  1. Not to change the subject, but how exactly is that ironic?
  2. The only way the Brewers are getting a middle of the rotation starter for around 7 million is in a trade. Free agent pitchers are ridiculously priced, unless they are coming off of an injury, or had a terrible year. That is one of the biggest reason that I think the Brewers should sign Cameron even if it is for 9-10 million guaranteed, which I dont think it will be. The production Cameron gives you, is worth more wins than any free agent pitcher you are going to get for that kind of money.
  3. I see absolutley no way the Giants would even considering giving up Bumgarner for Gamel, or Escobar. Yes they need hitting, but Bumgarner looks like a future ace, teams just do not give up that kind of a player unless they are blown away.
  4. You are not maximizing either Gamel, or Green's value by moving them to first base. Gamel would be an average first baseman offensivley at first, whereas at third he could be in the top 3, and Green just does not have the bat for it to even be really considered. I am not opposed to the Brewers giving him some time over there, because I see him as a utility player in the long run.
  5. Outside of a trade, the only free agent catcher, who is in my opinion clearly a better option then Kendall is Ramon Hernandez. Personally I would prefer to see the Brewers pick up Bard, or Castro who will be cheap, and have a little more upside than Kendall. However it is not out of the question that he comes back, because of how weak the catching market is.
  6. Macha cant start McGehee over Gamel, if he is not on the team. It is a shame that the Brewers cant have a deep bench because Macha has absolutley no patience with young players.
  7. I really do not see the Brewers being content with just getting two picks from Fielder after the 2011 season, thats why I say that 2010 is PROBABLY his last season. Either way that deal most likely will not help us much next season. Do not get me wrong, I would love have Arrieta in our system, he is a good prospect with ace potential. I just think that the Brewers would be better served going after a pitcher that will be starting for us at the start of next season.
  8. In my opinion that is not the right type of deal for either the Orioles, or the Brewers. 2010 is probably Fielder's last year, so in my opinion the Brewers should make a run at it next year. Trading your two of your best trade chips for Arrieta, who probably will not be up until mid-season 2010, possibly not until 2011, will not help us next year. The Orioles on the other hand are a few years away from contending. Their best chance of being a force in the East is to hang onto Tillman, Matusz, Erbe, and Arrieta. Trading Arrieta who has arguably the highest ceiling of those four, for Hardy, and McGehee does not help them much in 3 years.
  9. Yes Cameron in center is worth more than Abreu, and Edmonds who both are sub-par defenders. My point is that these players would have commanded more in past years. Cameron will get more than Abreu, but I do not think he will get double what Abreu got. So something like 7 million, with 2-2.5 in incentives is right around what I expect.
  10. I agree that he will probably not hit around 300 very often, but he really has not been lucky this year. His career BABIP in the minors is .319, this year he has a BABIP of .315, so he is right in line with his career numbers.
  11. I really do not think it is going to take that big of a deal to get Cameron to come back next year. Bobby Abreu got a one year 5 million dollar deal with 1 million in incentives. Jim Edmonds could not find a deal, and then look at older players at other positions, and it is clear that teams are not comfortable handing out alot of guaranteed money to older players. I do not see Cameron costing more than 6-7 million guaranteed, with a couple million in incentives.
  12. McGehee's power numbers are much higher this year than they were in any of his previous years in the minor leagues. His ISO power is 76 points higher this year in Milwaukee than in Iowa. If you compare his numbers this year to his MLE last year, which was his second best minor league season, is where the real big differential is. McGehee's 2008 MLE for Milwaukee was 244/288/341, compare that with his 2009 numbers in Milwaukee of 295/.356/.504, and the difference is huge. I dont think that McGehee is really a 629 OPS hitter, but he also is not a guy that is going to OPS over 850 again. I expect that if McGehee was to start next year he could produce a line of 270/320/410. Which is a respectable enough line from a major league third baseman. The Brewers have a better starting option in Gamel though, we also have Adam Heether who could slide into McGehee's role, and also give us a right handed option at shortstop, without losing much offensivley. That is why McGehee is such a great trading chip, he can start for a few teams, makes the minimum, and we would not lose much production from trading him.
  13. The Brewers did not give Bill Hall that contract with the intention of him sitting on the bench though. As for Casey McGehee, looking at his minor league numbers I dont think it is realistic to assume he will have another 800 OPS season in 2010. McGehee is most likely a very nice right handed utility player making the league minimum, which still makes him a valuable player. Could he repeat this season again next year? Yes, and he could also easily go the other way and regress back to his pre-2009 numbers. There are a few teams out there that are going to be looking for a cheap option at third, or even second base. McGehee is worth more to those teams, than he is to the Brewers who have multiple options throughout the infield. To me if the Brewers can get a good pitcher for McGehee it is a no brainer.
