  1. I think this is correct about revenue sharing. The only way to get a salary cap is to change the rules of free agency, which is usually not discussed hand in hand. not likely today, but possible in the future as economic hard times hit MLB like the rest of the country. Changing FA would not change the premise of allowing players to have movement after x # of years, but possibly change the # of years with some adjustment to arbitration, combined with a more 'slotted' salary range during the arby years. This would help control payroll increases without limiting what FA could make. Additionally, revisions would have to be made in the 'ranking 'of FA for draft pick reimbursement, along with changes in that reimbursement--perhaps with the team losing the FA being able to pick a player from the signer off a protected roster list, vs. the draft pick ( or in lieu of). now granted, this type of change may discourage some signings, but it would not prevent them
  2. Jack Brickhouse and his famous--"HEY,HEY" flashing on screen at the same time. Chris Mortensen---back,back,back,back....it could ..go..all..the..way of course Uecker and--get up, get up, get outta here...GONE!
  3. agree 1000% on Bando--we are just now escaping his shadow. the % for staying on should be raised or format changed--there are at least 3-4 glaring ommisions from the Braves, and possibly another 3-4 from the Crew who may be considered shoe ins.
  4. if the Brewers don't have it, and it looks like they don't, they should impliment a minimum % to stay on the ballot (like MLB HOF voting), then we might see some players added, instead of having players listed who clearly do not belong on ballot. and why not get the fans involved using some formula with % weighted to the panel, writers, and fans.
  5. I'm looking forward to seeing a big slot machine in RF, right next to the Citgo gas pump. Seriously, this is with Bud Selig's blessing??? with his concerns about image? and professional BB,FB,BB can't get into Vegas? let alone to be sponsored by a casino? Personally I find this to be weird and confusing. What's next--the Chicago Bears presented by Harrahs Casino? or, the New York Jets presented by the Trump Taj Mahal?
  6. strikeouts are ok if the batter has a decent .obp see burrell, and others. big K totals bring a team down, and do have a major affect in runs scored--look at mike jacobs vs jim thome as example. when men are on base, things can happen. when cameron is before hall, before kendall--not much will happen. the K is the same as any out is wrong, and this years brewers are a perfect example.
  7. as long as neddy is trying to get everyon some ab's--counsel, durham today--what about rivera for kendall? give rivera 2 starts in a row, he may be needed. and kapler for cameron. russell should definately be starting over counsel. and no suspension for prince?
  8. Maybe this belongs in the silver lining--but the good news from the beating Princey gave to Manny is that we all forgot the Crew lost the game and has lost 7 of last 10 games. Perhaps this distraction is just whay the Brewers need. By the way as a season ticket holder and taxpayer who helps pay for Miller Park--I am invested in the team and deserve better answers to a situation like this. I hope more comes from this in terms of an apology from Princey. And good grief--Yost sounds goofy some times. Frustrated with questions? He is paid for that as part of his job. Looking for a peer to Yost on this?? Check out Giardi from the Yankees, he is so superior in post games to Yost it's not even close. Lastly--what would be being said about Princey and Neddy if Fielder did thiss to Sheets or Suppan?? They've given up big innings--so why Parra? I think Prince has something personal here, and not the heat of the moment as many here seem to think. And if that is the case, Fielder needs to sit out at least 3 games for a lack of leadership/immaturity and grow up quite a bit.
  9. Neddy says--you know, the guys are out there battling ... Seriously now--this is how players get labeled. Is Prince a hot head? Is he more worried about himself than his team/teammates? The news of this from the team the next couple of days, or Prince himself, will go along way to softening the impressions of Prince. Or turning him into a Sheffield type. (combined consecutive posts --1992)
  10. luke--yes to the distancing thing, while more importantly staying right there with the cubs for the division lead. now we are nowhere near having a 'stranglehold' on the WC--wth 2 more teams in it from the east in it, and the cards--and sadly have lost 5 games to the cubs (in standings) in 5 days. that will be tough top make up. as far as neddy goes--he gets credit and blame for all things the brewers do. we'll just have to disagree as to the level of responsibility he has when things dont add up to a win, or a 1-6 home stand.
  11. lukevan--I said "all the talk was about the stranglehold we were going to have on the wildcard", in regards to the 7-0 roadtrip, coming back to MP, and the fact that we were looking towards first place and that the wild card would be an afterthought with all the momentum we were building. Has all that changed in one week--yes, since the NL East has crept back in the picture, in large part to our 1-6 homestand. I love rollercoasters, but not one with Ned Yost steering it.
