  1. It's true, the Brewers have made it so there are no winners in this instance.
  2. The good news is that if we continue down this path we might actually see the Brewers go out and hire a real major league manager in the offseason.
  3. I suppose there are plenty of fine people in New York and Philadelphia elated with what's transpiring in Cincinnati. I use the word "suppose" because I have yet to be convinced that there are indeed fine people living in those two places. I don't know what the people of Milwaukee did to deserve this fate over the last 26 years, but it's awfully disheartening.
  4. Besides, with the way Jeff Suppan is pitching right now, the last thing on your mind should be worrying about accepting that jersey.
  5. Are you kidding me? If the Brewers make the playoffs I'll wrap that baby up and send it out to you with a giant smile on my face through it all. Packing that jersey means I have playoff baseball to enjoy for the first time in my life. That's worth far more to me than any piece of memorabilia. Rickie Weeks could get the playoff clinching hit or go on to have a Hall of Fame career, and I promise I'd never regret it. If the Brewers make the playoffs you're getting that jersey.
  6. Believe me, your line of thinking is right in step with the way I usually approach things. I just don't think I could sneak another $25 past my wife without feeling her wrath since I pledged the first $25 two days before having my job eliminated.
  7. I already donated $25 to bf.net. And if the Crew takes the Reds series, there's a reasonable chance that they'll be right in the thick of the wildcard race. I'm not putting up the jersey for 7-2 or worse. I'm putting it up for making the playoffs regardless of their record over the final nine. If they somehow back in, even going 2-7, BCU gets the jersey. I'm putting something up for absolutely nothing in return and have a near 33% chance of being wrong. BCU leaving the boards isn't any sort of prize for me. If I'm right, I get nothing but another year gone by with no playoff baseball.
  8. I have yet to see anything stating that CC is definitely starting tomorrow and time will tell if you send your big prize to BrewCityUnit if and when the Crew make the playoffshttp://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/09/19/sabathia-on-short-rest-saturday.aspxhttp://blogs.jsonline.com...-short-rest-saturday.aspx Brian or any moderator can ban me if they do not get word from BCU that he received said jersey.
  9. Great point! Not so much since he was wrong on both accounts.
  10. Maybe it's because I'm aware that CC is starting on Saturday, not Sunday, and that there are no guarantees no matter how well he pitches that the Brewers will win the game. It's nothing against BCU. I've just seen these kind of proclamations / predictions made in so many places, covering a wide variety of sports and events, and I don't think I've ever seen one pan out. What usually happens is the proclamation falls well short, other topics take over the spotlight, the poster quietly disappears, and then most likely reappears anonymously under a different screename a few weeks later. I'm so sure that not only will the Brewers not go 8-1, they won't make the playoffs no matter what their record over the next 9 games is. I'll gladly send BCU my autographed, authentic Rickie Weeks jersey if the Brewers make the playoffs regardless of their record the next week and a half. Yes, even if the Crew makes it in going 2-7 over their last nine. Even if they get in on the last day of the season via a walkoff grand slam by none other than Rickie Weeks. An autographed Weeks jersey may not be highly sought after right now, but it's worth more than a screename. And since I'm out of work right now, it's the best I can afford to do.
  11. BrewCityUnit will be making his self-imposed exit from the boards by Sunday afternoon at the latest.
  12. Methinks you deciphered Pinella-speak quite accurately.
  13. It's not necessarily being in the doghouse if there are better options. Don't forget about the second part of the quote. He's not going to put you out there to fail if things aren't clicking. If either of those two show signs of life, they'll be right back out there. One thing is for sure, Shouse would not be in there walking lefties to face righties.
