  1. Schroeder on Suppan today, "He's pitched pretty good except for those home runs."
  2. Frankly, if this report is true, I don't see Boras backing down from that number. If it's what he wants, he'll be able to get it from some team. It's not realistic for the Brewers to pay that amount for Fielder, so I'd have to be in the trade Fielder this July camp, but only if we aren't in contention, because as said before we won't get as much as people think in return for him. If we contend this year, we can try to trade him in the offseason unless some miracle happens and Boras settles for less.
  3. I think in the short-term we will likely look back and regret it if we don't re-sign Prince. However, in the long-term we will realize that it was probably a good idea, because it would likely cripple us in the future when our other players are commanding bigger bucks. Although, I think we could get by if a couple of our pitching prospects pan out, but we can't really count on that. If you look at it, it's gonna be about 5 years till Escobar gets paid, and a few years till Gomez and McGehee would get anything significant. We have Braun on a reasonable salary, and can probably get Weeks on a reasonable salary as well. What it really comes down to is paying pitchers beyond Gallardo. If prospects don't develop in that department, and we re-sign Prince, then we're pretty much screwed and can't sign free agent pitchers.
  4. I really don't understand why Edmonds is getting starts in CF now, and I especially don't understand why he is hitting in the 2 hole.
  5. Love this signing. Another Braun-like move by Melvin. Always a good move to lock young guys up like this. End up being bargains for quite a few years. That $13 million option will likely even be a bargain at that point. Can't argue with signings like this. Now it's time to lock up Prince! Get to it Melvin!
  6. Can't say that I'd be on board with this move. Dye can no longer play an effective right field, whereas at least Edmonds can. For right now, I'd just be happy with giving Edmonds some starts out there to see what he does, and hopefully Hart can snap out of it. Dye also hasn't been through Spring Training, so we'd need to go through a month or so of rust with him, which wouldn't be productive either. I'd be interested in seeing what the Nationals offered for Hart though. That might sway my opinion a little bit.
  7. How would people feel if this was actually true? It actually seems like a decent deal, although we don't need Shoppach at all right now. Garza would be a nice add to the rotation. Gallardo Wolf Garza Davis Bush. That's really solid.
  8. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/89560922.html Well, this article pretty much confirms my thinking. Both are preparing to be in the bullpen and manager Ken Macha thinks that’s probably a good idea since the next time either man pitches it will probably be in relief during one of the two exhibition games at Miller Park this weekend. Because the Brewers won’t name a fifth starter out of camp and one won’t be needed until the second week of the season, those two will not make another start for the foreseeable future. Instead, they’ll become relievers and if one of them is named the starter during that Chicago Cubs series, Macha said it shouldn’t be a problem to have either go from relief to starter. However, it could be that neither guy gets that turn in the rotation. Jeff Suppan could be off the DL by then and Macha just said it is possible that he could get that start. “I’m thinking that may be,” Macha said. “None of that has been discussed (yet). We’ll wait until we get to that fork in the road before we take it.”
  9. Well, Narveson pitching 3 innings and Parra pitching 2 innings tells me that they are both headed to the pen. Suppan's DL stint can be back-dated to March 26, meaning he can be activated on April 10, which is the first possible day we would need a 5th starter. They are likely just DLing him to get an extra arm in Villanueva until he's needed, and so he can pitch on his regular day in the minors to get ready for whenever he is needed as the 5th starter.

  11. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I like it Doug.
  12. Btw, would anyone else love to see Gomez and Escobar 1-2 in some order, and Weeks hitting 5 as much as I would?
  13. No, I'm pretty sure I saw an interview from Macha saying he hadn't been caught yet.
  14. I'd be interested in a three-way too. It just doesn't include Snyder or Lowell.Who wouldn't be interested in a three-way? I'm pretty sure everyone would come out of it satisfied with the results.
  15. I'm becoming more optimistic now when it comes to the decision-making of Macha and company. Bush is #4, and deservedly so, and hopefully now Parra will be #5.
  16. This is turning out to be a good day. Edmonds is staying with the team, and Bush is the #4 starter.
  17. I personally think that Bush is being lined up for the 4th spot, and either Parra or Suppan will get the 5 spot. With Narveson being primarily in the pen, but obviously there as insurance should any of those 3 struggle in the rotation.
  18. Actually, the 5th starter is needed on April 18th.
  19. Frankly, I would've liked to see Heether get a shot as well, but it looks like that wasn't even under consideration at this point.
  20. It seems pretty obvious to me that Edmonds and Inglett have pretty much locked in those spots already. The only righty may be Matt Treanor, but he likely won't be pinch-hitting at all obviously. A lefty bench is no big deal at all, because of what you said exactly. People will be getting days off on a regular basis, so it's not an issue. And no Doug likely won't make a trade, I really don't see the point.
