  1. 1) The season is incredibly short so the time in which this can occur is very limited. 2) The virus is still a problem. 3) The data on the virus lags, so even if it gets contained, you don't know until way later. 4) An outbreak at a game is godawful for MLB. People will adjust to this if they haven't already. 5) We have baseball and I never thought we would. Let's not screw it all up to send 800 people to a game.
  2. There's still time to score a rooftop ticket for the low, low price of $400.
  3. All this tells me is that they changed the name to get in front of the sexual harassment thing. You don't change a name and logo of a multi-million dollar brand without spending hundreds of thousands or millions in market research. They didn't do any of that yet and can't pick a name for this year.
  4. I'm not a big fan of byes for baseball. I think it could screw you up more than anything. Byes make sense in single-elimination formats but not as much in a series. I'd be open to a bye if there was a chance you could go 100-62 and lose it all in one game (guess you can in the play-in). The pick-your-opponent thing is kind of cool, but I still prefer just keeping it as is. I wouldn't hate either way.
  5. I'm not blaming migrant workers for coronavirus (I dunno if he is), it's clearly thrived in all kind of places that don't have migrant workers. I am saying that I would completely expect them to be disproportionately affected because they have absolutely no lifestyle flexibility. They have little to no financial protections that citizens would, they can't farm remotely, there are rampant labor violations on the farms and it's not like they can just go look for another job. It's this or starve. Then you throw in that they have to move around to find work consistently, and they're working in a country already doing a not very good job of containment, and it becomes a nightmare for these people. But what are they supposed to do? The virus isn't all that scary when the alternative is to go homeless and starve your family.
  6. Oh come on, man. What about Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia? I wouldn't dismiss it, migrant workers go there too. They go everywhere, really, as far north as NJ to follow harvest patterns. A lot of these people can't quarantine and have no other options for income. After entering through CA they get on buses and travel for days, they don't get a lot of sleep and perform hard labor in sometimes brutal conditions. It's not the kind of thing ideal for your immune system. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-29/every-single-worker-has-covid-at-one-u-s-farm-on-eve-of-harvest https://calmatters.org/commentary/my-turn/2020/06/we-have-to-get-serious-about-protecting-california-farmworkers-during-covid-19/ https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/california/nearly-190-farmworkers-contract-virus-in-southern-california/2321275/ And of course, when they aren't at work, they're still going other places.
  7. Our school district is opening and of course most people are rejoicing. But can't the governor force them all closed in a moment's notice? I appreciated the results of the reopening survey being shared. 2% of parents said they were unlikely to send their kids back if school reopens. 59% said very likely and 16% said likely. Here is where the division will be: The school is requiring masks in most scenarios, but basically 2/3 of parents responded masks should be optional. This survey was taken at the end of June, so I am hoping with where masks stands now in WI more people will relent on that.
  8. It is sad, especially considering that we can't go to the games.
  9. It's been a long time since I've had actual cable but the last time I did, the regular cheap cable package contained absolutely nothing. It was a bunch of crap and basically nothing that people get cable for. You had to go a level up for FSNWI. I'm almost positive their streaming service doesn't have FSN.
  10. Are you going to Gold Package games? Because I've heard there is a distinct difference in the crowd between the two.
  11. Legally, I believe that's accurate.
  12. Sling was great because you could cut it off at any time and it was only $25. It's not included in the cheaper package anymore though, don't think it's in either Sling package but not 100% sure. I bootleg all the time, but I won't lie to myself and say it's as nice as having it paid. It's just a lot easier to sit down and watch it without any fussing.
  13. Obviously an opinion here, but the NFL would lose the least of the major leagues by going no-fans. The in-person NFL experience is terrible. Without commercials and potty/snack breaks filling the 10,000 replay and TV timeouts, it's like endless teeth-pulling waiting for stuff to happen. I stopped going because it started to feel so labored. It lacks the excitement of the NBA and the casual, relaxing summer fun of MLB and combines the worst aspects of both. It's felt like a made-for-TV league for a long time.
