  1. I have no problems keeping Dickerson. I think he is a very solid backup outfielder. I think Boggs would be a great guy to have off the bench too. The guy I have a problem with keeping is Kotsay. He's not nearly as good as though two are in the outfield, and he's just another left-hander. I get that he's a veteran, but I don't think his signing was necessary. I think we'd be fine with a bench of Dickerson, Boggs, Counsell, Cruz, and Kotarras. That would give us two guys who could hit righty off the bench, which would be nice to have for a change. The whole backup 1B thing seems pointless to me. Prince never sits out, and if he did, Casey could just move over there. Cruz also has played there during ST.
  2. It seems to me at times that he feels burdened by having to do this on top of his normal job. Doesn't seem like a bad gig to me. Gets to live down in warm and sunny Phoenix and watch the Brewers.
  3. Yeah, I hope Tom comes back with good news. This is very discouraging. He can take as long as he needs though, and we'll continue to suffer through Michael Hunt's attempt to be a beat writer. I have really hated some of the stuff he's said, and his attitude towards certain things. Oh well, we'll deal with it.
  4. I can understand Gamel being frustrated. He's gotten blocked a few years in a row by McGehee and Fielder, neither of which was expected to happen, and he also lost a roster spot due to injury last year. I don't really get why he would refuse to play a position other than 3b when he clearly won't get a chance to play there as long as McGehee is around. Also, he sucks at 3b. His best bet to make it to the big leagues full-time is to convert to 1b or a corner outfield spot. If he doesn't, he's going nowhere fast. I was at the game yesterday, and he looked absolutely horrible at 3b. He had two throwing errors, both on pretty routine plays, and missed a diving play to his right that he probably should've had. He just looks bad at 3b overall. He needs to be moved permanently. I wouldn't feel comfortable with him at 3b if McGehee went down. I'd rather see Counsell or Cruz over there.
  5. http://apps.facebook.com/...ndex.php?pid=ABF7LUvVcpo Down to 4. Final Round. I still want Rage.
  6. I was at the game last night. Braddock wasn't horrible. Gave up a 3-run homer on a bad pitch, which made his outing look horrible. Not that it's not his fault, because he definitely hasn't looked himself this spring.
  7. I talked to Lucroy before the game tonight, and I asked him when he'd be back playing in a game. He said that he there's no way he'll be in a game for awhile because he can't swing the bat yet. So then I asked him if he would be ready for opening day. He quickly responded in a confident way that he would for sure be ready. Didn't seem to be a doubt in his mind at all. That's good enough for me. The guy clearly wants to play.
  8. It makes a difference whether or not Yo pitches on the 5th or 6th, because if he pitches the 5th he can also pitch the 10th. That is the last game in the Cubs series, and is also before an off day on the 11th. So if he doesn't pitch the 5th, he'll be on 5 days rest two starts in a row. I doubt they will do that with Greinke out.
  9. No one is going to be pitching on 3 days rest in April. That's just stupid. Someone else will be making starts on April 6, 16, and 26 if necessary. There's no way that we go with only 4 starters for that whole time. It's a terrible idea to pitch guys on 3 days rest that early in the season.
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118015019.html Seems like an odd move to me. Pretty much makes Peralta the # starter. Peralta looked very good on Sunday, I was at the game. He must be impressing Roenicke. Was also at the game yesterday and Rogers wasn't bad, but he didn't seem to be himself. I know Roenicke said he was upset with his approach.
  11. Brewers just announced Saito is starting instead of Peralta.
  12. Assuming Dickerson makes the team (not a lock either), I think one roster spot will go to either Boggs, Almonte, Cruz or Farris (who is having a fine spring and seeing action at SS). Right now Almonte appears to be the favorite, but that could change. Boggs plus one of those 3 could make it too if Dickerson fails. Reed is a long shot that could still dislodge Dickerson also. All of these guys have plusses and minuses. Boggs big plus is that he's switch hitter. Dickerson is the best backup CF. Almonte has shown the best bat so far, but Arizona can be a fooler. Farris gives them speed off the bench and has options. Roenicke said he considers Kotsay to be in the outfield group. Seeing as we won't carry 6 outfielders, it's between Dickerson and Boggs for one spot. Roenicke also said he wants a player who can play infield spots other than Counsell, and Almonte is limited in the field. That leads me to believe that Cruz will get the nod. Almonte might be hitting well, but he can't field, and he can't play SS.
  13. Except that he was signed on a major league deal. If he was signed on a minor league deal I could see it being a depth move. Since that's not the case, I think he was signed to likely replace Kottaras. It's not like one will be sent to AAA. Whoever we don't keep is gone, so it doesn't really keep depth at all.
  14. Why did Doug even bother signing Nieves if he would recommend Kottaras? I don't think anyone has a special advantage.
  15. This is why I think Cruz still has the spot locked down. He can actually play 2b, 3b, and ss. And they even put him out in the of to try him there. He can't hit as well, but at least he is capable in the field at multiple positions. Almonte really isn't.
  16. I think we've known this all along. They just need to fill the starts on April 6 and April 16 if it gets to that.
  17. Ok, but it's only one game. Gallardo, Marcum, and probably Rogers have the other 3 games in that series. Narveson could've pitched any of the 4 games.
  18. There's gonna have to be some weird shuffling with the spring rotation, and it's starting today with Narveson pitching on 3 days rest. The whole rotation needs to be realigned somehow.
  19. Not thrilled about Narveson getting the home opener, but it's good for him. It was originally lined up for Marcum, but it's necessary to move him up to the Reds series with Greinke out. Between Narveson and Wolf it really doesn't make a difference, so it doesn't really matter I guess.
  20. link Good, I thought all along that he would probably be ready. I don't think it's a stretch at all to give him 2 or 3 starts. The experience will be good for him too.
  21. Maybe Suppan gets cut from the Giants...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gifDon't even joke about that. Just seeing his name mentioned almost gave me a heart attack. Too many bad memories racing through my head. Almost scared me to death.
  22. http://milwaukee.brewers....ey=news_mil&c_id=mil Gallardo starting opening day. Then Marcum and Wolf. Narveson gets the home opener.
  23. I think Boggs is really making a case to make this team. He is hitting very well, he's a switch hitter, and he has no options left. Almonte is playing very well, but I really don't see us keeping him on the roster ahead of Cruz. I could see Dickerson getting sent to AAA, just because of the option he has left. It feels like they are really giving Boggs a shot by giving him lots of ABs this spring. If he continues to hit, I don't see how he won't be on the opening day roster.
  24. It's gonna be Rogers. I don't think 2 or 3 starts is too much for him. Shouldn't be too much to worry about.
  25. I think it's gonna be a dog fight for the NL Central this year between the Brewers, Reds, and Cards. Should be fun to watch. We should be playing meaningful games in September again, and that is fun in itself.
