  1. If this happens, I may seriously just leave the state. I've heard about the contingency plans but not anywhere in those kinds of scary terms. Edit: Hang on, so you just mean that school may close at some point again next year. Oof.
  2. I'm not sure how to make it any more clear that I know all of that was initially reported. Is this the fourth time I've said this, or just the fourth time you've given up and announced you're done, after shaking your head and walking out and 10 pages later thanking me and saying goodbye?
  3. Two of the four quotes I pulled from my initial post are from the report stating this info. I don't need to "address" it because it was in my first post. The one you did not read, and said was "horribly phrased" even though in contained this info. this is like pulling teeth. Their distinctions of 'Pre' and "A" were in the initial report. Their points of very few people truly don't show symptoms was in the initial. The things you're accusing them of rolling back after the fact were all there initially. That is the whole point and you're ignoring it. Your whole point was that they're changing their story (due to pressure yesterday) and that is factually not true That's truly fascinating because the WHO itself stated that it was a "misunderstanding" and that they "don't have the answer yet." Meanwhile Dr. Fauci called the statement flat-out "wrong." Seems completely at odds with what you're saying, but make another teeth-pulling comment to "imply that I'm stupid" why don't you?
  4. Two of the four quotes I pulled from my initial post are from the report stating this info. I don't need to "address" it because it was in my first post. The one you did not read, and said was "horribly phrased" even though in contained this info. I know the distinction between pre and a-symptomatic as well. I didn't learn it from you clearing it up. It doesn't change that there is little to no evidence of children transmitting, but again all of those reports contain the "more info needed" caveat.
  5. Problem is that I haven't done this, I've debated your points plenty as have several others. You literally have spun words into other words, namely "judging," "calling them stupid" and "conspiracy." It's best to stick to the words people use rather than the words that develop in your head after they talk.
  6. I would bet a large sum of money that there will be another complete school closing again this coming fall/winter. In Wisconsin? I can't see that happening. Way too many places are back to work as usual, more will be by then. There will be a huge childcare provider shortage if that happens. It also just doesn't make sense for the asymptomatic spread reason and the extremely low rate at which kids have not only been seriously affected, but have spread it to others. Closing when they did was clearly the right thing to do, but with where we sit now I don't see how it makes any sense. Unless you're talking universities, that's a whole different thing.
  7. It's becoming clear to me that you aren't doing this maliciously, but it is really a poor debate tactic that I encourage to self-examine. You've done this multiple times in this thread, placing words in my (and others') mouths and then responding to them with "you implied..." No, I did not. Conspiracy is an awfully strong word. That is your (imo flawed) interpretation of what I said. At no point did I intend to "imply" some conspiracy regarding COVID19. There's nothing mysterious about it. The doctor said something with massive policy implications and once it ran through the news cycle other people weighed in and they did walk it back. When you issue another briefing to "clarify" something, that is PR for walking back. Also, two of the "horribly phrased" statements I pulled "out of context" were supporting the claim that data is still needed so I'm wondering if you even read my post. The doctor who said asymptomatic transmission was rare is the same one who said more data is needed. Last thing - anything coming out at this juncture will have the caveat that more data is needed. Anything. That's what science is, nobody is taking any COVID result at this point as stone, all of it will be analyzed to death and re-analyzed until extremely solid trends are very obvious. That will take months or years. However, I'll hold my breath for breaking news that asymptomatic transmission was ever a serious thing. My opinion, but that's never going to happen because it wasn't the case, and it's going to make the case for closing schools past May look really poor.
  8. This is the only thing people always say about weed that I have a hard time buying in to. If they are saying less addictive in that far fewer people seem to overdo it, I'd definitely agree. But I've known plenty of people as I've moved through life that need to pack a bowl to give a speech, go to class, go on a date, go into a baseball game, go to work, etc. And others that are basically high every waking minute of the day. It completely incapacitates these people from being productive at all. I'm all for legalizing it and getting it off these job screens, but I hop off the wagon as soon as people (not you) start claiming that it has no negative qualities.
