  1. Is that in left field, or center field. Either way I do not see DeJesus as an upgrade over Cameron. Sure DeJesus is cheaper, but the Brewers still have to pay by giving up players to get him.
  2. I think Gamel could make a very good first baseman, at the same time, I belive he has the ability to be a good third baseman. Gamel is not the prototypical slugging first baseman, and would not have as great a value at first, as he would at third, where he could be star. Moving Gamel at this point, after he has made impressive strides last year would be a mistake. Gamel deserves next year to prove that he can play third effectivley. If he cannot than I would not mind moving him to another position, preferably right field, or another orginazation. If you move him to first base, or another team now, you are giving up alot of potential for a quick fix, at a position that does not need to be upgraded.
  3. I am very partial to Weeks so I would not like the trade, but it does seem like a fair deal for both sides. The Sox fill some holes, and the Brewers get some pitching, which we obviously need. Colby you did however bring up Williams past interest in Hall, which gets me wondering about a deal involving Hall for Vazquez. The Brewers would have to throw in another player, but I think that could be a good deal for us.
  4. If we are going to pick up someone just to fill the hole in the rotation left by Sheets, and Sabathia leaving, there are cheaper alternatives to Garland.
  5. According to Buster Olney, Giles vetoed a deal to oakland as well. "San Diego nearly dealt Giles to Boston and later to Oakland during the season, and it stands to reason that this winter the Padres will approach Giles about waiving his no-trade rights to facilitate a trade out of San Diego. " I had heard about the sox, but Giles declining a deal to oakland is news to me. Oakland does have a truckload of outfielders, but I would have to think Giles could start for them, and he would still be in the same state. That makes me think Giles wants to go to a team where he is a lock to start every game he wants to.
  6. Ken Rosenthal says Cards have offered Ludwick, Schumaker, and prospect Mitchell Boggs. That to me is not a very good deal for either team. Holliday is a step up from Ludwick, but I am not sure how much better he is. Ludwick may not be able to repeat his career year of 08, but with Hollidays road splits I am not so sure that you are getting much better production. From the Rockies perspective, I would want younger players that they can control for a while, esspecially pitchers. To me Boggs is nothing special. I have to belive that there are better deals out there than this.
  7. I would love to have Cruz if he was not a type A free agent. Spending money on relievers is risky to begin with, giving up a first round pick, in my opinion is borderline crazy unless the reliever is someone like K-Rod, or Fuentes. If we are going to spend money on a free agent to close I would be happy with Fuentes as long as the deal is not longer than 3 years. To me the best option would be picking up a couple of high ceiling guys and see how it works out. Some names just off the top of my head that could work would be Lyon, Affeldt, and maybe even Isringhausen if he would agree to an incentive based deal.
  8. Try C-Cap, if he got charged, and it is filed, it should be up there.
  9. The sherrifs that served the warrants baited him outside by blaring music, posing as high school kids. When Cooper got outside, he realized what was going on, so he refused to go with them on trumped up charges. As cooper was walking inside, they shot him. That does not happen every day. As far as him predicting 9/11, you are right, the signs were there. The media was going on and on about Bin Laden in the months leading up to 9/11. That does not change the fact that he had a national audience, connected the dots, and shortly after the attacks he was shot dead.
  10. Jim Marrs is good, so is Bill Cooper. Bill Cooper predicted 9/11 back in May of 2001. He was shot dead by feds shortly after 9/11, years before that he was ran off the road, and lost his leg. That to me means someone wanted him to be quiet. Cooper wrote behold a pale horse, and his website hourofthetime.com is still kept running somewhat. People that make books and movies of this nature, generally just want to get the word out, so you can get alot of their stuff for free. Youtube generally has all the videos on conspiracy theories. Check out prison planet, and matrix of evil by Alex Jones, also freedom to facism by Aaron Russo the guy who made Coming to America.
  11. So does this mean that Montgomery, and Seid are the favorites, since they are getting the first interviews?
  12. While I am not very excited about any of the candidates mentioned, I do not think that the football comparisons are fair. The reason is that, to me anyway, MLB coaching staffs do not have a very big effect on the overall outcome of a season. A coaching staff has an effect, but I do not think a coach will generally win or lose more than 2 or 3 games over a season. In the NFL however, a coaching staff just has so much to do, that a coaching staff will also probably win or lose you 2 or 3 games over a season, which makes a much bigger difference over a 16 game season, as opposed to a 162 game season. As long as the Brewers do not hire a Royster, I think we will be alright. Although it would be nice to get an earl weaver.
