  1. I think the exchanging of Jake and Josh wasn't as stupid as you guys make it out to be. The water was relatively calm, they were in survival suits (guys can survive for 24+ hours in them), attached to buoys. I guarantee you Sig and Phil wouldn't do anything that would put those kids in serious danger. It seemed very calculated, choreographed, and much safer than trying to get the boats close enough to bring them over with a crane or something. On Phil Harris: These next few weeks are shaping up to be the most compelling in the history of the series. I know I'm dying for next Tuesday to come around. It sounds like they taped basically everything about Phil's last weeks and will show quite a bit. I also read an article -- probably the same as you Jericho -- that talked about how Phil wanted the camera rolling through even the most personal parts of his failing health. Jake and Josh Harris said there isn't anything they want the discovery channel to omit that has been recorded because they want it to be as real as possible and to tell Phil's story. Also, I think they want it to work as a warning to viewers as to what happens when you live in the fast lane/wreckless as many of those fishermen do.
  2. I like the way Estrada pitches. He seems to have good control on the corners of the plate.
  3. Now that you bring it up, I think that is about where he was before (in the majors), maybe a little faster. I don't think he was in the low 90s. Am I correct?
  4. Yeah, sounds like Capuano is really pitching a solid game. I hope he keeps it up. I would love to see him come back from those injuries and get that changeup over on the outside corner like he used to do so often. EDIT: Those of you that have seen him, does Capuano have his FB back up to the low 90s range where he was before?
  5. A little OT, but what was up with JJ's attitude? I didn't notice anything last year. Were there rumors that he was a clubhouse cancer or something?
  6. I agree with some guy from MLB network (don't know his name) that talked about it. He basically said that stealing signs is part of the game when it is between the lines and inside the fences. When you get outside of that (i.e. coaches relaying signs) that's when it gets to be cheating and too much for my taste.
  7. I guess my Parra needs to go comment should be qualified on how he does this season. He had a nice April, but has been brutal in May. A full season in relief (or close to it) should give us an idea on how he may pan out. Also, there have been piles of guys who have played well at AAA that just couldn't cut it in the majors. See Ben Hendrickson.
  8. I think big changes NEED to be made and I hope they are. This could be my crazy perception, but I feel as though this team has been plagued by the same issues holding it back for the last few years. Hitting is very inconsistent (inexplicably bad against finesse pitchers and kids that just get called up from the minors), the starters are borderline awful except for one guy (Sheets --> Gallardo) although Bush has started the last few years strong, the "tweaks" that Melvin keeps making to the bullpen don't work out (Gagne, Riske, Hawkins, etc.). One thing that will be nice, however, is freedom that will come next season from the terrible contracts of Suppan and Hall. I want to throw things at the TV everytime I see Suppan out there working this 2-seam FB over the middle of the plate at 85mph. For a guy whose success is necessitated on control, he has surprisingly little. I think Parra needs to go. He is a guy that has the stuff, but not the mental makeup to pitch in the majors. Honestly (and as much as I love the guy), the Brewers should trade Prince Fielder for some young arms. This team has a ways to go with the pitching staff before it can contend, so there is no reason to pay a guy $20+ million right now. If the team could net a #2 or #3 starter and some nice pitching prospects, that would be awesome. Position players to for sure keep: Braun, Weeks, McGehee, Escobar, Gomez (so cheap and no real options), Counsell (if he wants to stick around), Inglett, Edmonds/Gerut maybe Position players that could go: Hart (getting expensive for his production), Fielder (if some nice pitching prospects could be netted in return), Zaun Pitchers to keep: Gallardo, Bush, Narveson, Villanueva, Wolf, Coffey, Stetter, Hawkins (if he can get arm issues sorted out) Pitchers that need to go: Parra, Hoffman, Riske, Suppan, Davis, Vargas (yes I realize some of these guys are in the last years of their contracts) This isn't exhaustive, but just some ideas off the top of my head. This team has been floating around the .500 mark for the past few years and doesn't seem to be getting any better. Rather than piddle around there, I think Melvin and co. should retool and give it a go with some different guys. Sorry for the novel http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. The most surprising thing in that video is the face that people still use CRT monitors (the "investigative" journalist dude had one). 2000 much?
