  1. This is rational, but my question is what can be done to reduce the amount of injuries? Instead of assigning blame (not what the Chorizo is doing), but suggest some remedies. Here are some in an article. Link: Tommy John Prevention
  2. Former Brewer farmhand made quite an impressive debut for the Giants in the thick of a pennant race. Good for him. Bay Area Baseball Happenings
  3. I tend to agree with Goldstein. Perhaps not awful, but certainly not Craig Biggio like. His hands are not soft and his range is limited having seen him play last ST and in Appleton, overall maybe 5 times. This ST will be interesting to see how he performs at Big League Camp. As I have stated before, they are going to have to find a new defensive home for him and I do not know where nor do I have a suggestion.
  4. It is simple, Gerut was traded for TGJ, both of whom are bench guys at best. Edmonds is a cheap insurance policy and a one year rental until Schafer or Cain are ready in CF for 2011.
  5. I hope it is for longer than just awhile. Frankly, I stopped reading his threads for similar reasons mentioned by homer and only saw this one by accident. If he were my agent, I would rather he be looking out for my interest rather than using that lost time trying to drum up new business on brewerfan and/or show us his knowledge. Do any other agents post on this website? Seems counterproductive to me.
  6. Agreed. I earlier stated it would take two prospects to get Edwin, if pogo is correct we should be thrilled getting him for one player.
  7. Granderson is signed through 2013 with a 2014 option as follows: 08:$1M, 09:$3.5M, 10:$5.5M, 11:$8.25M, 12:$10M, 13:$13M club option ($2M buyout) Probably this salary is why the Tigers are willing to move him if true and cost prohibitive to Milwaukee, but I really like the idea of getting E. Jackson. Perhaps Doug Melvin can facilitate getting Granderson to another team needing a CF and we get E. Jackson for Gamel or McGehee and Schafer or Cain? It will take two guys to get Jackson. We now have to deal some of our OF strength with the acquisition of Gomez (Gomez, Gerut, Schafer, Cain, Gindl, etc.)
  8. Regardless of how each of us feel about individual players, the goal is for Milwaukee to build a winner. Per colbyjack the Crew is deep in the aforementioned minor league positions, so it is OK to thin down those spots if you can acquire a SP like Halladay. There are other drafts and 2009 selections which look good. I also agree and in fact would insist on a long term deal for Halladay if we give away too much. This is the first I have heard of Halladay wanting to have ST in Florida. To me, that is a bit short sighted on his part given he should be there for only 5 weeks per season. Hopefully that can be worked around.
  9. I'm all for Rich Harden, especially over Mulder. Why anyone in Milwaukee would want Reed Johnson is beyond me. After the Gomez deal, you'll have Carlos, Gerut, Schafer and Cain. No sense adding Johnson to that mix. Trade two of the four mention CF options for SP not another OF (I understand Reed is a FA).
  10. Well, yes several are insisting it is possible. Though anything is possible, I'm with you. There is no chance as I mentioned several months ago that Mulder returns to form. I can see the Crew getting him because of the Rick Peterson connection and the fact that Milwaukee seems to like these types of pick-ups. It would be better if the front office concentrated on getting real healthy pitching as opposed to trading for a CF or picking up a SP who has not pitched for 3 years . I sure hope they package one or two of our OF prospects including Gomez and/or Gerut for a #1. It may cost us Gamel, McGehee and/or Hart as well, but at least it is better than throwing 10 lbs of something on a wall hoping two stick (Mulder).
  11. Don't despair guys. There has to be more behind this move. My guess is either Gomez, Cain, Schafer and/or Gerut gets moved in a package deal for a Starting Pitcher.
  12. Colbyjack, You have been at this much longer than myself both watching the Brewers and reading Haurdicourt's work, but perhaps "Two Brewers" is correct? Why would the Milwaukee organization want to give away the store to Tom? The detail that guys like us crave are for the junkies like us and do not pertain to the average Brewer fan. If I were Doug Melvin, I would tell my staff not to divulge too much information for the reason "Two Brewers" mentioned. No need to give the competition information that might hinder our progress as an organization. Of course, I have no idea if Haurdicourt is just skating or hindered by the information flow he receives.
