  1. [sarcasm]Don't forget to factor in Yuni B's salary and WAR contribution at SS if we didn't have Segura.[/sarcasm]
  2. http://a2.img.mobypicture.com/9e50f66ad1a4d36b9678ebfa1eb5adb2_large.jpg Just get him a chicken and he'll be fine...
  3. That is probably what the Pirates' postgame is thinking, but I doubt the Brewers pull the trigger that quickly on the rebuild. I'd prefer we try to build a bit more internally first (trade Lind, let Arcia spend most of the year at AAA) than making big FA signs of Freese or Zimmerman
  4. I could see Rivera being assigned too since he can't refuse his assignment. He doesn't strike me as someone that anyone would take in Rule 5 draft. Actually, I think he would be an ideal candidate for the rule 5. Backup IF and pitchers LHP relievers seem to be the highest probability of being useful. No numbers to back that up, but a guy with MLB defense and a possible MLB bat would be worth using as a utility guy.
  5. I think his problem is now that he's in Milwaukee he has a budget to worry about and he can't afford to pay a bunch of guys to sit the bench for a month, get 1 ab a week, or pinch run. I do agree that it is silly that the roster size increases for the last month of the season. If anything, I think it should increase right after spring training since you have starters that can't go 7 innings yet and with rainouts you get multiple doubleheaders. Its not like it helps the player (beyond the paycheck) to sit and get one AB per week either. Interesting idea about early in the season, too. Most full season leagues haven't started by then either. Then the rosters could shrink after the minors start.
  6. Jed Bradley came on to relieve Johnson with the bases loaded and two outs in the third and got a groundout to second by Steve Rodriguez. In 2.1 innings of relief, the 2011 first-round pick surrendered two runs on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts. I'm going to predict a "crap for crap" change of scenery trade for Bradley this offseason. I'm sure someone will see his talent and try to "fix" him. I was pretty excited when we drafted him, but ooofta... he just can't put it together.
  7. There are probably a couple guys (like Hellweg) that will be on the 40-man until ST, then get dropped off. Also, you have Peterson to play that role of backup CF and he is on the 40-man.
  8. Think I could improve morale in my office if I implement this for every contract won?
  9. Is that a fact? A serious question. I don't know if there is a way to measure it or not exactly (the part about running into boneheaded outs vs. taking an extra base).
  10. *Yawn* He is on there almost every week...
  11. I love this. I've never understood why you can't be happy when you hit a homerun. So the pitcher gets his undies in a bunch... boo-hoo. Stop throwing gopher balls.
  12. I get everyone is tired of the "race card", but baseball fans skew older and whiter than most other sports fans. (Except possibly Golf.) The league, ownership, and mangement, and coaching skews old, white guys. Managers in particular have tended to be old school. That's changing and I suspect with it will come less talk about "playing the game the right way" as well as fewer instances of retribution for a player showing up another team. That still doesn't make race a causal relationship to the problem. This is not because Gomez is hispanic nor because Girardi is caucasian. As others have said, cultural (whether geographic or age) differences are probably true. Nothing about this is due to anyone's skin color. The untuckem' thing wasn't either. We had mixed races on the Brewers doing it and liking it. And the Cardinals had mixed races hating it and calling out the Brewers for it. Every time race continues to come up simply because people have different skin color fuels the fire of racism in this country. There are some legitimate occurrences (the church shooting) and not legitimate occurrences. If you want to bridge those gaps and reach across those barriers, it helps no one to bring it up illegitimately.
  13. It could be worse...
  14. Look, there's a right way & a wrong way to dope. If you're not doping the right way, really you're insulting the history & legacy of the game. If you can dope with your shirt tucked in, its all good...
  15. Did the Rockies really try to do this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v671/natewwii/Cool/Rockies.jpg A gold star for planning!
  16. Lucky for us. You don't find too many people with their own radar gun.
  17. I tend to disagree with this. I think it has more to do with being on certain teams more than others. As others have said, Bonds, Pujols, nor Molina were castrated for showing emotion. While Braun has always been for any peek at a HR ball.
  18. Linkto an article from ESPN: "When [Gomez] came back, he started yelling at me," Girardi said. "I wasn't the guy who said anything. He is a kid, who plays hard, but there have been a number of clubs who have taken exception to some of the things he does on the field. It just got a little heated. "I just told him, 'Play the game the right way.' They are kicking our rear ends, show a little professionalism to the pitcher. I know you missed a pitch and you are frustrated by it. I just think it is a little too much." This is what I hate about "playing the game the right way". Gomez is mad at himself for missing a pitch. He isn't showboating or even talking to the other team. And they take offense. Please. Grow up and understand that some people are doing their best even when you think they should coast. If you don't like getting clobbered, then play better. If you don't like someone watching a homerun, then pitch better. The thing I've not liked about Gomez is that he can't walk away from and argument, so things like this blow up worse.
  19. I have no idea why major league hitters struggle with Fiers I have no link (and probably too lazy to search. ), but I remember an analysis of Fier's pitches when he first came up to the MLB level to try to explain his high K rate. The summary was two main reasons: 1) A fastball that actually rose as it came to the plate and has an unusually high rise rate. The main reason why he was so successful on the high FB was that it looks lower, but goes up. Obviously that is rather unusual for most pitchers. 2) Was 4 quality pitches. He doesn't always have all four on a given day and some are better than others. But it gives him options when one pitch isn't working. And gives him different looks for different batters and multiple times through the lineup. Edit: ok, maybe not so lazy. Hereis the Fangraphs pitch Fx for his no hitter. His FB was rising at 10-15 (inches?). Although, 2-3 years ago, there was an article that spoke to it in better detail. Edit 2: I found the fangraphsarticle too. An excerpt (recognizing that it was written in 2014): J.P. Breen pointed out back in 2012 that Fiers’ fastball, through his first month of MLB starts, had the third highest amount of vertical movement of any starting pitcher. Referring to pitch f/x again, we can see that although he doesn’t consistently have as much movement as he did when Breen wrote about him in May 2012, against LA Fiers had an average of 11.1 inches of vertical movement on his fastball.
  20. Do you do this as a hobby or a desire to get into scouting?
  21. Hopefully not. His run has to come to an end eventually, but I'll take anything he can give. My little daughter knows that I'm listening to the Brewers because she recognizes Bob Ueker's voice.
  22. Boy, how many times will this picture suddenly "show up" posted around the locker room? That's a bit embarrassing.
  23. I don't think so. Many people have him in the top 10-15. Given his results, that is pretty much based on potential. But it reflects the risk that he may never achieve his potential. Being in our top 15 right now isn't an insult
  24. Personally, both Gomez and Fiers have some risk sure to age. That's why it took both of them to get the package we got. No one is saying Fiers is an ace. And Gomez might never hit 800 again. So to get back a player that might be better than Gomez next year, (and another of and two pitchers), we had to include an older number 3 pitcher.
  25. Better than Mark Kotsay! And I didn't have to watch the game to say that.