  13. If you are bringing in players than anyone is replaceable. The point is you will most likely not get the same production, at that cheap of a price. I am guessing Hart will not get much more than 2.5 million in arbitration. Who is available that can give you the kind of production Hart can, at that price. People saw the end of the season, so that is fresh in their minds. If you believe Hart is going to turn into Bill Hall and fall off a cliff, than I can see wanting to move him. You will not get the best value back for him though, because of his poor second half.
  14. I read this article on Blengino at SABR, and I like what I read. Plus he has a sicilian sounding last name, so he has to be a great guy as well.
  15. I just threw Haydel out there as an example. As far as Bonser not being traded, the twins were rumored to be shopping him pretty aggresivley when they needed to make room for Liriano in late july. They will not give him up for nothing, but with all of their pitching prospects they will have to make room for them pretty soon.
  16. I am not sure if this is the right place for this so please feel free to move it. The Yankees are rumored to be in on both Sabathia, and Teixera. Both are type A's but Teixera might be a little ahead of Sabathia. My question is how are the Brewers compensated if the Yankees sign both of them, and Teixera ends up being ahead of Sabathia.
  17. What do you guys think of taking a flyer on Boof Bonser, for some depth. Bonser would be cheap because obviously he has not pitched very well the last two years. Bonser has had some pretty bad luck this year, when he posted a 5.93 ERA. Bonser had a good K/9 of 7.0, BB/9 of 2.6, and a decent HR rate of 1.16, although his career numbers indicate that will be going up a bit. While his BABIP was .325, and he only left 57.9% on base. I am not saying that he will turn it around, or that I even necesarilly want him. It just seems that he is a decent candidate to turn things around with a change of scenery. If the Brewers fail to get a top of the rotation guy, it might not be bad idea to pick up Bonser, he could be a long man, and if something happens or he is pitching well, you can slot him into the rotation. It would probably only take a mid level prospect, someone like Haydel, and he has one more pre arby year in 2009.
  18. Well he would not be a stopgap, because Jeffress is not close enough to slot him in the rotation for 2010. Not saying that it wont happen, but pitchers are just so hit and miss, and he is still a ways off from being ready for the rotation. I would not mind Johnson coming in however, if the price is right. With older players, esspecially older pitchers with an injury history, you are taking a big risk. Johnson could regress big time, and with his age and durability concern, he could blow his arm out in may or june. If we could get him at say 7 million with incentives, I would not mind him pitching for us. I do however think there are better options, and the Brewers would not be Johnson's first choice. He probably would like a west coast team.
  19. There is not room for Martin and Kendall, if they are bot playing catcher. Sure you could use Marting at third and catcher. The thing is, if Kendall is still here, Martin can only play 35-45 games at catcher, before Kendall starts to become a problem. Martin at third is not worth what it would take to get him.
  20. I do not see the point in trading Hart. It is not like his value is skyhigh right now. The only reason I could see trading him, is if the front office believes that the Hart, we saw in the second half is closer to what he is. It would be selling low on a player that is relativley cheap for the next three years. The Brewers also do not have to move anyone else, but if the right deal came up I dont think anyone should be untouchable. I have a feeling that given the bare market at shortstop the Brewers will get a few very nice offers for Hardy.
  21. According to Joel Sherman, Dodgers catcher Russell Martin is available. I dont think the Brewers would have much interest, given what it would take to get him, and no glaring need at the position, but you never know.
  22. DOA, Volquez does have some durability issues. But given Hamilton past, and the rate of relapse for crack cocaine, Hamilton is just as likely to turn back to drugs, and be out of baseball forever. I am with you though, I like the trade for the Rangers, but I do not think the Reds came out too bad either. Considering that he may not have gotten along with everyone, and they had Bruce coming up.
  23. It is not that I just want to unload our good young players. Shortstops are in very high demand. So to me if we are going to trade Hardy this is the year, otherwise sign him to an extension. I personally do not think Hardy would take an extension at this point, since he is not a lock to be playing shortstop past 2009. I can see both sides of the argument. As far as Sanchez goes, clearly I am higher on him than alot of people, and I said that a prospect would be thrown in. It would be more along the lines of pichardo, matos, tanner, threets, or tanner. Guys that have potential to be high leverage relievers, or backend starters like tanner. The Brewers are not going to get a bumgarner who is a top prospect, and last years 10th overall pick. Sanchez is not a bum, you personally may not like him, but there are alot of GM's who would love to have Sanchez on their team.
  24. No way you get either one of those prospects in the deal. Sanchez is a very good pitcher, you might get a decent prospect like pichardo, or one of their backend type prospects, but not another stud. You are getting 4 years of a potential ace for two years of Hardy.
