  1. Ricky Weeks looks comepletely lost. I'm not saying give up him. Is this just referring to this spring? I don't think we need to worry about "Ricky" Weeks. 2007: .235/.374/.433 There's a whole thread in Major League Forum saying that there's no reason to worry. It's spring training. Brandon Inge is the guy. Don't entirely look at the numbers. Leyland loves him. He's the consumate pro. First, we have plenty of gritty battler veterans around here for Ned Yost to utilize. And Jim Leyland loves Brandon Inge, consumate pro? "Inge, 30, didn't hide his frustration during a telephone interview Monday -- "I'm not happy about it," he said multiple times -- but said he would accept the reduced role. "I want to play as much as possible," Inge said. "I can't stand sitting on the bench. I don't care if it's third base, first base, catcher, outfield -- if anyone needs a day off, I want to get as many at-bats as I can. "Detroit is where I've been, and it's where I want to be. I didn't ask for this. I was ecstatic when I signed a four-year contract (after the 2006 season). ... Now I've been forced into a situation that's not very good, but I'm going to try to make the best out of it." Link to this story
  2. Mark Prior Year, Ag, Tm, Lg, W, L, IP 2003 22 CHC NL 18 6 211.3 2004 23 CHC NL 6 4 118.7 2005 24 CHC NL 11 7 166.7 2006 25 CHC NL 1 6 43.7 Now this, of course, is the extreme example. What I meant in the original post was that he shouldn't be subjected to a crazy, Dusty Baker-style workload that damages him long-term.
  3. Parra is so valuable that he should not be in the opening day rotation. I just did a fist pump when I read that. Perfect line. It will take some work and some creativity but they can do it. I don't trust Ned Yost to limit Manny's innings. I'd be way too afraid that he'd find out how good he is- and then wreck him with long starts in May, June, and July. The Yankees are doing the same with Hughes, the Red Sox with Buchholz Hughes pitched quite a bit in the majors last year. The Red Sox have Terry Francona- who, unlike Yost, I would trust with a young pitcher.
  4. Extremely impressive. Let us know when they're all available.
  5. Yeah, in 05 and 06 he was hitting 89 very consistently.
  6. Second, I don't see how Gallardo is an injury risk? One injury in your career does not make you an injury risk. Trading Suppan would eventually lead to a rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Villy, Parra, and Bush or Capuano. I don't necessarilly consider Yovani an "injury risk", but he is only 22 and I heavily doubt anyone in the organization wants him over 200 innings this year. Parra is scheduled for about 160. We all know about Sheets's injury problems. It probably sounds like I'm being pessimistic here about the durability of the rotation. I'm more just trying to illustrate that Suppan does have value to this team this year.
  7. I just feel he has the more value for some other team than the Brewers and he would free up a spot in the rotation First of all, Suppan isn't a guy a team would want to pick up unless the Brewers would pick up most of his salary. Which would defeat the point entirely. Second, to 'free up a spot' would likely mean a spot for Bush or Capuano. I think Suppan is just as good as both of them. And if you are eventually going to go with a rotation including Sheets, Gallardo, Villy, and Parra, I think that having an "innings eater" like Suppan isn't a bad deal. All of them except Villy have to be considered injury risks at this point.
  8. I would absolutey love to have Vargas in the rotation until Yovani comes back- and then make him one of the best long relievers in the Major Leagues. He could then be the go-to guy in case of an inury in the starting rotation. If anyone in the bullpen would struggle in a setup role, I still believe Vargas could move a middle relief or even a setup role and be very good there- kinda like Villy last season. Of course, this scenario would involve moving Bush or Capuano. But that might be the best option, because both could probably get better prospects than Vargas in a trade- and I like Vargas as a releiver and temporary starter much more than either of those two, just because of their tendencies and pitching styles. I think Bush and Cappy have value only as starters.
  9. He isn't pretty but he is far from ugly. That's a nice line. I would still rather have him out there than Bush or Capuano. They're cheaper, of course, but it's not like you can just dump Suppan.
  10. 6. Torres (No Juice) What are you referring to here? I'm not aware of Torres ever being linked to PEDs, if that's what you mean. And I understand your point about Capuano- but I'm not sure if "head case" is the right way to describe it. Some better ways to say it might be "lost it", "unlucky", or "cursed".
  11. Vargas looked good, but his velocity seemed a little bit lower than usual... that could just be a product of spring training. Jim Powell said he didn't like the catcher batting ninth at all. TV play-by-play was all right. Plenty of references to "gritty" players. However, I did catch one wierd comment from Bill about base coaches wearing helmets- it seemed like he was against it, or something, and asked why the umpires didn't have to wear them, and then said that the umpires were happy that they didn't have to wear them. Fielder's homer made me pretty happy. That was a bomb. I'm pretty pumped to have Riske on the roster as well. I'd take him over Linebrink any day, and his contract is smaller.