  14. This is what I like about Pinella and in my mind what makes him lightyears better than Yost... "Two things I don't do," Piniella said. "I don't manage with hunches and I don't have a doghouse." In other words, Piniella said, in weighing lineup options he believes strongly in how a hitter has performed against a pitcher over a legitimate period of time-at least a dozen at-bats. "I try to keep percentages in our favor as much as possible," Piniella said. "I believe in data, the more data the better. Baseball is a percentage game. If you can keep the percentages on your side, you're going to win more games than you lose. It's my job to put 25 men in the best position to win. After that you get out of their way and let their talent take over. You're not doing them any favors when you set them up to fail in an attempt not to hurt their feelings." My goodness, if Yost was like this in any way at all, he might still be here.
  15. Yep with some dude named L Montz up to bat. It don't look promising. And now pinch hit for with R Bernadina, carrying a .148 BA.
  16. Yep with some dude named L Montz up to bat. It don't look promising.
  17. They can hit a little too. Yep, and since they went "Yankees" on us prior to 2007 they can afford to bench their $50 million RF without blinking. I feared this outcome in the offseason 2 years ago and it's been 2 years of my worst fears being realized. Who knows, if the Cubs continued to go about their business the way they did prior to 2007, the Brewers might be going for back to back division titles right now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  18. Jiminy christmas the Cubs have an embarassing wealth of pitching.
  19. Associated injuries with forearm tightness, tingling, numbness, discomfort, etc... Ulnar nerve injury (elbow) Median nerve injury (arm, elbow, hand) Shingles Insect bite Chemical burn Spinal stenosis Broken wrist So unless Sheets came down with shingles, was bitten by a Black Widow, spilled some acid on his arm, broke his wrist, or has narrowing of the spine, I'm gonna go ahead and get prepared for word that Sheets is slated for Tommy John. In all seriousness, I hope it's just a cramp like it always is with Zambrano.
  20. I'm just waiting for someone to find the link where it says that forearm tightness is usually a sign of a shredded ulnar collateral ligament. That's pretty much how I'm accustomed to this thing going with Brewer pitchers. Carlos Zambrano on the other hand, has forearm tightness 2-3 times a year and all he does is either make his next start or take a few extra days off and throw a no-hitter.
  21. If this injury puts Sheets on the shelf for the season, it actually kind of makes me glad that the team folded the last two weeks. It allowed me to gradually go through the 5 stages of Brewer grief. Riding high and then having this injury occur would have been devastating. Having the season come to an end over the span of two weeks is a heck of a lot easier than seeing it end in an instant. As it is, this still stinks, but since I'm already in the acceptance stage I'm taking this news in stride. Ahhh, thus is the life of a Brewer fan.
  22. Part of me is sad knowing that will be the last time seeing Ben Sheets pitch in a Brewer uniform. The other part of me is looking forward to not having to ride on the edge of a cliff every season with the team's hopes riding on him.
  23. On Friday my employer informed me that due to a lack of growth in market share they were suspending sales in the Chicago territory. Unfortunately for me that was my delivery zone. Despite our sales rep devoting up to 75% of his time and efforts on expanding our presence down there, we were failing in our attempt to tap into the highly competitive and oversaturated Chicago market. We just couldn't be competitive with the local companies down there and their pricing. With fuel prices where they are we just couldn't cut it, when in order to take some of the sales away from our competitors we'd have to sell supplies down there at a loss. At least that's the way things we're explained to me when I was given the option to relocate at the end of the day yesterday. What does this mean for me? Well, since I have no desire to uproot my family for a second time in 3 years and thereby take my wife away from a good job she enjoys, I am, for the time being, without a job. And living in Hartford without a steady paycheck, it's just not feasible to burn the gas required of a 45 minute drive each way from home to field on Tuesday and Thursday nights. What I had been doing was staying in the area after work on those nights. Now without job and a natural reason to be in the Greenfield area on gamedays, I just can't justify the expense of travel with now 50% of my household income wiped off the table. I'm sorry to let Luke and the rest of you down. But my focus now has to be on finding a new job. I have a few leads already so I'm sure I get back on my feet soon enough. All the best and good luck. You guys are right on the cusp of turning the corner. The bats are there. Get your feet under you defensively and the wins will start to pile up.
