  1. What do you mean by flash? Doesn't he have the ability to dive for a ground ball get up and throw it? Are his reactions limited to balls a certain distance away from him? Does his arm strength only work with throws at a certain distance? I just don't understand what flash others have in making plays look great that he can't make if he really is that much better at it than others. Maybe abnormally gifted athletically would have been better to say than flash. Basically athletic ability; speed, reflexes, etc... Hardy is a great defensive player, he gets to a pretty good amount of balls, and has pretty good range - but he doesn't make the flashy plays because he doesn't have that freakish athletic ability to go along with his great reaction time off the bat. Escobar has that. JJ is a good-to-great defensive player. Escobar, as I said, is a once-in-a-generation type defensive player. That being said, Escobar will never develop the power JJ has. Can he make up for that with his defense, and developing the hitting like he did in AA last year? Time will tell...
  2. If this was true he would be making as many highlight plays as any other but they would be even deeper in the hole and would only be more of a highlight simply because he got to one that others simply couldn't make. He may get to some balls quicker than others but he would still make as many plays that looked cool. They'd just be cooler because he went further. Well, as others and I have said; JJ doesn't have that speed and flash. The plays he doesn't get to, he just plain doesn't get to. He doesn't have the speed to go along with his reaction time that others have had. He doesn't have the flash to make highlight reel plays that he shouldn't have gotten to. He has exceptional reaction time which enables him to have great range, as most metrics would prove. Escobar has the flash, and the speed that JJ doesn't have and he may even have the reaction time. This is why he is a ONCE in a generation type defensive player.
  3. 1.) It's no longer 1985 2.) Yount couldn't make the throw from SS any longer. I believe he was talking about Bill Hall. His range doesn't really pass the eye-test though. I'm skeptical of any stat that says he has exceptional range. This is exactly why they have stats & metrics. The "eye test" doesn't really tell people all that much. JJ Hardy DOES have exceptional range; and the reason you can't see it with the "eye test" is because that range doesn't come from flash or speed. JJ's range comes from his ridiculous reaction time. The ball is hit and JJ is moving well before anyone else on the team. JJ doesn't need to posess the speed or flash of some other SS's and still can the same or better range than most of them. Where some SS's make highlight reel plays that you see on SportsCenter, and think wow, that is great range - JJ would have made that same play, but it wouldn't be highlight reel because his reaction was so much faster that he got to the ball and made the play look easy.
  4. I believe it was last year or a couple years ago when they tested speed and for some reason I remember Hardy being one of the fastest Brewers. I could be wrong though, I can't find the data to back it up.
  5. I'm actually going to have to agree with zzzman, those comments are what made the IGT's different from the standard threads. Sometimes I would just sit at home watching the game and refreshing the IGT just to see the hilarious comments.
  6. From BrewCrewBall.com "Gagne, however, still isn't pitching much at all as he battles a strained calf. He'll throw BP on Friday before deciding if he's ready for game action. He's in a tough spot, though: By tomorrow he'll only have about four weeks to prove he deserves a spot in the bullpen before his March 25 deadline, so my guess is he'll go even if he's not 100%." From FantasySP.com "MLB.com reports that reliever Eric Gagne is dealing with a strained calf. He is afew steps behind the other pitchers, but plans to throw live batting practice on Friday.Gagne is on a minor-league deal, so these setbacks could cost him his roster spot. He doesn't sound very optimistic about his calf, and neither are we."
  7. Congratulations JJHardy7 with the most pessimistic post thus far. Here are the current brewerfan.net composite projections. Brewerfan Prediction Averages Prediction Type Wins Losses Games Played MEAN: 86.48 75.48 161.96 MEDIAN: 86 76 162 MODE: 88 74 162 BEST: 100 62 162 WORST 77 85 162
  8. Wow... getting more optimistic by the day... especially post #37... 100-62 (that might be something a little more than optimistic). Brewerfan Prediction Averages Prediction Type Wins Losses Games Played MEAN: 87.06 74.89 161.94 MEDIAN: 86 76 162 MODE: 88 74 162 BEST: 100 62 162 WORST 80 82 162
  9. Brewerfan Prediction Averages Prediction Type: Wins - Losses - Games Played MEAN: 86.55 - 75.38 - 161.93 MEDIAN: 86 - 76 - 162 MODE: 88 - 74 - 162 BEST: 95 - 67 - 162 WORST 80 - 82 - 162
  10. A guy in my office: 85-77
  11. Current stats are pretty optimistic... Wins - Losses - Games Played MEAN: 86.95 - 74.95 - 161.89 MED: 87 - 75 - 162 MODE: 86 - 76 - 162 MAX: 95 - 82 - 162 MIN: 80 - 67 - 161 Obviously 95-82 isn't a record, it's just the maximum amount of wins anyone gave and the maximum amount of losses anyone gave... You'd have to match up the MAX-Wins with MIN-Losses and vise versa for the records.
  12. Villy has a reliever mentality. I've heard him say that when he gets called into the game... most of the time he doesn't even know what inning it is, what the situation is... or anything like that. He doesn't want to know. Parra will be fine. I think he'll be a great pitcher. If you look at his minor league stats, he didn't walk near as many as he did last year. Once he starts attacking hitters like he did in the minors he'll be fine, and I think he'll start doing that this year.
  13. The number 7 has been guessed 5 times... followed not all that closely by 111 having 3 guesses.
  14. Put me down for the under.
  15. I agree twobrewers! As soon as CC came to town (which we all knew would only be for half a year) people immediately rallied around him and threw Sheets under the bus. Sheets has done anything and everything for the Brewers for a long time now and so many are way to quick to disregard all of that. I just don't get it.
  16. JJ, You think that's worse that this year's Weeks, Hall, Kendall, Cameron, Hart?
  17. 100% agree with JohnBriggs. And actually, he's still above average offensively for 3B... just not as much as SS.
  18. I don't know for sure, but I know I've heard Bill and Brian talk about how JJ threw mid 90's, which is why they were talking about him pitching in the 1st place.
  19. So, anyone else think Mark A went to Melvin and told him it's on him if they don't make the playoffs - so he better do something. I'm predicting if they don't make it, DM is gone and Jack Z becomes the General Manager.
  20. I guess I don't really understand the notion of JJ losing money by playing 3B for the Crew. He's been a SS his whole career, you think by playing a year or two of 3B he'll all of a sudden forget how to play SS so much that a team looking for a SS when the Brewers are ready to move him won't be at all interested? I will have to disagree with you.
