  1. Lol, I'm probably just throwing fuel on the fire for those who hate this move, but Moustakas' day / night splits are drastic. And not in the way that he's likely to improve the Brewers record in day games. Playoff games are almost all night games, right?
  2. Please share your notes on those pregame fielding drills you were lucky enough to attend. That's awesome that you have such good access. Which member of the Brewers organization are you again?
  3. Well we know that's not true so they must really be convinced in what they've seen Shaw do practicing at 2B the past few weeks.
  4. Shaw at 2B is a risk I probably wouldn't have taken but they've seen him taking grounders and making turns there so I'll have to assume they're comfortable with what they saw. Two big pluses that hopefully aren't offset by weakened D... 1) The Brewers didn't give up much of anything notable imo. Both Phillips and Lopez showed themselves to be bottom of roster, AAAA types. Stearns has been a part of trading Phillips twice now. It's safe to say he didn't see much in him. 2) My favorite plus of this deal is: LESS HERNAN PEREZ!!! It should be at least. It better be.
  5. Probably would come down to package A with fewer prospect capital for both and their money owed or package B with more prospect capital in exchange for $$$ coming back from the O's.
  6. Good post. Agree particularly with the 2nd paragraph. Seconded. I think CHL is spot on. If you check the price on literally everything it's how you find the best value. Determine the price you're willing to pay and then stick to it. Over the course of 5 years you're going to make a lot of great deals that way. If the great deals present themselves in 2018, super. If not, they want to win in 2019, 2020, 2021, etc.
  7. The Machado talks supposedly centered on Ortiz and Phillips as a starting point and the Brewers were reportedly the runner-up offer so it would indicate Baltimore likes those two. Maybe Ortiz and Phillips nets Gausman and Schoop.
  8. More from McCalvy... Touches on the "stuff" Gausman possesses and alludes to the development issues Baltimore has which amt2138 mentioned earlier.
  9. Heck, with Schoop hitting in July like he did in 2017 when he put up .293 avg, 32 HR, 105 RBI, .841 OPS, 5.1 WAR, I'm gonna go ahead and just proclaim, get Gausman and Schoop and call it a day. This kinda feels like it's gonna happen. And soon.
  10. Yep, go from atrocious pitching program and terrible defense to a borderline magician pitching coach with a defense on the exact opposite end of the defensive spectrum. Could be a major swing in this guy's numbers.
  11. From Adam McCalvy on Twitter... I like the idea of putting this guy together with Derek Johnson and teaming that with a defense that gets to many more batted balls than he's been pitching with. This could be one of those huge upside acquisitions.
  12. That's the key aspect of the defensive runs saved stat. Many, many of those baserunners wouldn't have been baserunners with the Brewers defense swapped in for Baltimore's.
  13. We'll soon find out. If Stearns goes and gets this guy (or say Bundy), I think the defensive runs saved gap between the Brewers and Orioles is exactly what they're looking at.
  14. I posted this in the Schoop thread, but this could be why the Brewers would be interested in Gausman or any other Baltimore pitcher... From Paul Imig on Twitter July 7th... From Jerry Crasnick on Twitter July 7th... The Orioles defense is almost as bad as Philadelphia's. I know many see the high errors and don't think the Brewers defense is all that great, but the outfield range and range of Arcia at SS really turns a lot of hits into outs. Gausman or any other Baltimore pitcher could dramatically benefit from having this defense behind them.
  15. From Paul Imig on Twitter July 7th... From Jerry Crasnick on Twitter July 7th... The Orioles defense is almost as bad as Philadelphia's.
  16. Because with the Brewers defense behind him his ERA would be around 1.00-1.50 lower. At last check Baltimore's defense was Philadelphia Phillies bad.
  17. It is not time to simply "make a move for pitching" if the players who would make any kind of difference mean mortgaging the future.
  18. I'm guessing that if the former kkk white supremacist had posted things in social media in the past he has since gone back and deleted them or cancelled the account. This may have been a simple case by Hader of just not ever thinking about those old tweets and so never thinking about going out and deleting them, but it's still careless. Unfortunately, no matter what kind of person you are, you have to pay for being careless sometimes. Wow, now we're equating carelessness in covering up of old Tweets to actual vocal and physical actions of a white supremacist. A white supremacist who openly admitted to randomly beating African Americans for no reason other than the color of their skin. But you're sure that the former KKK deleted his old Tweets, so since he wasn't careless about covering his tracks on social media, and Hader was careless, we need Hader's blood! Let's get some perspective here people.
  19. I have a close friend who's father was killed in the Oak Creek Sikh Temple shootings. He's now best friends and works closely with a former KKK white supremacist. The latter has now completely turned his life around and now speaks out against hate and bigotry. People say and do stupid things, especially at a young age. People change. Those here who demand Hader pay a bigger price that what he did last night are completely dismissing the possibility that he is a dramatically different person at 24 than he was at 17. The reality is, most people are.
  20. That's pleasant. I, for one, will be happy if the team doesn't over pay for Machado (or any player). And I don't think anyone will blame Burnes for something he has no control over. Stearns and the front office? Sure, but not Burnes. As for pitchforks. I really don't see people freaking out. Sure there will be a few people who scream loudly and often, but whatever. But I honestly think most people on this site understand the organization's philosophy. I'll be glad they didn't give up Burnes in a Machado deal if that's what prevents the deal from going down. I think you're drastically underestimating the capabilities of people here to spew fire in any general direction they can if the Brewers don't make a big enough splash for their tastes. If word breaks that the Brewers could have had Machado if they had been willing to part with Burnes, every run Burnes gives up will bring out the wrath of a few loud folks here who would trade just about any prospect.
  21. One report that the Brewers odds of acquiring Machado have been lowered and the pitchforks are coming out. As I said about a week ago, can't wait until Burnes gives up a run and is castrated for being the reason we don't have Manny.
  22. I think Brown is getting overrated just a bit on here. I think soon enough you'll come to the realization that you were late seeing it with him.
  23. Unless they have data that shows Machado is fielding the position better at SS recently, I don't think he's worth an overpay. His range this year has been historically bad. If they can part with pieces they really don't believe in, then sure. His bat is so good that he's still a plus, plus player even with defensive deficiencies accounted for. Part of me thinks Stearns is in this to make sure someone else doesn't get Machado too cheap. I wouldn't be shocked if the Brewers trade for Machado. I would be absolutely shocked if they cave and trade someone like Burnes, Arcia, Peralta, Hiura, or Brown. I don't even take reports with those names seriously.
