I don't know where this fiasco ends compensation-wise. The other part of this I'm looking forward to is being rid of all of 12's pals that are just not roster-worthy guys anymore. Tonyan, Lewis, Cobb, Crosby, even Lazard I am ok to watch walk. Just turn the page and see what's out there.

Because Aaron Rodgers is not going to allow the world to watch him on the bench behind Jordan Love, particularly if they actually won some games and the camera panned his face for 1/3 of the game while the entire universe sees that, no, they actually don't need you. They don't look like buffoons then, he does. Not a chance it happens.

I wouldn't care at all if they just shipped him out for a 4th, but I also would love the entertainment value of him showing up to GB in a Cesna in August.

Neither is going to happen, but that is more likely (as in a non-zero chance) than what you suggested. There's no scenario in which that guy is wearing a Packers jersey at camp. The Packers already have some sunk cost in Rodgers for 2023. They already have a QB. Honestly, I do think it's possible they just tell him and the Jets to pound sand and eat it. Like a 2% chance, but there have been some fairly comparable scenarios in sports recently.

Adams definitely would have had other suitors though so there was incentive for the Raiders to move fast. Robert Tonyan to the Bears. I know he was something of a fan favorite, but oof I did not enjoy watching that guy. He looked slower than every OL on the field.

He's not going to play for the Packers or pretend to play for the Packers to exact some sweet revenge plot.

I'll put it in writing that I don't blame BK or anybody else for not trading Rodgers earlier. Yes, yes, I know, some of you wanted to happen last year. But, as I've said every time this comes up, it was a perfectly reasonable way to go about things keeping him again for another run. We'd be arguing now about how we wasted the picks anyway like we had to keep doing with Rashan Gary.

To take your analogy one step farther, being single also sounds fun until you remember what it's like, lol.

I honestly think Rodgers is going to play for like 4-5 more years, but yeah I don't think this trade is going to be super wild. I think TS is close to the mark.

How on earth would anybody know this? Last year he did the colon blow extravaganza and this year he went into a voluntary holding cell. It's March. I don't think anyone is doing much of anything. I doubt his offseason prep changed much from '20 to '21 to '22. He stopped caring, at 38, because he got a big contract? It is not like he was struggling financially before that. Man, everyone knows sports are as short memory as it gets, but the takes on Rodgers this year are so wild to me. He's washed up and now he isn't preparing for the season, lol. He was hurt and they sucked. Father Time catches up to everybody, sure, but feels like people are putting waaaaaay too much stock in the fact he didn't win a 3rd straight MVP. This feels exactly like the "Brady is washed" train that came through about 5 years too early. Spoiler Alert: Rodgers was always "weird." Always. There's an embarrassing video from his first year as a starter where he's strumming a guitar on the beach with Laura Orkin and doing an interview about all the same hippie and love and spiritual beauty stuff. There's the UFO sighting from what, 7 years ago? People mostly just tuned it all out. The grudges are nothing new, he's been doing that since the dawn of time. He has not changed. It was mostly after he took the wrong side on a polarizing issue that the coverage of him and his personality did change, though, and made him out to be this insane whacko who lost his mind, blowing every remotely against-the-grain thought he shared on McAfee into a month-long story.

I really hope we eventually hear what's holding it up. The year could be a huge difference. If we're talking first rounders, 13th overall in 2023, could very well be 30th in 2024. Plus the Jets then obviously get to another impact player right away, if they retain this year's pick. But who knows. Maybe the Packers are attaching a million conditional things tied to Rodgers's performance.

I mean, who the Packers backup QB is next season is a legit question.

I haven't seen anyone say they believe a word. Just telling you what he's literally saying. Although none of it sounds particularly hard to believe. Rodgers does seem to have this idea that only the Green Bay Packers dump aging players unceremoniously.

I don't think that's quite what was said. He came out of Hades and had messages that he was being shopped. And his knee-jerk was 'I'm 90% toward retiring.' I took it as more of a, 'I'm 40, I don't want to go through something new.' But after a couple of days came around to reality that he wanted to play and both sides were mutually disinterested in that being in GB. IMO, he's not coming across as particularly bitter at all though I'm sure it will get reported that way. He also claims he has little/nothing to do with who's been signed. Claims they asked him about Lazard.

For those unable to see the soap opera, Rodgers says the Packers told him the door was open after the season if he wanted to play again. Says after the darkness retreat, he was getting texts and such that he was being shopped, and was 90% retiring. Dwelled on it and wanted to play for the Jets, says he is not holding things up, it's the teams.