  9. On the advice of my SSH rep who appears to be furloughed, I requested refunds for my individual non-package tickets + promo vouchers through the end of May. I don't know if others have gotten this but I got a sort of weird email yesterday that said I would be entitled to using credits in 2020 or 2021, as well as a "special opportunity" to redeem the credits. Prior to this, my rep told me there would be no special offer for single-game/voucher tickets. I wonder if that is changing?
  10. The 50 game season actually sounds fun to me, just to see how different it is. That's like 2 good weeks from the Orioles and they have a real chance to do something. Nobody will respect it like a normal season but that doesn't mean it can't be interesting.
  11. I'll take what we get, but 90% of my involvement is attending games. I just don't sit around and watch many on TV, I just can't do that. For most of the season I'm getting phone updates, and I'll maybe see 10 games on TV unless they make the playoffs. If it's 2-2 in the 8th I might flip it on. Once I can't go to the games, it's kills a lot of it for me. I don't think it has anything at all to do with holier-than-thou traditionalist stuff. It's simply filling a gap with something else and realizing you're just fine. Lawn looks better than it has in years.
  12. I agree that I don't necessarily care if they get their act together or not, but the more things that can start trucking again, gets us back to normal faster.
  13. This is my issue with the entire COVID19 saga. Everything is weak. The samples are selective and the means they are collected has been so sloppy. There are so many reports of people not being tested early on, deaths questionably counted as COVID19. It was hard to even get tests for a while. Then there are conflicts over when and where it started in different areas of the world, the largest country on Earth clearly lying about its cases. That's to be expected with something that's just constantly fluid, but the way people continue to lean on it like this is reliable info gets frustrating. It's probably going to be YEARS before we sift through it all and make declarations about right/wrong policy.
  14. If that ends up being true, lmao. People tried telling me it showed up at ATL in March because that was GA's first documented case. Yeah, sure it did. By the end of this, and I mean the real end of it, closing school will be remembered as downright embarrassing.
  15. Or, you know, businesses could move beyond the "marijuana bad" boogeyman from the 1960's and get with the times. These two aren't mutually exclusive. You can say that weed is a dumb thing to screen for, but lots of things are dumb and I go along with them because that's what's best. If you can't lay off it during a job search, knowing you'll be screened, that's probably more of a "you" problem, and I really wouldn't want to hire a person with that lack of discipline. Plenty of places will tolerate weed after the hire with a known commodity. I agree with you completely but we all need to work within the frustration of the rules sometimes.
  16. Packers also have Herculean community support. I can't imagine what would happen if a city owned the Baltimore Orioles. 60% of the tax base would want the team out any given year. Politicians would run on killing teams. No thanks.
  17. See my post on this last night in the other thread. They're not walking back anything. It was all in there once you read past the headline. It's just people latched onto what seemed like good news, like I did. And then another faction such as yourself want to point out "See you were wrong" whenever they can. WHO communication department sure seems like it needs an overhaul, that's for sure. Their phrasing on this was brutal. But I know conspiracies are fun. Still towing that straw man I see. Who said ANYTHING about a "conspiracy"? Can you please, respectfully, stop doing this? You are taking this way too personally for some reason as if people are personally attacking you for the WHO's laughable handling of this. You are engaging in the exact tactic that I was referring to pages earlier, where you brand anyone who disagrees with you a nutcase conspiracy theorist. And it doesn't come off any other way besides ad hominem and being unable to defend your position And yes, there is walking back. The bulk of the article was that asymptomatic spread was nowhere near what the initial briefings suggested, with one sentence that we "still needed to be cautious." I read the full article. Here are some choice excerpts: “From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said at a news briefing from the United Nations agency’s Geneva headquarters. “It’s very rare.” "More research and data are needed to “truly answer” the question of whether the coronavirus can spread widely through asymptomatic carriers, Van Kerkhove added. “We have a number of reports from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing,” she said. “They’re following asymptomatic cases. They’re following contacts. And they’re not finding secondary transmission onward. It’s very rare.”" Then concludes with this: “These findings also suggest that to control the pandemic, it might not be enough for only persons with symptoms to limit their contact with others because persons without symptoms might transmit infection,” the CDC study said. That is a far cry from the initial response. Of course after this cycled for 24 hours, they came out today and "clarified" the statements because some thought they were presumptuous and sloppy which is of course possible. Being wrong isn't a conspiracy. It's amazing to me though that you accuse others of digging in their heels when you do exactly that.
