  1. Luc and Smith for Baez and Montero - no way in my book. That's a huge overpay. You're actually taking on salary. Baez has serious contact issues, and some scouts don't know if he'll ever hit big league pitching. That doesn't mean I wouldn't want him, he obviously has talent, but it would be way underselling on Luc - not to mention giving them Smith. That's a massive overpay. If the club likes Baez, you could do something like remove Smith from the deal, then add something else in from Chicago's system. That's my opinion. LOL at that trade. Montero is older than both Luc and Smith and offers nothing for the rebuild. So the trade is basically Smith and Lucroy for Baez. Which is also LOL. Montero is a movable asset so it's not just Smith and Lucroy for Baez. If you can find a 3rd team then the Cubs would make sense. Maybe someone like the Rays or Nationals? However I would still want more back than Baez and Montero for Smith and Lucroy. The Cubs would have to sweeten that up with a couple of their blocked prospects.
  2. I wouldn't overlook Bubba Derby in all of this. The BA prospect handbook was just as high on Derby as they were on Nottingham. Throw in Stearns success in Houston with snatching up young pitching prospects before they exploded onto the scene and I'm really intrigued with the guy.
  3. You said that "teams don't give up cheap talented players to waivers and pennies on the dollar trades." I provided an example of a player from Houston (where our GM came from) that completely shoots down that comment. Now do I know if Liriano or Cecchini will be anything other than roster fodder? I don't even know if Cecchini will make the ML roster as he has options remaining. All I'm saying is that until they are given an opportunity, you cannot make a definitive statement on them one way or the other. Would anyone have ever thought that Casey McGee or Brady Clark would be decent major leaguers? I wouldn't have bet on em.
  4. I care, greatly. I think many misunderstand my POV on the offseason, as opposed to July. This is the MLB board and I my "negativity" is only discussing the MLB roster. I AGREE with what Stearns is doing. I WANT the Brewers to develop not just a good, but the best farm system in the game filled with 8-10 top 100 players going forward. 81 wins would be a disaster, assuming the goal is to win a championship in the next 5-7 years. The Brewers are playing Chess, not Checkers. Checkers is adding Cecchini types et al in 2016 and saying well he might be OK. Checkers is adding a Carter and saying well he could be better than Lind, etc etc etc. The reality is in this day of advanced metrics, teams dont give up cheap talented players to waivers and pennies on the dollar trades, so the likelyhood is all these fillers are more likely to perform at 2015 levels than former prospect levels. Ever heard of Colin McHugh from Houston? He's doing pretty well for a waiver wire claim.
  5. Nottingham was ranked 66th on the new Baseball Prospectus Top 101! http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=28319
  6. I've come to the conclusion that Victor Robles is probably the best prospect we could get in return for Lucroy. He's the only guy I see that's attainable that has a future as a possible Top 10 prospect. He's already rated in the top 50 by some sites and has never even played in A ball. Unfortunately some people will look at him and say we don't have a need with the glut of outfielders we have but he's on another level talent wise. He reminds me of a young Carlos Gomez with a much better hit tool.
  7. Isan Diaz is an absolute stud! David Stearns has been nothing short of phenomenal in his first couple months on the job!
  8. Baseball Prospectus came out with their Top 101 Prospect list and several of the guys mentioned in this thread were ranked. Rangers 5. Nomar Mazara, OF 8. Joey Gallo, 3B 15. Lewis Brinson, OF 59. Dillon Tate, RHP 68. Luis Ortiz, RHP Nationals 3. Lucas Giolito, RHP 13. Tre Turner, SS 29. Victor Robles, OF 75. Reynaldo Lopez Rays 21. Blake Snell, LHP 52. Brent Honeywell, RHP 54. Willy Adames, SS 84. Taylor Guerrieri, RHP 88. Daniel Roberton, SS A's 26. Franklin Barreto, SS 45. Sean Manaea, LHP 66. Jacob Nottingham, C Astros 39. Alex Bregman, SS 55. A.J. Reed, 1B 63. Francis Martes, RHP 85. Daz Cameron, OF 93. Kyle Tucker, OF DBack's 38. Braden Shipley, RHP 48. Archie Bradley, RHP 72. Brandon Drury, 2B/3B
  9. Sickels was still very high on Liriano just a year ago. 3) Rymer Liriano, OF, Grade B/Borderline B+: Age 23, hit .291/.362/.473 with 20 steals in 115 games between Double-A and Triple-A, but just .220/.289/.266 in 38 major league games. All the tools are here but his approach is still rather raw. 20/20 potential if he can show sufficient polish for it to manifest, which is still an open question. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/1/17/7629429/san-diego-padres-top-20-prospects-for-2015
  10. I would be disappointed if that's all we got back for Braun. We're not hurting with our payroll so I would try to eat as much of his salary as possible in order to bring back a better return. I do like Reyes and the switch hitting catcher though and would try to bring them back as apart of any deal. I would just hope we would get a better pitching prospect in return. Even taking a chance on Dylan Bundy who is out of options seems more intriguing.