  12. Wonder if they might be interested to trade Burnett for Cappy and Vargas They would need more than that- it would probably be Capuano and two good prospects- possibly someone like Gamel. It would be a long shot, but I think it would be pretty sweet to have Burnett if he could be had for only Cappy and a decent prospect or two- I think it'd be an interesting gamble, and probably worth it.
  13. Too bad to hear that. Hopefully it isn't a major issue, because as we learned with Koskie, Post-Concussion Syndrome can be a bad, long term problem. Hopefully the 25 game "rest" will help him out a bit. The article doesn't make it sound like too big of a deal, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.
  14. I wasn't necessarilly advocating the 2/3 lineup, just wondering why the reasoning changed. I agree, the Braun 2, Fielder 4 combo would probably be the way to go- with Cameron inbetween, probably.
  15. Here's the quote to confirm my previous post: "Yost's reasoning is that he wants Braun to have more plate apperances, but still be able to have guys on in front of him. So with Kendall's ability to see pitches and get on base, it would essentially translate to Braun still batting third while racking up about 40 more plate appearances, as stats show. In this lineup, Prince Fielder would bat third in the order, but it would be like having him in the clean-up slot." Not even a mention of the Double-Play factor.
  16. It will interesting to see if Ned really sticks with batting the catcher ninth That's part of the reason I'm surprised this has gone this far. "Casual" fans who don't fully understand the math behind the decision are going to be upset when there are two on, two out and the pitcher comes up batting eighth. On the positive side, it could turn a few of them against Ned... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Wasn't the main original purpose of the Kendall batting ninth idea to move Braun up to the 2 hole and hit Fielder 3rd, followed by Hart or Cameron? That would add plate appearances for the two best hitters and keep their RBI opportunities intact. If they're actually committed to trying to tinker and add runs over the course of the season, why are they getting rid of that idea now?
  17. I think we can assume that either Dave Bush or Chris Capuano will be making about 30 starts for the Brewers this year. The question is, if you could only choose one of them, which one would you rather have? You can factor in trade value, money, or whatever you'd like. I'd prefer Capuano. I think the Brewers can afford to take the risk that he rebounds and has a nice year because of their depth. I believe his numbers will improve plenty and he'll be one of the best #5 starters in the game. Bush probably has more trade value at this point, as well.
  18. That happens every spring training, or so it seems.
  19. The email he sent me: "Thank you for writing. I can assure you that my future articles will adhere to your edict, as my past ones do. The Brewers article was written in an experimental style, that for the most part, has had readers who took it too seriously emailing me generic insults. I apologize if you found the article insulting. That said, I stand by the points made in the article, if the style itself was unecessarily inflammatory. I am ready to defend any of the statements I made with statistics if you would like. ~Keith Glab"
  20. Just one more refresh... Sounds like a good T-Shirt idea to me.
  21. Braun is more likely to be a Brewer long term than Prince, so I'd go with him. Wouldn't it be nice to see this state recognize a Brewer a little bit? Maybe it's because I live in Appleton, but the Brewers get no credit for anything up here.
  22. Is MLB 2K8 the only baseball game for Wii, or did MLB 08 publish a Wii version too?
  23. 2005: 18 wins, 219 Innings, 176/91 K/BB Ratio, 3.99 ERA2006: 11 wins, 221 1/3 Innings, 174/47 K/BB Ratio, 4.03 ERA I'm not saying that Capuano should be given a free pass, but he certainly deserves a fair chance to win a spot in the rotation. I think if they just let him pitch a bit and he gets that stupid win in early April, he'd be fine for the rest of the year. I understand people's frustration with him, but I wouldn't bash him. To have him as an option at a #4 or #5 starter is absolutely fantastic. And if last years' struggles turn into long-term problems, action can be taken then. There are plenty of other starters that can take his place in the rotation if need be.
  24. I sent him an email, and he sent one back- it included a line saying that he was sorry if his story offended anyone, but he stood by his opinions. I guess I give him a little credit for responding, but still. That 'article' was just a pathetic attempt to generate publicity.
  25. Is that the Tuiasosopo, M. the same guy that played NFL football? His brother Matt Tuiasosopo sighting! He logged a season or to with the Timber Rattlers (a Mariners affiliate) in Appleton, I'm sure any other poster from Appleton remembers him.
