  1. Is he though? I mean...yeah. Maybe you prefer pretty good hitter? No he’s not going to get MVP votes but the guy can hit.
  2. Yelich double clutches every single throw to the plate. Great hitter, but how did he win a Gold Glove (don’t answer that, I realize I just answered my own question...)
  3. If you have no more pitchers left then just forfeit and get on the plane. Seriously, what are we doing here? I guess Our AAAA bottom of the order could kick into a run and Lopez pitches two more scoreless, but I’m not banking on it...
  4. It’s amazing the imbalance between the top and bottom halves of our lineup
  5. Need to hurry up and score before Craig puts in our worst reliever (Lopez?). And for the record, I dont disagree with his strategy of not pitching Hader/JJ/Knebel when we are losing
  6. As I understand it - and someone correct me if I'm wrong - visiting athletes pay a prorated amount of income taxes in whichever state they are playing in. So if Bryce Harper plays 3 games in Milwaukee this year, 3/162 (1/54th) of his salary is taxed in/to the state of Wisconsin. Not to mention 1/2 the salaries of our own multimillionaire athletes and full salaries of high ranking team officials being taxed to the state. That is millions in revenue that isn't just shifted from one place to another locally, and would be lost if the team was gone. The Bucks used this as an argument for public funding for their new arena. That said, your other points are valid. At the end of the day though, just like free agency...all it takes is one. If one other city says they'll help pay for your stadium, then it's pay up or lose out. It does appear there is a shift away from cities letting teams hold them hostage though.
  7. We can only hope. Time for billionaire owners and millionaire players to pay for their own damn playgrounds. That goes for Attanasio too. Agreed...but never gonna happen. It's not a question of whether Tampa will pay for it or the Rays will pay for it. It a question of whether Tampa will pay for it or another city will pay for it. Teams and owners footing the full bill will never happen as long as these teams continue generating such huge revenues. And it does make sense, the teams bring huge money to the local economy. So it's supply and demand - teams are in short supply and rarely become available. So if you want to put your foot down and say we won't pay, another city happily will.
  8. IF Jimmy comes back this year...big if... I hope they use him out of the bullpen. We’ve won so many games on the strength of our bullpen, but bemoan the days when Hader/Jeffress/Knebel aren’t available. Since Jimmy likely won’t be going long innings anyway, I think he could make the bullpen even deadlier, on more days and/or for more innings. And come playoff time, if you aren’t beating the Brewers by the 5th...you’re in trouble.
  9. last 2 games? I think he has always been questionable when it comes to his pen use. His rules are pretty simple. If they are tied or up 1-2, use the best relievers you have. If not, use everybody else and save those guys for higher leverage. I actually generally am ok with this strategy. Use the best in games where you have a significant chance of winning. Even down just 1, in the 8th odds are you’re gonna lose even with shutdown relief innings. Especially Hader, don’t waste that on a losses with the hope you’ll pull out one or two out of ten of these games. But...also don’t throw in the towel with your worst reliever just because you’re losing by a run or two...
  10. I generally like Counsell, but I do no understand his strategy of putting our worst reliever in when down by a run or two. Guys like Drake and Zagurski have repeatedly turned winnable games into blowout losses. Every team has lackluster bullpen arms, but these guys should be innings eaters in blowouts and nothing more.
  11. Because baseball is weird, I would put money on one of those teams not making the playoffs. Every year there is a team that totally collapses in the second half. Mariners are currently 23 games over .500 with a run differential of +19... Since they opened up a huge lead over the field, and the rest of the AL is so uninspiring, they likely still make it. But my guess is that 2nd AL Wild Card will become a lot more interesting than it is right now.
  12. Underrated on that caught stealing was the tag by Saladino. He might have been safe but that was as close as it gets, I think many of us assumed he was safe because when he caught it high it appeared there was no way he’d get the tag down.
  13. Random trivia, I'm sure plenty people here know this but many Brewers fans don't: The Brewers of course received a compensation pick from the Yankees when they signed Sabathia. Any other year, this would've been the Yankees first-round pick (#25 overall). However, that offseason the Yankees also signed Mark Teixiera from the Angels to a massive contract. The powers that be determined that Teixiera was the "better" free agent, thus the Angels received that first-round pick while the Brewers instead received the Yankees' supplemental first rounder (#39 overall). The Brewers also had the pick immediately after the Angels at #26. That Angels draft pick at #25? Mike Trout
  14. I understand that perspective from an Indians fan. As a Brewers fan in my mid-20's who thought playoff baseball was a fantasy that wasn't meant for us, and knowing the final outcome...I make that trade 100 times out of 100 without an ounce of regret. If we do ever win the World Series, I legitimately wonder if it will live up to the emotion I felt on the final day of the 2008 regular season.
  15. I am fully expecting a Zagurski vs. Freddy Freeman matchup tonight. And I don't like it.
  16. This. Also, IMO going forward Keon has earned a spot on the MLB roster this week over Domingo until proven otherwise. Yes, Keon strikes out way too much and it drives me nuts, but so does Domingo. However, Keon brings tremendous value as a late inning defensive replacement and occasional instant offense with the bat. I don't want to see him in the lineup everyday, but would be more than happy with him on our bench.
  17. Anyone with insight into what it might actually take to get Dozier? Looks like a great buy-low candidate given his production this year compared to career norms (and thanks to Keon for keeping his numbers down for at least one more day...) If he can be had for a package that leaves out our higher level prospects, I would absolutely love this move.
  18. They need to change the rule to eliminate this stupid split-second off the bag when you clearly beat the tag crap. Yet another way replay is taking away from the game, the spirit of the rule is gone in favor of minute technicalities.
  19. I very much dislike this idea. Shaw is not a middle infielder and never will be. He lacks range but plays a very good 3B. Now you’re taking a guy who’s already scuffling offensively and battling a nagging injury and forcing him to learn a new position mid season that he is just not equipped to play. This isn’t fantasy baseball. We are set at 3B, don’t ruin that. Especially since we’ve already got a 1B playing corner OF and a 2B playing SS. If 2B needs to be solved that badly, go get a 2B.
  20. Oooh this is interesting. I have zero expectation of Jimmy Nelson coming back as an impactful starter this year - coming off a shoulder injury, late season start to his year, certain limited pitch counts once he actually returns. But if you bring him back as Josh Hader 2.0, now you’ve got that kind of weapon twice as often in your bullpen. Would be much more impactful IMO than trying to get him a handful of starts come September with 80-pitch limits.
  21. I honestly think he has been. I stand corrected...as a sub this year (38 PA): .258/.368/.290/.659 Aside from zero power, not too shabby. As a starter (70 PA): .082/.188/.115/.303 Very shabby
