  1. Agreed. That makes much more sense. I believe it definitely has to do with more lefties throwing 3/4 or side armed than righties. I was in the same boat as topper in thinking you were saying that just because they were left-handed they would have more movement on their ball.
  2. southpaw - what about the physical makeup of a left-handed person would give them the inherant ability to have more movement on their pitches than a right-handed person? I guess I just don't understand this logic.
  3. Backupcatchers - Almost no one swings on 3-0 because even the best hitters will make an out 2/3 of the time; and the chances he can get on base via the walk were extremely high. I think that to swing or take the walk would depend largely on who follows them in the lineup though. In this case, Ryan Braun was hitting behind JJ and Prince after that. 100% of the time, I want as many people on base for Braun/Fielder as possible - so I think taking that walk was the right move. Now, if JJ was hitting 7th or 8th in the lineup I would agree with you because his chances of a hit far outweigh the chances of Kendall or the pitcher - especially in that count.
  4. Couldn't agree more. Everytime I see the lineup and Gamel's not in it, I feel cheated. Start McGehee at 2nd and Gamel at 3rd, Counsell shouldn't start this often. He should be a super-sub and nothing more.
  5. Liking or not liking Hardy has nothing to do with it, Hart struggled to get on base most of last year which limited his value a lot and then he struggled this year too. Hart doesn't have any bad luck in his stats at all either, Hardy has a pretty clear explanation for at least part of his troubles in his BABIP. I agree. And I would also like to add that comparing the offensive production of a corner outfielder to a shortstop shouldn't even be allowed. Shortstop is a premium defensive position and getting above average offensive production there is a bonus. Corner outfield is pretty low on the defensive spectrum and therefore is a position where high offensive production is important. Corey Hart should be having more animosity directed at him because corner outfielders are a dime a dozen and he needs to produce to remain an asset to this team. JJ Hardy is an asset to this team, even when his offense isn't all there because he is an above average defender at a premium defensive position. The offense that he has proven to provide is a huge bonus and will be needed later in the year to remain in the playoff picture. JJ would be an asset to most teams in the MLB.
  6. I can't believe the first post of Matt Wieters is post #29. Sure he has underwhelmed in his first couple weeks in the bigs - but the potential of this kid is up there in Joe Mauer territory (offense and defense). Once he gets going I think he runs away with it. edit: see logan's response below... my bad...
  7. Old and a power pitcher or old and a control pitcher. I'd take old and a control pitcher, because most likely one would lose power before control.
  8. Didn't think you could switch pitchers mid batter... I guess I was mistaken. Don't think I've ever seen that before.
  9. List the teams that would pay a player 21 million dollars for 4 wins during the regular season knowing that once they got to the playoffs he couldn't play. There is none. You have to look at it like that because that is what happened. As was said - probably any team that missed the playoffs by one or two games would have last year. Because like I said - any team that makes it to the playoffs has at least a chance at winning the World Series. That's why most say the skill of baseball is making it to the playoffs - once your there luck plays a much larger factor just because a team on a hot streak at the right time can beat any other team. Look at last year for example... the Cubs won 100 games and got swept... the Angels had the best record in baseball. The same can be said about most baseball seasons; the best teams in the league (talent wise) are rarely the winners of the World Series.
  10. That's the problem with the "smell test" or absolutely no evidence other than your own personal opinion. How can you just say "no he was not worth that figure - it is not accurate"? If anything you could say "I don't think he was worth that much," so at least people would know you have absolutely no reason or evidence into thinking this other than "he didn't play in the playoffs." But even the only reason you have is completely flawed. By that logic if he pitched in the playoffs and pitched very poorly, he would have been worth more? CC wasn't hurt, but pitched poor in the playoffs anyway (a few years in a row actually) so is he worth even less than Sheets? At least Sheets was hurt so we could have someone else pitch who might do better. So what would you rather have: a 3.1 ERA 200IP pitcher who gets hurt and misses the playoffs, or a 3.7 ERA 200+ IP pitcher who would have been available in the playoffs, but since we wouldn't have made the playoffs with that pitcher didn't have to play anyway? I'd rather make the playoffs - and I'd pay to make the playoffs; because any team that makes the playoffs has a chance at winning the World Series. Based on the season he had last year, Sheets was worth $20M. He got us to the playoffs. There are many teams out there who would pay that much for a 4+ win player for a chance to make the playoffs.
