  1. I gotta admit this has all caught me off guard. Both the criticism of Attanasio and the resignation to the premise that he's not in for the long haul. And I'm really surprised that some think our "next" owner will be right on par if not an upgrade. Deep pockets aren't exactly in abundance around here. And outsiders who have 'em don't always think very highly of Milwaukee. Besides, all the money in the world doesn't make a good owner. Look at Daniel Snyder or the guy who was the runner-up the last time the Brewers were sold.
  2. A whole lot of baseless, unchecked claims being made about the owner who turned around our favorite baseball team yet this site is too embarrassed to be caught hosting a vent thread.
  3. Career suicide. Bad manager + Bad team = Yost's last managerial job He would have been better off biding his time until a team with talent was dumb enough to think Milwaukee made the playoffs in 2008 because of him and not in spite of him.
  4. How soon we forget. Yost was a master at using 6 pitchers when 3-4 would suffice.
  5. I'm confused with the give him a couple more starts sentiment. What, so he can progress from punching everyone in the face with the reality that he's done to employing a power tool to drill into everyone's heads the reality that he's done? I swear the guy could issue a public statement stating that even he knows he's no longer a major league pitcher and there would be people saying give him a couple more starts.
  6. It's absolutely criminal that Jeff Suppan has a spot on the roster much less a spot in the rotation. Especially with a multitude of better options for the pitching staff.
  7. Wow, the Brewers are all kinds of suck right now. The one hope I have is that they're substituting their usual late season funk for an early one this year. All these hot starts the past few years really haven't gotten them much.
  8. ^^^ Gimme a break. If the guy had a couple texas leaguers or bleeders through the hole, no one would complaining right now.
  9. My thought is that Edmonds is being overused and that it will become obvious to all by the end of the month should he continue to get the majority of playing time.
  10. Johnson is the major league caliber player right now that we hope Gamel will become someday. And he's exactly the type of pitcher the Brewers should be targeting in a trade. And I like Gamel. Aside from last year's flirt with Halladay, this is only the second trade proposal I've been on board with including Gamel.
  11. First snow falling here in Hartford. It's odd because I look at the calendar and it was still technically summer less than 3 weeks ago. Meanwhile the calendar says winter isn't due to arrive for another 2+ months. It's official: Winter is now a 6 month season in Wisconsin. Spring goes from April through June. Summer is now a month and a half. And fall goes from mid-August through September. I gotta get the hell outta here.
  12. I think you missed where I said about 10 different times that I could care less how this affects JJ and wanted to see Escobar replace him many weeks ago.
  13. JJ stinking it up sure would makes things interesting and might make the team more willing to take the heat. But alas, expanded rosters will most likely take JJ off the hook.
  14. Players union my friend. If all the teams decided to go ahead and make moves to cost veterans service time, then sure no team would risk standing out in a negative light. But then of course we'd be back to the MLBPA and the poop fit they'd raise over such a colluded effort.
  15. All they have to do is recall JJ before the 20 days, take advantage of expanded rosters, continue to play Escobar the majority of the time, and no unwritten no-no's will have been committed. That's exactly what I expect to see. And I'll be happy because if my scenario plays out, then the only thing I care about in all this will have happened. That one thing of course being giving Escobar the everyday job at SS.
  16. So you think being the only team that sends down 5 year vets, timing-specific to costing them a year of service time, is best for business? I see. Agree to disagree. This will all be moot when the Brewers prove they do not see it as in their best interest and JJ is recalled before the 20 days expires.
  17. I said this before but its because when holding back a minor leaguer it is affecting a rookie. A rookie who hasn't put in his time. And players know that if the minor leaguer plays well enough to force their hand, the team will have no choice but to eventually call him up. This is putting off free agency for a 5 year vet who has put in his time. It's similar to the NFL. The players union will probably put up very little fight to a rookie salary slotting system. It will hurt players as they enter into the league, but help disperse more money to veterans. It's all about the rookie versus veteran side of the equation. And again, I ask if it wasn't considered a no-no, and didn't have negative consequences why wouldn't it happen all the time? Why wouldn't teams out of contention send down all players with options every year at this time to put off their FA by another year? The fact it doesn't happen, EVER, should provide all the answer anyone would need.
  18. Yeah, probably not. It's debatable whether the backlash from (at minimum) the player and agent would be worth the extra year. I cannot stress enough how little I care from JJ's perspective. He could have played better and avoided all of this. I'm just convinced that it's looked at as bad practice to send down 5 year vets just in time to cost them a service year. Look at it this way, if it didn't come with a price why wouldn't more teams do it? What's to stop a team out of contention from sending down all of its players with options remaining at this point every year? It sounds like something the Marlins would be all over if it didn't have negative consequences.
  19. From TH to me: "Again, believe me, I have this 20-day thing correct. I've spoken to Hardy and he said the agent called Melvin to talk about it. They're very aware of what's at stake. And they hope the Brewers aren't playing games with them." It doesn't sound like it will be no big deal if the Brewers leave him down there long enough to cost him a year. And here I thought I was just imagining that it would. As for what day he needs to be back to ensure keeping his year, I have officially given up. TH swears its 20 days and you lose a year. But there's also the issue as to when the clock starts, today or tomorrow. All I know is that I fully expect JJ to be back in time to keep his service year in tact. MLB transactional rules are a pain in the rear.
  20. I see a potential one and you don't. Let's leave it at that. As for the Brewers, JJ Hardy, and his agent, it sounds like they're keen to a potential problem as well. But why on Earth would I think that the awareness of this issue expressed by those parties means anything at all?
  21. Btw, if what I just read is true, that a player accrues service time through the date of assignment, then the clock doesn't even start until tomorrow. That might mean that the Brewers could wait until 9/2 and JJ would still get his year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not even a big JJ fan. I've been hoping they'd go with Escobar for some time now. And I could care less about how this affects JJ personally. I am interested in clearing up the confusion about the rule and the timing regarding this move. And I definitely see a downside for the Brewers if they make an obvious attempt to put off a players free agency.
  22. Fine, just ignore the black mark it would give the organization with players, agents and the union.
  23. Are we still at the point of not realizing the crap storm it would stir up if the Brewers were to intentionally wait one extra day or two to bring him back up just to put off his FA for a year. A grievance would probably be filed and it would definitely hurt the Brewers reputation with players, agents, and union leaders. Not something needed by a team that already has a hard enough time establishing itself as a go-to destination for players. Expect JJ back in the majors by September 1 at the latest.
  24. Of course. And they could wait until the 3rd or 4th too. But putting 2 and 2 together and listening to what Brewers brass has been saying it seems pretty likely that he's back here on 9/1.
  25. For one, that's when rosters expand and you no longer face the numbers crunch of having so many middle infielders on the roster. And two, it sounds like exactly what they're planning to do. I heard Macha on the pregame say they'll probably have JJ down there until the end of the month. I doubt it's a coincidence that he just happened to volunteer that it will likely be only until the end of August, especially since that info wasn't solicited in the question asked.
