  1. Probably had a lot to do with why he was on Roids in the 1st Place. Incredible genetics for playing Baseball. Not so great genetics for durability. Not to derail the thread, but obligatory need to point out the greatest fallacy of the steroid debate - systemic steroids absolutely do not help you heal from injury. In fact, they have the exact opposite effect. Yes, a local injection can decrease inflammation which is why it's useful to control pain in a specific location (like a joint or tendon), but systemic steroids suppress your entire immune system, which is the singular critical element in healing. One thing steroids have been scientifically shown to do is make you stronger, faster, more powerful. This, and this alone, is the reason athletes take them. But people seem to think the healing thing is a legit reason, which is why athletes that get caught use it as an excuse. It sounds better than "oh I did it to gain a competitive advantage over other players," which is the truth. Honestly I don't care much when athletes use them, but for some reason I get annoyed that they get away with this excuse. If anything Braun's injury issues are far more likely because of long-term steroid use rather than no longer using.
  2. Villar had a huge year in 2016 and showed some life again towards the end of 2017. He is also still cheap (thanks Jonathan...), and while he's arbitration eligible this year I can't imagine his number will be real high after his 2017 showing. Also, trying to trade him this offseason would be selling low. I don't think he's that 2016 guy, and don't want him to be the starter as he drives me absolutely nuts sometimes - but don't see any reason to get rid of him now. Especially if he can learn the OF he could have value as a super utility player a la Perez. This will be one of the more interesting offseason in recent memory - lots of decent-to-good players, but no great players. So how do you upgrade? Who to trade/replace, if anyone? As far as last game as a Brewer, I'll say: Torres (please) Garza (pretty please) Broxton (need to make room in the OF) Walker (price/years have to be right for Stearns to keep him, my guess is he'll be too expensive and more importantly will want too many years)
  3. I vaguely recall the cussing ban being lifted for a day or two a few years ago and limited to one particular thread. Seems like a good time for a comeback. It was after they lost to the Cardinals in the 2011 NLCS. I was just going to post that we need to revive a similar thread. Yes, that thread was glorious. Mainly because BF.net has been such a great community of level-headed Brewer fans for so long, but on that day we collectively let it fly. Like the quiet guy who all of a sudden loses it...everyone takes notice. I wish it were archived somewhere...
  4. I wasn't around in '82, otherwise I'm sure that'd top the list. Game 6 of the NLCS was the toughest for me. I never really expected us to win it, especially after the Cards started scoring at will. There was just a sense of dread the whole game that you knew it was our one last shot, and with a Prince leaving the window was about to close. I remember sitting in the stands alone as they emptied until one of the ushers asked me to leave. He could obviously tell how dejected I was, cause he said "don't worry, they'll be back," and I thought "not likely anytime soon..." In terms of regular season losses, I don't know that anything tops yesterday. It happens to every team every year, but man this team has found some ways to break our hearts a number of times this year. Don't get me wrong, they've been great, but feels like there have been many more gut wrenching losses than exhilarating victories.
  5. Yea, except half the time you guys "knew it was coming" it didn't. Which is why they're still in the playoff hunt. Don't get me wrong, they've been great and exceeded expectations. But when was the last time they gave up a late lead then snatched it back? Or their record in extras? They've outperformed expectations and yet lost so many games they could've won, I'd argue many more than they managed to win in a situation like tonight
  6. Haha hope all the posters that hate this team just leave the board now
  7. Can't remember a Brewers team that so consistently lost in heartbreaking fashion every time you knew it was coming
  8. Can tell Braun wants a huge hit in this run so badly. I feel the same way.
  9. Jeffress just wanted to make the Cubs use more pitchers. This is genius.
  10. I can't wait until Jacob Barnes and Carlos Torres are no longer Brewers
  11. Has to be, this would be the absolute perfect spot for Hader
  12. I know he's been struggling and I don't really have much confidence...but I don't care this is the guy I want up right now. Cmon Braun!
  13. Almost seems like contreras is pissing the ump off holding every single pitch. Then again, his zone just might be trash
  14. Strop is gonna be embarrassed when he watches the game later and realizes he put his hat on sideways
  15. Almost would've rather Broxton didn't reach so Davies could throw another inning. That is of course unless Jesus jacks one here...
  16. Thames has been our best bat of late and his spot will likely come up again EDIT: except maybe Santana
  17. Win or lose, this has been a tremendous outing by Davies in a spot where the team absolutely needed it
  18. Soul-crushing loss yesterday, bullpen absolutely gassed, Cubs getting their ace back today, based on what we've seen all year seems pretty obvious what the inevitable outcome of this one will be... 8-2 Brewers win
  19. The stage could not be set more perfectly for the most epic sweep in Brewers history
