  1. Yep, I'm still pissed that we signed Kotsay to begin with. He's just taking a roster spot from someone who deserves it, and can actually play the field. We would've been fine with Dickerson and Boggs as backup outfielders. We could just put McGehee at 1B if we had to. Prince is going to play 162 games anyway, barring injury.
  2. I just hope they don't give Almonte a roster spot just because he's hitting well in ST. That really doesn't mean much, and I really don't think he would do much for us off the bench. He can't really play anywhere adequately in the field, and isn't very versatile. Maybe if he could still play middle infield he'd be useful, but he can't. I still think it's gonna be Kotsay and Dickerson for the OF, and Counsell and Cruz for the IF. With Kottaras as backup C and Boggs getting a spot if Hart goes on the DL.
  3. That's terrible. Hopefully Tom is doing ok. He can take as long as he needs.
  4. I wouldn't mind Estrada getting the nod. He could also serve as our long reliever in the 10 days between starts, which will help with Parra out. Egan has a shot to make the team if Hawkins goes on the DL to start the season. Otherwise, I don't really see it happening. Either way, he might be gone by mid-April.
  5. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118458709.html It's good that Gamel is being sent down to learn to play 1B. It's about time that they force him to just play there and learn it. We will need him when Prince leaves.
  6. I'll respectfully disagree. At this point in time, I'd prefer Cappy over Narveson. Though I hope he carries it forward into this season, I have a feeling that a lot of the confidence in Narveson is based on his last handful of starts last season, in which he pitched pretty well (granted you could say the same about Capuano). From my recollection, Narveson got knocked around in most of his starts last season, I'm just going off memory, but didn't he have a hard time getting out of the 5th inning? Maybe I'm just cynical because I've seen a lot of guys like Victor Santos pitch well for a few months and then have the wheels completely come off the following season.Yeah, I know what you mean. Narveson could be another guy that just collapses this year, or he could actually pan out as a good 5th starter. I guess the same could be said about Cappy, but more because of his injury history. The reason I would've supported giving Cappy the 5 spot is because it would allow for more depth and I really think the difference between him and Narveson is very small.
  7. I really believe that the Brewers want Peralta to take the spot. I think if he can turn things around in his next few outings, then he will get the spot. Signing or trading for someone outside the organization seems like a last resort to me. It's likely only gonna be two starts, and I'm not sure it's necessary to bring anyone in unless we are forced to.
  8. This was mentioned in another thread, but apparently Bonderman doesn't wanna play this year. He wants to sit out the season.
  9. I think everyone's relatively confident that Greinke will only miss 2-3 starts. That's been the feeling all along. Hopefully it's only 2, and not 3, though. There's a 10-day gap between those starts.
  10. Rage definitely needs to win this. No one wants to hear The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It's pretty evident that the votes from the eliminated songs are all going to those 2 songs though.
  11. Actually, Hunt said in his blog today that Hawkins won't be ready for opening day.
  12. So is it safe to assume, then, that you have nothing tangible to back this up? From an ESPN article...obviously the Brewers offer was lacking in both cash and opportunity. The Mets promised him nothing, but it sounds like the Brewers basically pushed him out the door."Similarly, Capuano's contract was structured to account for him being a starting pitcher. He has a base salary of $1.5 million and can max out at $4.5 million with 32 starts and 200 innings. Capuano's contract does provide for $500,000 in bonuses on top of the $1.5 million base salary if he makes 60 relief appearances. But the reason he signed with the Mets and broke off talks with the Milwaukee Brewers, his former team, is because his interest was in starting and not in working in relief and the Mets were interested in him for a rotation role. That doesn't say they low-balled him. It just says that we couldn't offer him a shot at a starting role, which we already knew.
  13. Totally agree with you. The Brewers realize that too. There's no way he won't be on the team. That's really why I don't see us keeping another outfielder since Kotsay is on the roster. We will probably hold onto Boggs until Hart comes back. It seems more like Cruz will be kept, because he can play the outfield also. I don't really see Kotsay getting any significant time in the outfield. He'll likely just be our Inglett of this year.
