  1. This is probably opening a whole new can of worms, but I absolutely don't understand the need or desire to get wasted before going into the game. In this same thread we've had people talking about the cost of the game. Why would you front that kind of money and then put yourself in a situation where you won't remember what happened or be able to fully experience it?
  2. One of the other things I keep forgetting to mention is that supposedly they were going to lose a lot of parking to TV trucks and press. I didn't remember to look to see if this was the case, but increased prices in tickets might have covered some of the lost revenue from all these spaces being taken by non-paying vehicles.
  3. I was thinking about ticket prices for this postseason, especially with the discussions of price gouging going on in other topics. When I have told people that we bought the full postseason strip for each of us and that, with parking, it cost us about $1800, people have been shocked. The thing is, so much of that is wrapped up in World Series tickets. There were tons of stories about folks buying tickets to the Badgers/Nebraska game for $100-$200 a ticket and no one seems to blink an eye for that. Let's split the difference and say my bf and I could have gone to the Badger game for $300. For one game. If there are 3 NLDS games and 3 NLCS games in Milwaukee, we'll have paid $330. That's 6 postseason games for basically the same price as one regular-season Badger game. I just think that's incredibly reasonable.
  4. Those drawing folks are MP are PUSHY, too. You're right that at least MP made them move outside. They used to cram into the area just inside the turnstiles and thrust their entry form at you as you tried to pass and get into the stadium. Because of the escalators and the store at home plate, its kind of an enclosed, crowded area and you can really get harassed in the time it takes you to get past and into the flow of traffic past them.
  5. I don't think it has to be smack heads. There are always people in the lot collecting cans to turn in - it would make sense that turning in grills makes you a lot more money and is less time-consuming and messy.
  6. It seems like most of the stories about the police hustling people came from the former-Giants/now-Molitor lot. I wonder if that has to do with it being in a neighborhood. Additionally, we were in that lot after Saturday's game for about an hour and when we left, we got out with absolutely no issue. The lines were gone by that point. While we were there someone injured themselves - we don't know how - and had to be removed via ambulance. I would assume those sorts of incidents will continue to increase the police presence. I'd have to assume that much of the concern is about folks drinking post-game and then getting in the car and driving. They cut off drinks inside the stadium at the 7th innings to help with the sobering process. I just think its extreme hyperbole to call $20 parking "price gouging." I'm pretty sure Marquee parking was $15 this season. $5 more dollars for the playoffs is not gouging. The $75 they were charging downtown during the NCAA tournament was price gouging. They didn't MAKE me pay ahead of time. I had the choice whether or not to buy parking in advance. In order to ensure that I had a space and to lock in the lower price, I chose to do it. It's useful for the Brewers to know how many cars are coming in advance and for the inconvenience of asking me to say whether or not I'll be one of those cars, I got a discount. Its a transaction.
  7. The parking structures around the Bradley Center charge $20-$30 for Bucks and Marquette games during the regular season. When the NCAA tournament was in town, it was more. The face value on my Terrace Reserved NLDS ticket is $15. For NLCS its $40. SSH who bought their parking in advance are paying $15 a game. The Brewers are BEYOND reasonable in their pricing and parking. I think people are spoiled by how good we have it at other times and they are surprised when the Brewers meet market value. As mentioned by others, there are several other options for getting to Miller Park, including walking, the city bus and bar shuttles. The Brewers didn't have to create giant parking lots where fans could tailgate, but they did. You are paying for that privilege. The Marquee games are usually against Chicago, St. Louis and Minnesota - I believe the assumption is that more out-of-town people drive to the games and the Brewers charge them a premium to be at the games. Cubs fans flock to Miller Park because they can tailgate, the tickets are easier to get than tickets at Wrigley and they are cheaper. Even at the Marquee price, Cubs fans are getting off cheap. The Brewers are taking advantage of that traveling crowd and charging them to be there. This idea will be in effect even more so next year, as they've added another "tier" of games: For 2012, the Brewers are introducing a new concept in pricing structure for Individual Game tickets. There will be three categories of games and corresponding prices: “Blue” Games (56 games), “Gold” Games (6 Saturday and 6 Sunday games from June through August), and the traditional “Marquee” Games (Opening Day, 9 Cubs, and 3 Twins games). Edit to add: Everyone is talking like tailgating is their right, and its not. We're lucky the team and the town support the tradition, but its something we should grateful for.
  8. She's on a show called Mike and Molly - despite not knowing the show, you might have heard some of the hubub that surrounded it early because it features two overweight people and there were a lot of folks saying it shouldn't be on TV. She was on Gilmore Girls for 7 seasons as the mom's best friend and co-worker, Suki.