  11. Trevor Sucks... he gave up a walk yesterday! (1st one of the season)
  12. You think he'll be treated any differently in a different city? No matter where you are fans will boo you for poor performance. That's just the name of this game. Fans have very short memories and can easily forget three terrific starts in a row with one really bad one. This is not just a Milwaukee thing.
  13. 14-14 Braun: 8HR Fielder: 7HR Cameron: 5 HR
  14. To answer the subject question: Yes. Now all they have to do is bring up Swindle and DFA Julio and I will be completely comfortable with almost everyone in the bullpen coming in to any game.
  15. 'he has no holes in his swing' Someone on Brewerfan wrote this last year too. He had a friend that was a major league reliever who said that about Rickie. He said he was the best pure hitter on the Brewers because he had no holes in his swing and if he could gain some confidence people better watch out. He said Prince was a GREAT mistake hitter, and that if Braun wasn't the cockiest player in baseball, he definitely is up there. I have been thinking for a long time, and people on here have said the same thing about moving Rickie down in the order, but the problem was we didn't have anyone better to lead off. With Harts OBA skills this year, it seems like as long as he keeps it up, he'll thrive in that roll. I was thinking about the lineup if they could keep Rickie down and I came up with something along the lines of: Hart, Braun, Prince, Rickie... then the rest stays the same. Getting Braun & Prince extra PA's per game/season would be great. But really, we could probably switch any of those three (Braun, Prince, Rickie) around and I'd be happy with it.
  16. I guess it's hard for me to fathom the idea that it wasn't a good idea for the franchise. Baseball is a business, and in this business, like any other, you have to make money. That one playoff appearance has gone a very long way in rejuvinating a once forgotten team with the city of Milwaukee. Yeah, we on this site generally talk badly about the "casual fan", but as far as the business is concerned... the average fan is just as good as any of us if it means they pay for tickets and merchandise. I mean, look at all the people that bought CC jerseys. Or how many people were at each game he pitched. That deal made this franchise a lot of money - last year, as well as this year and in the future. To a lot of fans, baseball is finally back in Milwaukee because of a trade like that. I guess to me, that's what baseball is all about. I think if the front office could take last year back and do it over again - they'd make exactly the same decision.
  17. My buddy was a bartender & manager there for the last few years so generally we'd go up there every game around the 6th inning or so. I don't think we've ever had a problem finding a seat on the patio outside. I'm not sure if you have to keep ordering to stay there, because we were always ordering some beer. Plus, we never really went on huge marquee games. The beer & drink prices really aren't bad... but the food prices are killer.
  18. You're ok with Coors or Schlitz - but keep that Bud out of Miller Park. It's just not right.
  19. The woman wanted me to get some "Bud Light Lime" for her to bring to the game. She was upset when I showed up with Miller Chill. I told her when we tailgate for a Brewer game - it's WI beer only.
  20. I don't think we're really questioning that. I think it is more of a question of Julio vs. Swindle.
  21. Wow. There is some crazy overreactions going on in this thread. Think about it this way... this is roughly equivalent to the Packers starting 0-1. How many of you would call the season quits with a 0-1 record? Probably no one.
  22. Hope I'm not too late. I'm in! Thanks for the opportunity!
  23. Another question to ask about Gamel is where does he hit in the lineup? If you bat him 7th where Hall is batting that is a waste and you are not going to be getting the production you would want out of Gamel. Do you put Gamel 2nd? Have Prince bat 3rd Braun 4th Gamel 5th? If you put Gamel in the 2nd hole where do you put Hart? If you change up the batting order where do you put Hardy and Cameron? IMO, this is a non-issue. What better problem to have than having too many good bats in your lineup? Darn, we get production from the bottom of the order........
  24. Stetter used to have a regular overhand delivery - he has just in the last couple years changed to that side-arm style he has now.
  25. I wanted Swindle personally. Agreed. I was really looking forward to seeing his 55 MPH curve! For some reason they looked at Stetter/Swindle as an either/or type of deal, and I really don't know why. They're both good pitchers and both can pitch against RHP as well as LHP.
