  1. I've heard and read both sides of this story and what really tipped the scales for me was that picture Coghlan took with HY. That says it all right there. The ballplayer clearly was acting like a jag. Like many here he must think HY's hobby is strange. And from the look of that picture Goghlan no doubt had zero intention of making a gracious exchange. The guy couldn't put on a straight face for two secounds to take a damn picture even after he got his ball back. I'm sure these players have heard of stranger requests. I tend to think once they learned that HY was somewhat of a pro at this that's when they let their judgements of how worthy a human being he was get in the way of making a cordial trade.
  2. Precisely. You don't announce his name. The anticpation is all in the song. The bells tell you who's coming in. I really hope it doesn't take Trevor having to make another public plea for this to get done. You don't introduce someone when you're about to play a song that the whole world associates with said person.
  3. Look for Gamel to be brought up for the series at Minnesota to be our DH. At least according to Gammons... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4124710&name=gammons_peter
  4. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/brewers.html Good news on Rogers especially.
  5. I swear I read Macha's mind last night. When Nelson came up to pinch hit and promptly swung at every pitch thrown in his general vicinity, FSN cut to a shot of Macha writing a note on the paper he had in front of him. My immediate thought was that Macha was writing something along the lines of..."gotta get this kid a start, knock some of the rust off, get him to relax and feel like he doesn't have to hit one 600 feet because he only gets one AB a week" And sure enough he's out there today. I like it. Good luck Brad.
  6. Yost may have preached this but he rarely practiced it. He had a bad habit of using 5-6 pitchers to get the job done where 2-3 would have sufficed. You know the type of blowout games where it's just not neccessary to fire 5 bullets. Besides making a bunch of calls to the bullpen is like playing Russian roulette. The more you pull the trigger the more likely you'll pay for it. If you were forced to pull the trigger once and came through unscathed, why pull it again if you don't have to.
  7. I think the dynamic you speak of is a backhanded compliment to Macha. The fact he was getiing kudos even during the slow start is a testament to two things imo. One, he wasn't doing anything so egregious as to have blame for losses pinned on him. And two, his positive manuevers have been impactful enough that the "new guy" isn't the target of insults and blame after a slow start.
  8. When these stretches occur after April that's when maybe I'd be a little more worried. Managers tend to err on the side of caution with pitch counts this early. Not to mention the incredible back-to-back starts just put up the past two days. That helps put things at ease as well.
  9. Woohoo! ESPN MLB Gamecast has the Brewers chances of winning this game at 100%.
  10. Just win the dang game guys. Us fans have been through too much to lose one after a mispalyed DP ball to end it and a missed call at 1st by the ump to top it off.
  11. I hope I'm wrong but I have this bad feeling that Todd Coffey will have his 1st poor performance in a Brewer uniform in what will be his debut in a traditional save situation.
  12. Man, people sure were ready to bury Macha earlier. Going so far as to say that there was no difference between he and Yost. Well I think we can all say that there's no way Yost manages that game the same way Macha just did. That's doesn't guarantee Yost's way wouldn't have worked just the same, but I think we saw enough from him to have our doubts. That being said, the overwhelming majority of credit needs to go to Todd Coffey.
  13. Thanks to you Ennder as well. If my math is correct, the Mets were about 9.4% more likely to score in those situations than the Crew. That could be worth a game or two over the course of the season don't ya think? Anyway, it's nice to see Rickie get that insurance run in. Now, how about a routine inning to close it out for once?
  14. Brian Anderson just might have been reading this forum. His voice didn't go up even one octave on that 370 foot fly out to center by Hall.
  15. Good teams aren't perfect is pretty much what is missing here and I wasn't directing my post at anyone in particular. Good teams do this and that just gets thrown around a lot whenever anything goes wrong. Obviously no team comes through in that situation 100% of the time. Would you not say the Brewers rank below average though? I'd venture to guess that the Mets rank higher than the Brewers in terms of producing runs with runners in scoring position and less than two outs. I'd sure like to see this current crop of Brewers players improve in that area sometime before they hit free agency.
  16. True, good teams score runs there. Is this not true? And wouldn't it be normal for Mets fans to be let down in that situation. Am I missing something here? You two got some inside running joke about the content of others comments? Maybe we should lock these game threads to all but the very insightful Ennder and rluzinski.
  17. Wow. I wanted to keep it a one word post, since "Wow" kinda says it all. But since that's frowned upon I'll add that ESPN MLB Gameday swung our odds of winning from 43% to 74% with that DP. Nice job Coffey. And props to Macha for using his best reliever in the most important spot regardless of inning.
  18. Well that pretty much cemented the choice to send him back out there as a poor one.
  19. I agree with you guys to an extent. But one thing to consider is the fact that our bullpen hasn't been a whole lot better than Suppan. Someone has to step up and pitch deep into a game. Hopefully it's today.
  20. After that half inning, ESPN MLB Gamecast has the Brewers chances of winning today at 56%. Baby steps!