  14. So is it safe to assume, then, that you have nothing tangible to back this up? I can believe that he wanted to come back, but I don't think anyone really knows the exact offer we made or why he didn't take it. He wasn't guaranteed anything in New York except a chance to compete for a rotation spot. I guess he wasn't offered that here then. He probably should've been allowed to compete with Narveson, but he obviously wasn't. That's probably the reason in my opinion. Based on the blog comments you listed above, I would have to say that this would be the case.
  15. Frankly, I don't know why we didn't bring in an extra arm when both Parra and Rogers got injured. At that point, we pretty much knew that neither of them would be available for awhile. That would leave us with no insurance for out rotation. I don't see why we thought that we could get by with a couple guys who have no major league experience. Bringing in a guy like Bonderman would've been a smart thing to do.
  16. Yep, exactly. He wasn't guaranteed anything there either. There's no way he would've went there over Milwaukee unless we didn't really make him a good offer. That's just how it is. It's unfortunate, but like I said before we will have some good insurance when Rogers and Parra are healthy. Hopefully, this won't end up being an issue. I think it's just gonna be a problem for a few starts here in April and then we will be fine.
  17. Honestly, I wouldn't've had a problem with Doug guaranteeing Cappy the 5th spot. Narveson wasn't really any better than Cappy last year, and I think Cappy could've held it down. If he faltered somewhere along the way we would then have insurance in Narveson. I never saw a problem with doing that, but it's all in the past now. Narveson should be an ok 5th starter, and really we are only struggling to fill a couple starts at this point. We just need to hope that no significant injuries happen before Rogers is stretched out and completely healthy and ready to go. If Rogers was ready to take that 5th spot right now, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now. Once we are a comfortable 6 deep, with Parra also healthy as insurance, we'll be perfectly fine.
  18. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118342349.html Here's an example of Hunt being a tool. "Spring training, where I'm currently being held captive, happens every year." Seriously, Hunt makes it seems like it hates being there and has kinda mocked things in his blog post. Is he really the only option they had to fill-in for TH? He doesn't take the job seriously at all. I'd rather have one of those ASU students just take care of everything. Too bad MU didn't lose just so Rosiak would get down there to replace this tool. Not that I wanted them to lose, but seriously it's not the same.
  19. Yeah, that's what I got from it too. I really think Cappy would've preferred to stay. The Brewers just didn't seem interested enough. We went into the offseason with Cappy out of our plans. I really don't know why we were set on giving Narveson the 5 spot, but oh well I guess.
  20. Narveson getting rocked. This better not happen during the home opener. Cappy would look really good as our #5 right now...
  21. I got mine. It was here when I got back from ST. What an awesome thing to come back to!
  22. It's looking to me like it's gonna be Kottaras as backup catcher, Counsell and Cruz as backup infielders, and Kotsay and Dickerson as backup outfielders. Seems like they are preparing Cruz to be versatile, likely to makeup for Kotsay not being a solid fielder. That could easily be solved by just keeping Boggs over Kotsay, but oh well. Although, Hart will likely be on the DL to start the season, so Boggs will likely be on the roster.
  23. Yeah, I probably would've done that too. Then if he sucked, just give Narveson the spot. If he's good, which is what happened, then we are probably better off.
  24. If we trade Gamel, we won't necessarily be out of options to replace Fielder anyway. Really, we could even move McGehee or Hart to 1B. Meaning we'd just have to find a 1B, 3B, or RF somewhere. I'm pretty sure we can fill one spot. Although it would be easier to just plug Gamel in at 1B and be done with it.
  25. It's too bad that Cappy wasn't willing to stay, but I can understand where he was coming from. He would've gotten a chance right now, but there was no guarantee that was gonna happen.