  11. I came across an article from an A's fan who proposed this trade. http://swinginas.com/2016/01/23/jonathan-lucroy-perfect-fit-oakland-athletics/
  12. The A's would match up nicely for a prospect for prospect swap. They have a glut of infielder prospects but are completely devoid of any relevant OF prospect. Of course they might be a fit for someone like Khris Davis as well.
  13. http://www.nbcdfw.com/blogs/red-fever/Brewers-Continue-to-Discuss-Lucroy-Option-365007181.html Is there a way you could make this deal happen without Gallo, Mazara, Tate and Brinson? I think you could work something out but the Rangers might need to give up a 5th piece in return. Something like RHP Luis Ortiz, RHP Michael Matuella, LHP Yohander Mendez, 2B/3B Josh Morgan and a throw in like Ronald Guzman would do it for me personally.
  14. The A's match up well with what we lack in our system but I don't see how Lucroy is a need for them. Stephen Vogt is coming off a really good season and seems to be entrenched in the starting lineup. It's a shame because I would take that package in an instant.
  15. D'Backs RHP Braden Shipley (2) 3B Brandon Drury (5) LHP Cody Reed (9) 2B Isan Diaz (14) Nationals RHP Reynaldo Lopez (3) RHP Erick Fedde (5) C Jakson Reetz (8) 3B Anderson Franco (16) Rangers OF Lewis Brinson (4) RHP Luis Ortiz (5) 2B/3B Josh Morgan (11) C Jose Trevino (27) Rays RHP Brent Honeywell (3) C Justin O'Conner (8) 1B Casey Gillespie (10) or 3B Richie Schafer (11) RHP German Marquez (25) (MLB.com rankings)
  16. Any deal with Washington will have to be built on quantity as Giolito and Turner are probably off the table. Still, they have what it takes to get a deal done IMO. I would ask for 2 of Reynaldo Lopez, Erick Fedde, and A.J. Cole OF Victor Robles And then one of either Jackson Reetz, Pedro Severino, Anderson Franco or Juan Soto It doesn't have the sexy current top 100 prospect you would be looking for but I see Robles as a future star and everyone of those pitchers has #3 or better upside. Throw in a catching prospect or a low level lottery ticket like Franco or Soto and I would be very pleased with our haul.
  17. The White Sox have some interesting players. Obviously Carson Fulmer and Spencer Adams jump out at you and then there's some really young prospects with interesting upside. Tim Anderson is a stud and Trey Michalczweski is a top 10 ranked 3B on MLB.com. Micker Adolfo is a tool shed and Jhoandro Alfaro is the younger brother of the best catching prospect in baseball.
  18. The Angels might be an interesting trade partner for Khris Davis. They have a need in LF but are right up against the Luxary tax threshold. Trading for someone like Davis would prevent them from crossing that barrier while still addressing the situation. The problem is their farm system is depleted to say the least. Still there is some interesting names to toss around like Joe Gatto and Tyler Ward.
  19. Not currently but that's not to say that they won't be. We all know Stearns isn't afraid to mine lower levels of the minors to get back the most value.
  20. I think that would be a fair deal. I don't know how willing the Rangers would be to part with Tate but a package around Ortiz, Matuella, Mendez and another low level nugget like Leody Taveras would still be a nice haul.
  21. C Jon Lucroy 2B Scooter Gennett for 1 of RHP Reynaldo Lopez, RHP Erick Fedde or A.J. Cole 2B/SS Wilmer Difo CF Victor Robles Either C Jackson Reetz or C Pedro Severino
  22. I think Javier Baez would have to be in the deal in any deal with the Cubs and Willson Contreras would have to be included as well. After that it would be pretty easy to find another 2 or 3 prospects that the Brewers really liked. I'm particularly fond of a couple of their young pitching prospects they've drafted out of HS the last couple years like Dylan Hudson and Bryan Hudson.
  23. Very underwhelmed but then I don't know much about these kids. Herrera walked more than he struck out a year ago. Missaki and Peralta had decent numbers with a great SO/BB ratio. Does anyone have any scouting reports of these prospects?
  24. LHP Luiz Gohara (A Short) 19 RHP Nick Neidert (ROK) 19 LHP Nick Wells (A Short) 19 RHP Dylan Thompson (ROK) 19 All seem to fit the description.
  25. D.J. Peterson was a B+ prospect a year ago by Sickels. Obviously his star has faded a bit but he's still probably a B prospect at the least. That would put him as the same grade as Trent Clark so he would be around our 5th or 6th best prospect. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/12/2/9814812/milwaukee-brewers-top-20-prospects-for-2016
