to do it. I could see the case where Prior's injuries are due to pitch counts since they worked him like a horse when he was so young and not used to it.
  6. He benched Overbay because he was completely lost against lefties earlier this year, had nothing to do with the stats. They have apparently worked on it and he's staying on the ball better. Scoring runs early is fun, we should have done it more the last 12 years.
  7. Its so nice looking at the lineup and seeing almost everyone hitting .270+, sure wish Lee would get hot.
  8. JDLR + DUNN = walk or K. I think it would have been the right move. Most likely he comes in, walks Dunn who has great plate discipline but takes a lot of close call 3rd strikes and we go to someone else for Pena.
  9. Come on wild pitch to score runner, probably more likely than a hit!
  10. Larue almost has an .800 OPS which is not bad at all for a C and Kearns is one of the biggest prospects in the game who has only failed because of injuries... plus that was a 328 foot HR, sometimes they just get lucky. As for Hudson, he hasn't pitched well at all today, we've just managed to not score much given ample opportunities.
  11. A) OPS is a guildline, not a hard rule B) OPS Is flawed, it favors SLG too much C) Branyan batting 4th would not bother me except I prefer to have the top 5 of the order not change on a daily basis. He's hitting for higher average than lee, walks more and has as much power.
  12. Brewers are 19-18 since Weeks came up but part of that is because we lost 5 of the first 6 games after he came up.
  13. Its much harder to pitch in Coors. The biggest challenge is that balls break differently than they do in other places so you don't get the movement you expect no your pitches.
  14. I did a search on it and came up with multiple news stories about Derrick Turnbow Avenue so he isn't just joking. I could not find anything listing where the streets name came from though.
  15. Really hard to score runs when we consistantly only get 2 outs per inning because of "small ball" early in the game.
  16. I don't like sac bunts in general, I especially don't like them with 1 out and down by 4. I just don't get it.
  17. I don't know, I consider santos our 5th pitcher and weakest link of the starters, I think with Ben, Doug and Chris coming up we have a decent shot at 2 wins.
  18. Hard hit ball, good defensive play... can't really knock Hall for that. Of course I do believe Hall is headed for a 750 OPS, I think he was just a guy on a hot streak.
  19. 819 OPS on the year for jenkins now.
  20. Good pitching, great defense and the fact that Rolen, Sanders and Molina are all sitting.
  21. Jenkins OPS is at .804 right now and its 1157 for the month of July.
  22. Drese is a below average pitcher who went from a big hitter's park to a big pitchers park. Ohka is an average pitcher, I'll take Ohka over Drese.
  23. I have no problem with bunts in some situations, but you need high average contact hitters up to make sure you get in that run and this year Overbay, Lee, Jenkins are not that. Its not playing the odds using weeks to bunt clark over.
  24. I wouldn't mind all the sac bunts if our team had a good batting average and didn't K much. But the truth is we have one of the lowest batting averages in baseball, we are one of the highest strikeout teams in baseball and we generate our league average OPS via walks and SLG. This team should probably be relying on the RBI double and 2 run HR, not the sac bunt.