  10. That is terrible coaching at 3b. NO reason to send him there with Prince coming up...
  11. There are people selling tickets all throughout downtown by the stadium. No idea what the pricing will be like from the scalpers. I don't live too far away so I'm going to hop a bus down there and try to scalp some tickets at a reasonable price with a buddy or two. If that doesn't work out, there are plenty of good sports bars to go catch the game at.
  12. Might it be because Jeffrey Maier is a repeat?
  13. Reformat and ditch Vista for XP (or if you must Windows 7....either one is miles better and faster than Vista).
  14. Avast is the free one that I use and love it.
  15. It's nice to see everyone (namely Prince) jumping around and getting excited after that Rivera HR. Can't tell you the last time I saw them like this. Maybe the team can parlay this into a nice run, but I won't hold my breath for now...
  16. If we are talking AL teams only, I see the most likely destinations (in no particular order) as: New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Texas. I really hope the Brewers didn't pick him up.
  17. The last thing the Brewers need (or can afford) is an overpaid outfielder to go along with Suppan and Bill Hall. Unless Rios got his career turned around in Milwaukee, it would probably be tough to get rid of him without paying part of his salary because he would be coming up to those big salary years. Why take on that liability for a seemingly average outfielder?
  18. But it IS problematic. The Blue Jays (and many people around baseball) thought it would be quite tough to get rid of Rios without having to pay a chunk of that contract. For a guy that has a career .784 OPS and has never driven in more than 85 runs (granted he is still relatively young like you said), seven years and $69 million is a pretty hefty contract.
  19. Per Buster Olney. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4384253 What a miracle for the Blue Jays. They don't have any financial flexibility and Rios appears to have been severely overpaid in the contract that he signed last April. I think it will be interesting to see what GM made that claim (if the Jays don't take him back). They probably could have traded for him before the deadline and even gotten the Blue Jays to pay some of his salary.
  20. I'm in the Twin Cities and I can watch every Brewers game on MLB.tv (except when they are playing here in Minnesota). I believe my billing address is in WI as well, but am not 100% positive. As others have said, just sign up through the MLB.com website. If you are interested in HD Quality, DVR capabilities, and watching up to four games simultaneously, than make sure to get the premium subscription. This is my 2nd year having MLB.tv and I love it.
  21. But he handles the pitching staff so well... 76 pitches through 4. Here's to another short start from a Brewers pitcher.
  22. Here's a good "I Kissed A Girl, And I Liked It" story: I take the bus to get to work every day. Anybody that rides the bus knows that there is a usual dynamic. Some creepy people, some goofy, many normal. Anyhow, I stepped on a couple weeks back and sat down behind some guy. He had his MP3 player in (perfectly normal) and earbuds. Apparently he was not one of the masses that realize anybody can hear anything you are listening to if you have earbuds in because I could plainly make out the droan of "I Kissed A Girl, And I Liked It". It took everything I had to not break out laughing. I would have cut him some slack if it were the radio or something, but this was quite clearly an MP3 player and a) he had it on there which is bad enough & b) he was listening to it.
  23. Here is my soft spot: http://jerland.com/shepherds/puppies/09yari-zalynB01.jpg I don't have one, but I really want to buy one. I never grew up with dogs, only cats, but I like them both. In a perfect world, I would love to have a German Shepherd and a cat. Also, as others have said, I really like babies and small children. I have a lot of fun just watching how happy they are and how much they enjoy even the smallest things in life.
  24. ^^^ +1 Ship your clothes and knick-knacks, drive the television. If that isn't an option, I would first look to see what you could sell it for with the intent of buying a new one up there and then after that look at shipping it FedEx or UPS. I don't know about you, but I kept the original box and styrafoam from my 40" LCD for this exact purpose. Even if I only have to move it 20 miles, I want it in that box and protected. If you have to ship it, bubble-wrap the snot out of it and certainly buy shipping insurance.