  12. More fuel on the fire (ned Yost). We were 1-6 on the homestand-losing 5 in a row. These were divisional games....... Yes these are proffesional athletes and coaches, but they must absolutely be feeling the pressure. Maybe some home cooking in Atlanta will make a difference, and clear up Ned's head. This is definately starting to feel like last year. Marc Newfield--completely agree.
  13. Nice post Geno--you have given a detailed accounting that many Brewer followers feel. As for the we have the second best record/ there is still alot of baseball to play crowd---open your eyes and look at the standings! The NL East has caught up. The second place Mets are 8 games over and the Marlins are 7 games over. The Crew is 11 games over. One week ago all the talk was about the stranglehold we were going to have on the wildcard. If this trend continues--and Geno has pointed out that the history is once again starting to repeat itself--in 2 weeks we may be talking about how this season got away. But by gosh we're still out there battling everyday. I have been largely quiet over the past several weeks, being optimistic about the Brewers as they have made a run. And hoping to see a continually improving bunch of decisions by the manager. But after witnessing this homestand, especially starting with the Suppan meltdown, I have to admit that Yost does not have magic touch, in fact at critical decision times he has no touch at all. So will this be the second year in a row that a playoff spot slips away? Even as Yost points out that we are playing now for a "dress rehersal for September". C'mon people- that may be the absolutely dumbest thing a baseball manager has ever said.
  14. Well, Neddy finally has a pitcher brush back/send message to Cubs (Gagne to Edmonds) in last inning of last game vs Cubs---UNBELIEVABLE. Neddy--go back and read some books on how to manage.
  15. --------------------------------- I have been saying this for the last couple years. Another well timed move by Yost--this should have been done by Benny in game 2, not last inning of last game.
  16. I believe it's real. Just not in baseball. Now football and basketball are a much different story. --------------------------- the Rockies did not have momentum at the end of last year? of course it exists in baseball.
  17. The problem I belive the Brewers are having now is an overall lack of leadership, from Yost to the players. 1. Yost. This man has little sense of timing concerning his pitchers, especially the recent use of Jeffy, Benny, and Manny. Now when Neddy does something incredibly stupid like leave Soup in for a 7 run inning, or Benny giving up 7 straight hits with no mound visit--this will definately have an effect on the players, which I believe is a negative. Done once or occasionally, it probably would have minimal impact. Done 3 games out of 4, it may have serious side effects. Combined with well discussed situations over the last couple years, this leaves plenty of room to doubt his in-game management skills by fans and players alike. one more thought on Neddy--Has he ever heard of brushing a batter back? or knocking them down? What a nice guy/team we have. 2. Players. Cameron and Hall batting .227 each, go 0 for 7 between them with four K's between them. Leaders in the clubhouse??? Hogwash. Who is doing it on the field when it needs to be done? We are in close proximity to a crisis situation and the players better start getting it done, specifically putting the bat on the ball when runners are on base. Is this team ready to win? The players are going to have to step up and do it, because the man at the helm is asleep at the wheel at times.
  18. sunday with suppan giving up 7 runs in one inning vs astros 7/27 qualifies here. getting outmanaged by pinella and the cubs (or anti-managing by yost) in the first 2 games may qualify as a game.
  19. the rythm thing continues to haunt me---do you have to watch in the stands or on TV to see the obvious?
  20. 7 hits, but still in the pitch count. reminds me of sunday with the 4-1 lead that turned into 4-8 in one inning. why, oh why?
  21. Am I totally amazed at the complete lack of managerial skills displayed by Ned Yost over the last 4 games?--including sheets tonight? No trips to the mound, keeping a starter in to get torched, no attempt to change the rythm of the game........ and watching the pitch counts vs. the flow of the game--we do have a 25 person roster (or should i say 25 man)? Playoffs--not like this.
  22. surfer--some guys just have manlove for branyan, and have a hard time being objective about the 3b situation. hall has more upside, pretty obvious. branyan is a below average role player. he's played for 6 (including 2x for bbrewers) teams over 9 years and has never had more than 380 ab's. he's only had over 300 ab's twice and over 200 ab's in 4 years. maybe the other mlb teams he has played for saw something to limit his play or release him. i'd rather have troy glaus than either hall or branyan.
  23. the strike zone for last night-friday-was horrible. mlb better go back to robots or do something else. moofnelson is right--it is like the nba--except even more subjective. how can every ump have "his own style" or "his own strike zone"? it is amazing there is as much scoring as there is.
