  1. My friend in the Keys has been boarded up all weekend. They were told they'd be closed Monday and Tuesday by Friday afternoon.
  2. And Rivera rocking the mockable Affliction tee...
  3. Nicolet High School Knights - Columbia Blue and White http://www.nicolet.k12.wi.us/_i/global/nicTopLftLogo.gif Being the North Shore, we were awful at things like football and spectacular at things like Tennis (and other Country Club sports). Famous Alumni include Kato Kaelin, Oprah, current Olympian Garret Weber-Gale, Badger manager turned super-sub Taylor Bronson, BJ Tucker, a member of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, former Huntsville Star Anthony Wycklendt and former MLB'r Lance Painter
  4. I don't want to completely flip this discussion, but I feel like this is the point that gets ignored about Ned Yost. I would even argue that Tom H's handling of this situation is not that different from how Ned handles press conferences. And a lot of people have said it doesn't bother them that Ned is like that. It seems like a double-standard. Why is it ok for Ned, but not for Tom H?
  5. The news ticker thing on JSOnline.com just put a tidbit up saying that the info was released today and the magic number is September 5th. THURSDAY, Aug. 14, 2008, 11:04 a.m. By Don Walker Brewers release playoff ticket details The Milwaukee Brewers have high hopes for making the playoffs this season, and fans who hold season-ticket packages will be getting more information in the mail in the days ahead. The key date for season-ticket holders is Sept. 5. That will be the date you have to commit to buying any kind of playoff ticket package. Fans who have a 20-game ticket package will have the option of purchasing a full strip of tickets that gives them a ticket to every home game for the divisional series, the League Championship and, perhaps, the World Series. Or they can choose to purchase one game for each round of the playoffs. Rick Schlesinger, the team's executive vice president for business operations, said he expected most 20-game holders would opt for the full slate of games. Fans with 9-game ticket packages will receive a mailing at a later date. For those fans, they will be allowed to purchase one ticket for each of the first two rounds of the playoffs, but not for the World Series. As the team did last year, a lottery will be held in which fans who do not have a season-ticket package can try to win the right to buy a ticket for a postseason game. Last year, more than 100,000 people entered the lottery, and Schlesinger said he anticipated more people would enter this season. The Brewers, meanwhile, have six more home games this month, and all signs point to more sellouts. Tickets are available for the games, which will be Aug. 18-20 against the Houston Astros and Aug. 22-24 against the Pittsburgh Pirates
  6. I may have posted this in the past, but it's relevant to the conversation, so I'm bringing it back. In April, Costas was in town filming a segment and spent an inning in the booth with Bill and Brian and he said this about Selig: "I'm pretty sure that my friend Bud Selig is watching the game back in Milwaukee as he kind of makes his trip around the satellite dish and watches all the games but maybe with a special bit of attention toward the Brewers. Baseball does not need a new commissioner. There were times in the past when I was critical of Bud - although I always valued his friendship. But I think on balance, while there will be questions about certain things and legitimate criticisms, on balance if you look at his tenure, his tenure has been a successful one and in many ways a revolutionary one. Because there have been changes, not all of which I've agreed with, but changes under his leadership that he has spearheaded and he deserves credit for a lot of that. ... And if in fact, he was slow on the steroid issue and if the game was slow, he certainly is trying to make up for it now. He's certainly trying to be as proactive as he can be now."
  7. Men's soccer team lost to Nigeria - out of the medals again...
  8. That other guy is Klement's executive chef and it took the 2 of them to make a "Brat Bath." They acted like it was an ingenious idea, as though people in Wisconsin haven't been boiling their brats in beer forever....
  9. I have a Hart pinstripe I won in a raffle at On Deck, so I guess they all come that way.
  10. Is this guy pitching that well or are we just swinging at crap?
  11. Rickie's always been like that, though. When he does get all of it, they fly. It's crazy the power you see in his homers when it's not at all apparent elsewhere in his hitting.