  9. Yeah - we're in 416 row 16 for the stretch run.
  10. I buy the small portable grill from Walmart. It used to be $9.84. This year I think it was $12. Either way, it's cheap and we use it to tailgate probably 10 times a season. That way if it disappears, it's easy to replace. It also has a locking lid and legs that fold in, meaning it fits in the car much easier. I personally love this grill - the little details make it so nice and the cheap price is just a bonus. I would never buy another, more expensive grill. We've gone through like 3 of these over the years - we're huge fans. I HATE the FlameDisc. We also got some free in the parking lot a year or two ago and every one of them was a dud. We even bought one or two more from the store with the coupon to give it another chance. We could never get them to fully light, so our food didn't cook. They were such a waste and left us without food. We will never use them again. Just my two cents.
  11. I have one in section 103 row 11 for sale. Face is $40 and it cost me $6 in fees - so $46 gets it. I'm in Milwaukee and can meet up to exchange - we'll be at both games and tailgating beforehand, so you there's plenty of time to meet up.
  12. Man is this tempting. Have a friend in Phoenix who's already offered to go to the games with me, let me stay with her and the use of her car, which was enough to convince me to check out ticket prices. $300+ out of Milwaukee now taking donations of Frequent Flier miles!
  13. I just saw this tonight - its a compilation of some Nyjer interview moments that might help you http://mlb.mlb.com/video/...8370332435758109332-1035
  14. It's usually not the wave in and of itself, its the ridiculous people involved in the wave: Like the one (usually a lady) in front of you who leans forward, usually cutting off your view of the field, and does the "Ooooh, it's coming. Do you see it? It's coming. I'm so excited. I love the wave. It's coming (now bouncing in seat) It's coming! Ooooh." and then does the wave and then continues "Oooh, there it went. That was so fun. The wave is so great. Watch it go. There it goes." Repeat ad nauseum Or the drunk guy who stands at the front of the section for two innings going "Ready? We're going to start the wave. Ready? Are you guys ready? 1! 2! 3!..... You guys didn't do it. We'll try again!" Stupid people are the problem, not the wave
  15. The guy in front of me at the rally who did "beast mode" for about an hour straight - your hands are in half my pictures! Nyjer wasn't going to see you. Put your damn hands down and let me take some pictures. Grump, grump, grumpity grump
  16. Having playoff tickets in hand. Not trying to run anyone's nose in it - we did the scramble for tickets in 08, so I'm just so happily secure with my strip of tickets. Buying a 20-game pack right after the signed Greinke was the best choice we've made in awhile.
  17. Looking for two on Sunday. Do you still have these available?
  18. There was a story circulating last night that the DBacks are so worried about not selling out that they're selling tickets for as low as $12
  19. Kind of disappointed that they spent so much time on Buckner and Boston. I mean, there are parallels, but I feel like they were just filling time because they didn't have enough to fill a whole film with Bartman. Also, its all kind of meta to have this movie with a major theme about an obsessed media and sports culture. Like others have said, it felt like a request to Bartman, making the filmmaker as responsible for the problem as anyone else.
  20. I think Prince might have just handed Braun the MVP. Kemp no longer leading in HR, ten points behind in AVG. Only leads in RBI. I think Kemp's case isn't as strong without triple crown.
  21. You can stand behind the handicap areas, but not in the walkways - so not directly behind home plate against the concrete.
  22. Google took me right to this link that has all the post season game days. The guide on TV says the NLDS games on Saturday are scheduled for 11, 230, 6, and 930 CST.
  23. I'm fairly certain this is an MLB event. All the playoff teams have them. There was tons of signage that was clearly from the league with the greeny postseason background and MLB logos everywhere in 2008. Aren't we really looking at this the wrong way? You all are talking as though the team got together and decided to throw a party on the Summerfest grounds. I know they don't mind doing fan stuff, but I think its nuts to think that there isn't something else the players would rather be doing for a few hours on one of their off days before the playoffs. I'm not sure the marketing argument is sound. The average person would have to take time off work to get to the rally on time. These are hard core fans. They aren't waiting til Thursday to buy their championship gear - they have it already. Other than beer sold, which is unlikely the Brewers are even getting a big cut of, I doubt this is a huge money-making venture. My two cents
  24. Now that someone mentioned the back of the postseason folder I'm looking at it and its really interesting. Bleacher tickets are $10 more expensive than Terr Resv for NLDS, $25 cheaper for the World Series. I don't think I'd assume that all available tickets will be Terr Resv. A lot of 20 game holders are Terr Resv - that means 4 people "per seat." If each of those people purchased postseason, they have find a place for each of those people. Also, they don't upgrade you. If you're in Loge or Terr Box and they don't have seats for you, they bump you to Terr Resv. My guess is that sections like Loge and Field Outfield - which are pretty much empty on non-sellout night - will be available. They don't really have SSH out there. When I received my tickets I posted a pic on twitter and I just put a pen over each of the barcodes, so they couldn't be seen. When they were on TV, I asked them to blur the barcode. But my seat locations were on both twitter and TV. But I blog under my real name and tweet constantly. I figure if someone wanted to stalk me, they'd be able to do it more cheaply than at a postseason game.
  25. That's interesting - I'm a SSH in Terr Resv and bought the whole kit and caboodle. "Face" on my Terr Resv NLDS tickets is $15.00