  14. I just have a hard time justifying the $50 or whatever it is to get literally one program I'm interested in seeing and can't catch every night. Hell I'd give them $15 a month for JUST the telecast of the games.
  15. However, face coverings may increase risk if users reduce their use of strong defenses, such as physical distancing and frequent hand washing, when using cloth face coverings. It's funny that statements like that can actually appear on the Department of Health website, and yet the government and media seem to have hidden that message and really harped on this concept that masks will save us all. Hard to miss the obvious irony that just a couple months ago the government was saying that masks don't do any good. I know you like to harp your view on masks but what you said is very true. There are a lot of people that think that doing the bare minimum means they are totally protected and they can ignore everything else. I've wondered how many people that have been tested and came back negative felt like and went on to live their life like they have full immunity taking no precautions whatsoever. This is sort of the same thing with bike helmets. There was a growing philosophy for a long time that the helmets weren't all that useful because it gave bikers and drivers false security. If you get in a crash, the helmet is better, but wearing the helmet was said to increase the risk of an accident to begin with. It can't really be proven one way or the other, because the counterargument is that in many accidents the cyclist is taking a risk others wouldn't. I suspect it's the same with a mask, where if you wear a mask but do other sloppy things, you were probably more risky to begin with, with or without the mask.
  16. So you are saying that if a covid positive person is making a sandwich at a sub shop with no mask, and coughs directly onto that sandwich, the person now eating that sandwich less than 5 minutes later can't get the virus? It's a serious question, not picking a fight... Gross, but probably true for the most part. I don't think anyone would use the word "can't," but the transmission is much more potent when you directly inhale the droplets. The sandwich makers should be wearing masks right now though, regardless of what the science says. It's negligent of a place that prepares food not do require it, if for no other reason than putting customers at ease.
  17. People also love continuing to go straight out of the left turn only lane in the roundabout.
  18. Yeah, I don't think they are. The Internet got excited about this and if this is all we get, it's pretty much a dud.
  19. I don't believe anything about the refs in this specific case, but there are a hundred reasons why a ref would take a bribe beyond just the cash. The owners are mostly enormously powerful people that can appoint these guys to chair positions in a bunch of different organizations. Most people that take bribes are already successful. Any time you're talking about something as profitable as pro sports, the opportunity for corruption is always there.
  20. I'm fine with working Burnes in slowly. Still think he's got a lot of great baseball in front of him. Not sure what happened last year but it was so abysmally bad that I don't think it can be long-term. I hope anyway.
  21. Maybe he was paying the refs to make sure they lost and tank for the draft, lol.
  22. The dates for when this was here keep getting shoved earlier and earlier. A lot of those "I was sick and coughing over Valentine's Day" stories that were dismissed don't look as irrelevant now. I have a feeling way more people had this than we think.
  23. You can't avoid Walmart in many places in the country, including where I live unless you want to pay $7 for a $3 box of Cheerios, it's not even an option for many people to pay the premium at the alternative. You're talking about a store where 95% of US consumers entered a physical location last year. It's simply that if Walmart says you have to do it, it's completely normalized. People won't abandon Walmart because of masks, most of them couldn't if they wanted to. In full disclosure, I work for Kohl's corporate. The mask policy was a direct result of Walmart's. People talk a big game on social media about taking their money elsewhere when companies mildly irritate them, but basically nobody does it once the increased cost of their new behavior comes into play.
  24. There is a reason they fell like dominos after Walmart went the mask-required route. It was literally within hours that Kohl's, Target etc. followed suit. It's harder for the others to do so when the biggest retailer in the world won't; it's just another mildly annoying thing and if the leader isn't doing, the others aren't going to risk enforcing the policy and have any customers decide to just go to Walmart and not deal with it. Many of them are operating on paper thin margins right now and cannot risk making the in-store experience "worse" if the captain isn't doing it. WM doesn't deserve kudos though, this is way too late. Costco does, as usual. Their entire response was lightyears ahead of all retail and the government.