The problem is that comps are almost never actually comps because each situation has 10 variables. There isn't one name on that list who's a one-year rental expectation at time of trade, or 40 like Rodgers could/will be. And that's not even getting into who's available at the time of trade, time of year, how badly he has to be traded. It's never as simple as Player A was worse than Player B so Player B should fetch more.

He was pretty good the year he was traded though which Rodgers was not. I think Rodgers is still going to be really good if he plays and other teams think that too. I'd expect Rodgers to be valued higher than Favre, but a 1st for a 40 y/o QB, whose team has publicly said they don't want him, is a lofty expectation. It's weird because both teams really can't afford not to make this happen. Possibly even more so for the Jets.

I'd be pretty shocked if the Packers got a 1st. Not exactly the same but I don't recall what Favre got, a 4th? But isn't this kind of DEFCON 1 now for NYJ, who's playing QB if not Rodgers? So who knows. I had a vision last night the Packers bailed out and just named Love the starter.

I'm just ready for everyone to transition from complaining about how long it's taking to complaining about the return and how we should have traded him two years ago.

I don't think it's a lot like The Decision. For one, he's not the biggest star in football in the absolute prime of his career and GB fans and team aren't praying for his return. If I were Rodgers I wouldn't give the scoop to a reporter either. They've done nothing but ridicule and mock him for the last two years and every off-the-cuff remark he's made on that show is a headline for a month. Plus this way he can spin it his way and come out saying the hold-up had nothing to do with me, etc. He could be making all that up of course, but I can't say I blame the guy for wanting to speak himself and not through ESPN or whoever. Why not let his buddies get the scoop?

The lack of investment in WRs is such a bizarre trope to me. He has consistently played with an all-pro WR from Day 1 until this past season, and almost always had a good OL. I suspect BK whiffed on thinking D.Adams was bluffing. I said this at the time, bu not signing Adams was a blessing for the long-term prospects of the team. They also invested quite a few picks in WRs who just sucked, but it isn't like they didn't try. Rodgers must think the WRs were good since he wants them all to move with him. If we need 3 all-pro WRs for our $50mm QB something is very wrong. I also feel like people flip-flopped on this constantly. We needed to give Rodgers a defense and he can throw to whoever, no wait, we failed him at WR. Honestly, I don't really get the big issue with the current FO. They've had some god-awful 3rd round picks and yeah nothing's been perfect, but generally I feel like attempts have been made to improve things with varying results. There are picks I'd like to have back and such, but I had way more anguish over late-stage Ted Thompson doing NOTHING year after year and just watching prime Rodgers be Atlas for what were 5-11 teams. I think everybody is upset to varying degrees we got one title out of Rodgers. That's fair. Most people seem to have a person or two they blame for that. Personally I've just sort of accepted we were painfully close a bunch of times and just had some really unlucky fortune. It happens like that sometimes though, that is sport.

I think any front office argument is bunk after 2018. They did a lot to improve the team through various methods. You can get things wrong but that isn't the same as not helping. Plus, the whole thing kinda falls apart for me because a talent void wasn't keeping them out of the Super Bowl. They had teams to do it, just didn't execute. It happens. No guarantees of anything. When you lose at home to SF on a punt block that is not because you drafted Jordan Love. It's just way too myopic for me to waste my time thinking about. Im pretty glad they drafted Love right now anyway.

I could totally see Rodgers throwing in the condition that he gets to announce this to the world personally.

Lazard does make some sense for them. With a WR like Wilson he is a good 2/3, the Packers tried to pretend he was a 1 for most of the season. He's not a bad player. Big time size and not afraid to lay a block. I'm not seeing him as a 4th WR at all - after Wilson they don't have much at all. Jury may be out on Moore but he had a bad year 2. Lewis is probably harmless. If I'm the Jets I draw the line at Cobb. Or try to.

I think they kinda suck, actually, outside Wilson. One guy is a top pick bust from years ago and the other I think the jury is out on. Lazard is actually a good fit for them. He can block and provides some size they are lacking. I'm wish tplush on the antics though. Setting aside reality that most of the guys are washed up, Rodgers is 40 and wants friends on the team. I kind of respect what he's doing; nobody can say he's a disloyal friend, and it's just kind of funny watching him make execs squirm on his puppet strings. These people have no issues tossing old players into the street, so it's just kind of amusing watching him flip the script. I get that he may be hurting his own cause and either doesn't realize this or doesn't care, but it is still funny to watch.