  13. OK, I'm on board (worth the risk) if we can get him for $2.0M, but I don't think that will happen. Please remember my earlier post about only averaging 98.5 games per year since 2005. You will not change the spots on a leopard, especially this one, so the $2.0M would turn into $3.3M. (162/98.5)*2.0M He just won't play a full season if not for behavior then for injury.
  14. This would be the absolute wrong thing to do bringing in Uncle Milty. Besides the injuries, attacking announcers and fans alike there is too much baggage. From an objective standpoint (2005 through 2009) he has only averaged playing in 98.5 games per year. That would not be smart.
  15. Colbyjack, sorry if you got that impression. I don't believe a "man of your esteem in the community" would ever hate on any of these young guys. I was simply stating an objective case for Schafer. From an offensive standpoint Gindl's overall stats are simply not as good regardless of age. Perhaps Caleb is the best prospect (Two Brewers words not yours), but not 2009's best hitter.
  16. If we are taking about prospect (2 yr age difference) that is understandable. I'm not even sure what the Award is named, but if it is for best hitter (2009) then if not Schafer it would have to go to someone else in the organization. .277 hitters are typically not your award winners even though Gindl's HR total in FSL was very impressive.
  17. colbyjack, with all due respect, you are wrong on Gindl versus Schafer. Though Gindl beat Schafer in two of the major offensive categories; HR's (17 vs. 6) and OPS (.822 vs. .815 which is virtually identical), Schafer beat Gindl on: 1) BA .313 vs. .277 (36 point difference) including winning the FSL batting title 2) Doubles 31 vs. 15 (more than 2X) 3) Triples 6 vs. 3 (2X) 4) Total bases 5) Strike outs (53 vs. 92 nearly half as few) If they want to pick hitter of the year on power than Caleb is your guy, but I believe hitter of the year starts with BA.
  18. I was not aware of this data, so thanks. It intuitively makes sense, but I will spend the weekend to study some more. I'm not sure runs produced (although ultimately the overall goal) really correlates to .OPS, i.e. OPS is a measure of TB's for an individual player and not how many runs were produced by the team? Any additional comments? Perhaps I'm just too slow mentally.
  19. Don't forget doubles or any other hit except a HR do not necessarily drive in a run. Therefore, I will subtract his 5 CS's and will double that to 10 because it erases his single which gave him the chance to steal (let's assume the attempted SB's are all of 2B, otherwise one could argue his TB's should drop even more). Now His 151 TB's are 201 instead of the 211 I argued earlier. SLG becomes .487 instead of .511 as argued (this now accounts for the CS's and the lost singles) So... .OBP .336+.SLG .487 = .823 .OPS Still pretty good. I don't care about XBH for a 2 hitter or 8 hitter which he is.
  20. Well I have stated my case for him. A least the BF staff recognizes it and have moved him to 43 versus Brewers' 41 ranking. Eric up 2 and Brent down 1 from the last ranking. For the record. I hear the low .OBP argument, but don't forget 60 SB's if you count them each as one for TB's raises his .SLG to .511 for an .OPS of .847 Pretty good for a 2B.
  21. It's raining hard here now. I'll be surprised if this one gets in. Gametime 55 min away.
  22. Oh, BTW, he is the 6th leading hitter in the FSL through tonight. Guys do develop and if this continues into AA next year, some tunes will have to change. He doesn't have the same "Potential" as Brewer, but his numbers are sure better. Production over Potential at some point. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=l_bat&lid=123
  23. I agree with Louis that a little too much stock is placed in high draft picks as I have mentioned before (Fredrickson and Dykstra from 2008) to name two. Fortunately, the staff after they see their performances drop, adjust accordingly, so I have no heartburn with the Kentrail Davis' of the world placed so high...but we shall see. After all this is subjective. Thanks for the extra work to the staff.
  24. Of course not! I checked at 12:15 am PDT then before I went to work and now every 20 min. Soon I will be out of a job over this silly thrill!
  25. "And That" and company must really be struggling with the rankings. Perhaps there is dissension amongst the ranks?
