  1. Fast forward a month, the Brewers are somehow hanging around .500, and the Astros are still gosh awful. Would they take Bush/Narveson, Gamel (hopefully playing), Solame, and a low level prospect for Oswalt?
  2. I agree with Sheethead. Also, one thing about hoffman is he has no effective breaking ball. His slider doesn't even look like a slider. Although that may have always been the case. But hitters are just sitting on his change and his fastball and the result is batting practice. The causes of a pitcher to be "done" are many and sometimes not easily diagnosed. However, at the of 43 it just may be natural causes.
  3. How about one for the back end of the bullpen; Schlemiel........Schlimazel....
  4. I may not be demoralized yet but extremely frustrated at the way the situation sets up for the Brewers. The exorbitant amount of money committed to some aging, worthless pitchers is essentially blocking some younger, better pitchers from being on the team. It is maddening when you know they are not putting the best team possible out there.
  5. At some point a player is just done. It doesn't necessarily have to happen during the offseason. He's 43 and his arm is dead. Add his dead arm and his 8M to the 30M of dead money spent and this team is dead. Did I mention I'm a dead head.
  6. From the right side of the plate, a little like Charlie Moore.
  7. Why keep Villy over Braddock?
  8. This won't happen but this is what I would like. 1) Escobar 2) Edmonds 3) Braun 4) Fielder 5) Weeks 6) McGehee 7) Zaun 8) pitcher 9) Gomez
  9. 92 - 70 wildcard birth. The team stays healthy, Axford and Braddock contribute to the pen in the 2nd half, and the rotation is solid under Petersons' tutelage.
  10. I think Higuera is the best SP we ever had, albeit a relatively short period of time. In his prime, he had stuff, command, and he knew how to pitch.
  11. Last year he commented on his success and attributed it to a modified batting stance and a new workout regiment. If he was unable to continue that program, I'm a little concerned.
  12. First of all I think Bradley would have to undergo a psychological evaluation. If he is declared sane enough to stand the trial of a baseball game, I would make the trade.
  13. It seems as though several posters think it's a given that Casey's stats will decline. Don't forget it wasn't until last year that he changed his stance to a Pujols type wide stance. Not to imply by any stretch that he is in the same stratisphere as Pujols, but maybe he's onto something.
  14. This may be a bit over the top but not knee-jerk. If Kendall does come back I will not renew my 20 pack for next year. Right now that's the only thing I can think of that would keep me from doing it. I'm close to adding a few things to the list but I'm not there yet. Such as; if Melvin is back next year, or if they don't acquire some young arms with upside.
  15. I don't agree with this post at all. Melvin has to take the fall for the state of pitching in the organization whether it was Jack Z's fault, injuries, small market woes, whatever. He was in charge and he failed over the fast several years to get high ceiling prospects from the draft or the players we traded. And I wouldn't call that a decent rotation since it's not much different than what we put out there this year. I'm not sure Gamel or Escobar would bring an established #1 or #2 major league starter either.
  16. I think Cam has been better than I thought. Great leader, excellent fielder, and just a quality dude. However, I am for the Brewers pooling all possible resources to throw an offer at Prince. 6M doesn't seem like much, but maybe that will equal about 5% of Fielder's 5 yr. extension. (potentially). I've stated this before - keep Braun and Fielder and get by as inexpensive as possible with the rest of the position players. That group could still be pretty good.
  17. I just don't understand the direction of this team and what it's trying to accomplish.
  18. Not to be the nay say-er, but I predicted bad things for this team on this site before the season started. And suggested this would be DM's last year because to the state of pitching in the organization. I'm not enjoying myself because I don't know what the direction of the team is. Any chance we had to sell players is past us. And questions remain about the method of acquiring pitching. I get the impression, being competitive and not going for a championship is a goal that makes the most business sense in the mind of Mark A. We as fans will always think there is a chance because of the 05 Cardinals, when realistically it's rare. However, that could backfire if the fan base wants more than a club that hovers around .500. Take Braun or Fielder out of the lineup, and you instantly have problems on the offensive side. So trading either shouldn't be an option IMO. 2.8 was the apparent break even point with an 80M payroll. Is 2.8M in attendance attainable if they trot a similar team out there next year? I doubt it. My guess is if they keep DM, he'll do his best to acquire bottom of the rotation SP with the Hart, Hardy, and McGehee's, fill the bullpen with reclamation projects and point to several factors of why the Brewers were unsuccessful this season, but shouldn't of been. Alas, we will still be mathematically alive in August 2010.
  19. 2B Lopez (if they can get him for 7M or less) CF Weeks RF Braun 1B Fielder LF Dunn 3B Gamel C Salome/Rivera SS Escobar Good balance; Against lefties, 5® 3(L), against righties, 4® 4(L). Good speed (escobar, lopez, weeks, and braun), Good power (2,3,4,5, and possibly 6). And should be better overall OBP. Trade Hart or Hardy + prospect for Dunn Trade McGehee, Hart/Hardy for a high ceiling pitching prospect no lower than AA. Rotation; Yo, Parra, Tim Hudson (one year, take a flier), Bush, Soup Pen; the usual suspects (keep Coffey, Stetter, Defilece, fill the rest out with youth in our own system; Jeffrees, Wooten, Braddock, Dillard, whoever, take a chance) Bench; Kapler, Catalanotto, Counsel, Heether.
  20. This looks as bad or worse than this year.
  21. This makes sense. But I would try to include someone other than Hardy. I think Cinci may be interested in Hall at SS. Imagine doing this trade and Hardy+ for Bucholtz. Then we would have; Yo, Harang, Bucholtz, Parra, Arroyo/Bush.
  22. Why, because they might win 3 in a row? Or because Rivera is fatigued from starting so many games this year?
  23. And now Kendall will start the next two. Macha is contradicting himself IMO. On one hand he says the players make out the lineup themselves in which case Rivera would continue to play. On the other hand, Kendall is going to start because he is 10 for 13 against Mueller and he's hitting .386 against whoever is pitching for the Astros on Sunday. I hate small sample statistics that may have taken place over who knows how long of a period of time. Now if Kendall goes 0 for his next 8 against Mueller he will still get starts because he will still be batting close to .500. The more meaningful and current statistic would be that Rivera is hitting .500/.666 OBP over his last three games with 8 RBI. Which is as many RBI that Kendall has had in his last 32 games.
  24. I don't want to see any pitcher at the lower levels traded for Davis.
  25. One of the things that bothered me was that he even mentioned injuries to Soup and Bush. They have combined for 8 wins in 35 starts. The equivalent of one starter for an entire year. You can't chalk up 8 wins to bad luck, or lack of run support, or any other excuse. The fact that they can't even equal the "8 win" talent level with replacements is what is alarming. It's not as though soup and bush were pitching deep into games either. They taxed the bullpen more than the IRS.
