  1. Per http://www.azcentral.com/...s/Blog/NickPiecoro/60148 the Dbacks are not looking to dump salary. I have a tough time believing that and am guessing they are just publicly negotiating to try and get a player back. I don't see a benefit to them keeping Davis. They let Dunn walk, I have a hard time thinking they want to spend another $2.5M+ to keep Davis so they can offer him arb, hoping he turns it down and gets a compensation pick. Hopefully the Brewers won't give up more than a marginal player that doesn't project to have a career as a Brewer, be it Katin or some other position player.

  7. He's making $8.75M, so it would be under $3M, but at least $2.6M I think.

  13. Teams have 2 days to work out a deal, once claimed, right? That would mean that he could start Saturday night in place of Burns.

  19. The Brewers have the 31st off, then start a 3 game series in St Louis on the 1st, then are home on the 4th. Don't know if that will have any impact on when players get called up.
  20. How does it make sense to say that Kendall is not hurting the team with his awful play Who has said this? Kendall is hurting this team with his play. But it's not clear that any available replacement would actually be better right now. If Jason Kendall is not replaceable, then no veteran ever deserves to be replaced. Nobody has said that he is not replaceable, just that our current options aren't better. I hope that we are able to get a veteran to a one year deal for a mil or less for 2010. If I thought that Damian Miller could come back and be better right now, I would support that too.
  21. He demoted a far better player than Kendall Because he had an option who could be better defensively and shouldn't be that much different than what Hardy had already been hitting. to get rid of another guy whose crime was merely hitting as poorly as Kendall the golden boy He should have been gotten rid of, as that level of hitting is unacceptable at any other position. In other words, guys who can't catch don't catch, thus the spread in defensive abilities from the best catcher to the worst is not nearly as large as one would believe. Since you believe in this weeding out process, there is probably a good reason why Salome and Rivera aren't replacing Kendall, as they are obviously better hitters.
  22. What will you accept as evidence, since it's so hard to measure? CC and Sheets couldn't wait to praise Kendall in their post-game interviews last year. They routinely did so without provocation. I don't know if Kendall is "good" defensively. He might be around average. But I've seen him make good plays, and I know that in one of the few games Rivera had this year he didn't look good at all, and it was commented on here. I am definitely happy that Rivera is catching Manny, they have had good success together, and Kendall catching as often as he does is certainly excessive. But I don't think Melvin would put himself in a position to lose his job if he didn't have confidence that Kendall is the best option right now.
  23. Kendall is only bad in 4 or 5 times a game. A catcher that isn't good defensively can negatively affect the team more often than that. If defense doesn't matter, we should make Casey the everyday catcher and call up Gamel.
  24. Kendall is actively hurting the team and we would all prefer to have a better catcher, but there really isn't a clearly better option right now. Catching defense is hard to measure, but it's also incredibly important. If it wasn't, any AAA player that could hit but wasn't being promoted would take up catching to get a job.
  25. I don't think people are understanding just how bad Kendall is It's clear how bad he is. Let him work on his defense in the majors, it's not like Kendall's been good in that department either. As long as there is a sliver of hope that the Brewers could have a miracle comeback, Salome has no business catching in the majors.