  12. Let's hope this is a "Welcome Back, Rickie" sort of game.
  13. You could hear people in my neighborhood cheer when the US won that 4x100. Unbelievable and SO much fun to watch.
  14. Got to Elm Grove a little after 8 and there was one line. When the Brewers staff started putting up the names, inexplicably the people in the front of the line felt the need to move the 3 feet to the left in order to be directly in front of the white sign. This led to some confusion and the line splintered and shuffled because people pushed forward. When this happened, a staffer came over, made some executive decisions and made one line, so that was good. Left the bf in the CC line and went over to be first in the Weeks line. Got his and then we got in for CC with about 10 mins to go.
  15. I think we need just need a point - a win or a tie will do.
  16. Since I just let one shameful secret out of the bag in the name meaning thread, I'll dump another one here. It's a big day! I write the Sports Blog on the Shepherd Express website. I also write cutesports.blogspot.com , which for most intents and purposes is the same as the Shepherd Blog. I just double post most of the time. If anyone ever reads it, you'll see lots of information that can be directly traced back here. You all are a great source of information! Thanks
  17. Moderately embarrassing admission time: Hi, my name is Nicole, and I'm a sorority girl! My shameful secret here. Don't judge! It's funny because it's a complete role reversal. Instead of being on the DL about being a Tomboy Sorority Girl, I'm on the DL about being a Sorority Girl Tomboy! The name's been with me since freshman year of college and I use it for everything. So TriStar is a symbol of my sorority and scoop because I was a Journalism Major.
  18. There's a market in Cork - it's open air, but there's like a roof on it - so not indoor, not outdoor - and we ate better there than I have anywhere else in the world. From there we walked to St. Fin Barre's Cathedral, which was awesome. There's just so much packed into such a small area there.
  19. I lived in New Orleans for 6 years - it's great for so many more things than Bourbon Street and getting wasted. Travel outside the city - the nearby Cajun Country is like another world. The plantations on River Road are SO cool. The Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula is like an hour away and a great time. The eating in New Orleans is better than ANYWHERE I've been. The DDay Museum is spectacular. I'm not a "sit still, do nothing" vacation person, so I'm a big fan of places that have "stuff" to do. We spent 10 days in Ireland, driving almost the whole country and it was breathtaking and fun and just the best time I've ever spent. I'll second the Galway suggestion. There's a place just outside Dublin called Glendalough that's a 6th century monastic settlement that is nestled in the Wicklow Mtns - indescribable. There's a nearby site called Powerscourt with a Falls and an Estate and that area was the best free, bang for your buck area. Cork is awesome. I also love Boston and Puerto Rico. Driving around Puerto Rico was so much fun. Get out of San Juan. The beach at Luquillo is see through and gorgeous and there are people riding horses on the beach and there's rainforest across the street.
  20. Well they don't sign every Friday, so maybe there weren't any but Sept. dates left?
  21. They cancelled the Autograph Fridays for the rest of the year: Please be advised that Autograph Fridays for the month of September have been cancelled.
  22. Yes, you sit in the press box, directly behind home plate, right next to the official scorer.
  23. Well I officially hate you a ton jflick - I couldn't believe I got so far in the process - they said a couple of hundred people applied and they even talked about having 3 of us do it, instead of just 2 of you. I literally just missed out. Very cool for you, though.
  24. Wait a second. How did you get this job? Sounds pretty interesting. Care to elaborate on the whole process a little more? You apply through MLB.com and go through an interview process and take a very in-depth test on how to score a game and then interview some more. There is a manual full of codes that you use to score each pitch and play. You train for awhile on taped games and you need to learn a lot of the coding so that you can score the game as quick as possible. When you're watching gameday and there's a pause, it's because whoever is scoring doesnt know how to score it - either it's a weird play, or a complicated code or the official scorer hasn't made a decision - the program won't advance until you enter a code - so you can't go on until you're scored the play before.