  18. Well, one theory is that they really aren't all that profitable year over year. Billionaires buy them for status, personal interest, or plain old fun, because really, what could be more fun than that for a lot of people? It's probably my #1 fantasy in life. There are quite a few people who've claimed they don't really do anything for the owners financially until they are sold. The Brewers valuation has gone up a ton since purchased, but that really doesn't do anything unless they are sold. I do think it's possible that the annual profits are not this great cash cow. It's very expensive to operate. It's not like people go rags to riches by investing in a team. They do it after they're already loaded beyond belief.
  19. The WHO has come out and said asymptomatic spread is basically not a thing. That was a huge factor in the public health campaign early on. This would only reinforce the idea that isolation should be focused on at-risk populations and obviously sick people within those populations. Even the article above states most of AZ's issue stemmed from nursing homes. An uptick in the cases isn't all that surprising with lockdowns lifted. I'm not sure what people's alternative would be, other than continued lockdown into the summer which achieves exactly what? Healthy people getting this really isn't a big deal. The big deal initially was that they could be asymptomatic and spreading this to the vulnerable, but that appears to have been wrong and it is exceedingly rare. What bugs me about that is how it was stated so authoritatively early on as something they knew for sure. ...and of course now, they're walking back those comments after some people got upset and towing the old "there's a lot we don't know" stuff. Maybe they'd have some credibility if they didn't change their mind every other day.
  20. My brother was furloughed, the other folks I mentioned were not. They are being asked to come back to work by management, and basically saying "I'd like to but I'm making a lot more." They are also in high turnover industries, bars and restaurants, that probably won't ever have a demand shortage as it relates to workers.
  21. Are you sure this is happening? I only ask because I thought I saw that if you were able to go back to work you had to or your employer could report your name or something. Definitely is happening, my brother works for FunJet or whatever it's called now, and is making more while furloughed than he was working. He has not been asked to come back though. I mentioned somewhere else about some family friends who own a brewery in central WI, who cannot get the staff to come back to give up the benefits. It's happening, but like most of things of this nature, probably greatly exaggerated. There are certainly people who game the system and want handouts, but most people, I think, do get bored of having no job, miss the socializing of those kinds of positions, and would go back if they could do so. I'd question the sanity of anyone punting on a guaranteed job because they want the unemployment on steroids for another month, at this point.
  22. I dont see any sports allowing fans this year. The NFL is watching Orlando, you can bet on that. If we are into August and there is no breakout tied to Disney or Universal I believe the NFL will do something. Probably not 80k fans at once, but something.
  23. The Natural. None of them ever stick with me like that one.
  24. Just re-reading some stuff I missed, but you cannot say this and accuse others of digging in their heels. This was always about the death rate. The whole tagline was that it was a more deadly, more contagious flu. The WHO initially claimed a 4% mortality rate. It was going to kill 2.5-3mm Americans. You can't look at the country now, at 100k (it will be more than that but not 3 million) and act like that wasn't a gross miscalculation and extremely significant. If this was about being getting sick and surviving 99.8% of the time, not nearly as many things close and the fear is 1/50 what it was. If you can't concede this really glaring error and the effect that it had, there is no space to say others are being stubborn.
  25. The weirdest part of it to me is how soon the following season would start.
