  1. i lkie bill hall at ss, and i would guess other teams do as well--so, either he or hardy need to be traded. i prefer hall at ss, he hit 35 bombs when he played there everday. 2009 1b-fielder (after his offseason to get back in shape) 2b-weeks (now batting in the 6 spot in the batting order) ss-hall 3b-gamel of-braun, hart, laporta
  2. the guys are out there battling, being competitive. i know (ned) that every one of these guys shows up every day to battle! and i would be proud to go to battle with anyone of these guys. give credit to the other team--they showed up and battled us, and they were competitive.
  3. pro players in other major sports do not seem to go through major body type changes like prince appears to have, especially at this young age. vegan or not, it appears that he is eating his weight up the scales. mlb baseball, because of the length of the season, may have more statistical swings than other sports. but like it or not, prince flat out appears to be way out of shape.
  4. worst--getiing sal bando. when we had don money. most worst--putting sal bando in the front office. best--firing sal bando from front office. most, most worst--hiring sal bando's brother to coach 3rd base.
  5. glad you added to it. why not say the brewers are "seriously challenged by out of town series"? or "the brewers have a problem with sweeping"?
  6. gagne may yet be of good use to the brewers--if he can be really/is healthy. unfortunately this has a smell to it that the organization may be hiding something about him. and i agree that a haircut and shave (maybe into a nasty gotee) would help.
  7. weaver, mclung, jackson.....i say give them a chance. if the cardinals can catch lightning in a bottle, why not the brewers. certainly what has been happening so far could use a bit of improvement. i just hope this doesn't turn into a 'why didn't we keep this guy' or why didn't we do this' kind of a thing. these are highly paid ball players and staff (notice i did not say professionals), and someone should be able to step it up. this is so unbelievable that we can not have one or more players step up/show improvement/surprise us with the great story, regarding our pitching. and yes i know gallardo is hurt--so what. how many guys do we have in the minors. or sign a guy like livan hernandez. wow---i am so frustrated by this team.
  8. i believe that maybe 3/4 of the threads here end up in some sort of venting fashion. over expectations for this season, combined with too many years of miserable play may account for this--the brew crew has finished in 2nd place once since the 1992 season and 3rd place in their division 4 times since 1992, forgetting about their record. winning may help curb some of the negative posts.
  9. prince looks fatter/heavier/carbohydrate challenged for sure. i think he looks at least 10-15 pounds heavier since spring training and 25-30 pounds heavier since last year. his fielding is definately worse since last year. tonight he looked like a pig in his uniform at pittsburg. and any uniform adjustment does not help--what is he 23/24 years old? my gosh, wait until he is 27 and his contract is up. maybe boras can get him on that nutri-system diet before then.
  10. i believe the momentum we are looking for comes from confidence in themselves and teammates, players knowing their roles, and believing that there is no adversity that cannot be overcome. lineup the stars with those factors, throw in a few home games, and keep your fingers crossed that the manager can throw fuel on this fire --and away they go. i remember the momentum of the 13 game winning streak to start that season--it was almost surreal.
  11. i think melvin has done a slightly above average job for landing talent. ---i do not like at all any way the gane signing. many closers emerge every year throughout MLB. total waste of money to be spent elsewhere. ---i think the brewers bench players are below average, and do not give any sense of urgency that a starter may lose his job. weak bench. the minor league system is static right now, except for laporte. yes, a strong draft may be on the way, but immediate help to the bigs seems to be non-existent. trading seem to be his strong suit, except for linebrink, but it was an attempt to help when needed overall grade--C+, maybe B- with a big grading curve. the thing is other franchises get better, win, then get torn apart, and rebuild again, and get better--oakland, cleveland, florida, come to mind--all mid type markets. this prolonged slump since 1992, or 1982 (take your pick for your starting point) is really getting tiring. so i say, melvin is definately on the hotseat until this franchise wins...wins something, anything other than a sausage race. the brewers have to win at least as many games as last year or melvin is gone for sure.
  12. No. They will show flashes to tease, but this is not the year. And the NL Central will be tougher next year.
  13. yes we are overreacting. we overreacted when we were 24-10 last year. wasnt there world series talk? we overreacted when we blew the 8 game lead. yost is bad, but isnt this a young, learning, battling team? we overreacted this off season we melvin rebuilt the bullpen, and when we had 8 starters it was all the rage to predict who would get traded, or sent to the bullpen or AAA. we overreacted with our predictions for the season, and player performance. we are NOT overreacting to the possibility that if things do not change quickly, like the next 7-10 days, we will be faced with a mangerial change, the real potential for another losing record and long playoff drought continuing. we are currently 5 games from first place and 2-1/2 games from last.
  14. this is right jazzy, and it has been a creeping, growing problem over the this and last season.
  15. how do yo rate bill hall's year at shortstop compared to hardy? (edit: long quote --1992)
  16. the mutiny on the bounty has begun in earnest. the cracks in the structure are showing. the brewers with yost are one can short of a 6-pack. we only have one oar in the water. help me with more of these.... but the kids are still battling, darn it.
  17. The funny thing is that August was a complete meltdown, and all we heard the entire time was "We're still in 1st place!". Everyone was waiting for the turnaround when we reclaim a big lead in the division and march into October. But it never happened. Then this year was supposed to be the year. And we're all waiting for the turnaround. I would love to think it's gonna happen, but until I see at least a flicker, how are we supposed to believe it will ever come? as nektar said, tomorrow never comes. we've been waiting for moses for a long time. and i know ned yost...and he is no moses. (apologies to d.quayle)
  18. yost will be fired after the sunday may 18 game in boston--monday is an off day. otherwise it will be after the wed june 7 game--thursday is an off day.
  19. i would make this trade immediately. improves the mix of brewers and gives a real proven producer in the height of his career. this is a no brainer.
  20. would this be a good move for the brewers to get an established leadoff hitter? i read today that his name is still floating out there. could rickie weeks be traded straight up for him? toss in a zach jackson with it. i would love to see the brewers make this move.
  21. we have a yost dilema here--play just good enough to be over .500 and appear to be competitive and keep ned around all year, with a continued near daily dose of yostings happening all around us vs. a legitimate one week team slump to get us under .500 and show ned the door. oh wait. we are over .500 only 3 weeks into the year, so give ned a break. after all, look how well he managed last year after the 24-10 start. no yostings were sighted last year were there? really now, roster decisions and in game decisions can be difficult at times, but ned yost just has a way of creating these little controversies all the time. just like i'd like to see the brewers start hitting, i'd like to see yost display a golden touch more often. until then--it's open season.
  22. add cameron and gwynn, move turnbow and gross. until then, this 14 man staff may cost us another game or two, just like it did last night. pretty dumb. retro sheets back on the DL and get on with the season.
  23. If there is a save situation today, who would you use? (eliminated unnecessary quoted material --1992)
  24. I don't mean to single you out, but it's frustrating that comments like this are still made. --why? this is a fan forum, and ned is fair game. You know that when Maddux picks up the phone, calls out to the pen, he asks Castro..."Is so and so available today?" Depending on response, decisions are made. --these decisions are made in pre-game meetings. they know which 'so and so' is available on a day to day basis. that call from maddux is telling castro to get specific pitchers warmed up.