  14. If I was Doug Melvin the first thing I would do is try to work out a deal with Cameron, he is older and supposedly likes it here, both of those factors mean that he is likely to be a bargain. I would also bring back Counsell, as long as he does not cost more than 1.5 guaranteed on a one year deal. Another player I would bring back is Mike Rivera, who is due for his first arbitration As far as free agency I would go after a catcher to go with Rivera, and a a low-risk, high-reward starter, my personal favorite is Justin Duchscherer. Duchscherer was injured all of this year so he should be relativley cheap. Duchscherer had a great 2008 season 141.2 IP with a 2.54 ERA, and good periphals. Before 2008 he was a very good reliever, so he could always pitch out of the pen, if he doesnt make the rotation. Duschserer alone, however will not fix the rotation. I would like to see the Brewers package Hardy, and McGehee for a young starter with potential. Someone like Ricky Nolasco, Clay Bucholz, or Jonathan Sanchez. Other than those moves I would like to see the Brewers give a few hard throwing relievers a shot and see who sticks.
  15. I do not think the Brewers are going to get enough back to make it worth giving up Fielder's 2010 season. Also if the Brewers struggle through the first half next year, the Brewers could just trade him at the deadline and get a deal very close to what we would get this off-season anyway.
  16. I really do not see Cameron costing even 10 million next year. Cameron will be 37 next year, the market this off-season really was quite bad for all players, but especially older players. Abreu who has about a 400 OBP every year got 5 million, and Edmonds could not even find a deal to his liking. I do not see Cameron getting more than 7 million guaranteed, with incentives that could run the contract upwards of 10 million. Personally I cant see any pitcher worth as many games as Cameron playing for anything near 7 million on a one year deal.
  17. Not to change this thread to a discussion about Fielder, but I really doubt that whatever extra return we would get for trading Fielder this year as opposed to next off-season would be worth more than Fielders 2010 season is worth. Teams will still be fighting to get Fielder after the 2010 season, so I do not see the hurry. As for trading Gamel I agree with CheezWizHead, that no player is untouchable. That doesn't mean that the front office should activley pursue trading him. If someone offered up a really good young arm though, I would hope that Melvin would consider it.
  18. I really do not think that Parra is a lock for the rotation next year. The Brewers front office obviously has high hopes for Parra going forward. That however should not, and does not mean that he is penciled into the rotation next year. If the Brewers get a couple of good pitchers in the off-season I think that Parra is the odd man out at the start of the season. Throughout a full schedule you will usually need to use more than 5 pitchers so even if Parra starts out in the pen he will be the first option to fill in for someone.
  19. What was Melvin supposed to say, that he doesn't think we are very good team because our rotation isn't very good. How would that help the team in any way?
  20. I do not see them offering him arbitration though.
  21. I would think that the Rays could get a more impressive package in the off-season for Kazmir. The PTBNL will have too be pretty good for this to make sense to me. Maybe Friedman feels bad about stealing Kazmir, and wants to pay it forward?
  22. I think that the best route for the Brewers to acquire starting pitching this off-season is by way of a trade. I have been trying to come up with some pitchers that will be available this off-season and my list is pretty short. Here is what I have so far. FLA: R.Nolasco, my personal favorite, next year is his first arbitration year, so he will come relativley cheaply for 3 years. ATL: J.Vazquez BOS: C.Bucholz KC: G.Meche, and B.Bannister PIT: P.Maholm SF: J.Sanchez, I wanted to trade Hardy for a package centered around Sanchez, in the off-season. Now I am not sure that he will be available, but they need offense badly, so they should trade some pitching this off-season. Who else could be available besides these guys?
  23. I am moving to Nashville tommorow, and I know there are a good number of people from Nashville on this site because of the sounds. Is there anything I should know about Nashville, I have never actually been there before. Also what are some of the best places to go for a drink or whatever down there? Also are there any strange laws that I need to know about
  24. They had him play 12 games in left field last year. I would imagine that if he looked decent they will give him some work out there again this year.
  25. There really is not much of a difference between AA, and AAA. So I do not think that the brewers sending him down for a few games to fill in says much about how the brewers think of him. I do not think he will be more than a utility player, but if he can put up a major league average line with his versatility in the field he will be very valuable. The brewers would probably have to pay a couple million to a free agent to get that same type of player.
