  1. Was he ever in the organization, or was it in the same sense that the Cubs once has control over Tim Lincecum, as a late round draft pick who never signed?
  2. Sounds like former White Sox clser Shingo Takatsus one unhittable out pitch. The problem with a ball in the low 80s is once the hitters start catching up to it, it probably doesnt stay in the yard.
  3. Seems like the one thing Cubs and Brewers fans will always agree on is that LaRussa is a massive D Bag.
  4. Somebody doesnt know JP Ricciardi very well. He'll juice the hell out of your farm system for Halladay.
  5. Ive been saying the same thing for the Cubs ever since Mike Fontenot started sucking, which was like after the 1st week. Why does Durham not have a job yet? Granted, hes not the best defensive player on earth by any means, but as far as second basemen go, hes always been one of the better offensively. Hes a switch hitter too, which Piniella loves, but apparently he prefers scrappy white ones who cant hit their way out of a paper bag. Almost always OPSs in the .800s accept for an off 2007.
  6. Vitters would be the key. They also have had interest in Aaron Heilman in the past, and Sean Marshall. While these are far from top shelf pitching prospects, they are young major league ready pitchers, which is what they want. Besides, when you're dealing with a topof the line pitching prospect like David Price or Tommy Hanson, no team in their right mind is going to move a guy like that no matter whose on the block. The Angels rumoredly had offered a deal centered around Jared Weaver, but Peavy was demanding an NL team at that time, when narrowed down to the Braves who lost interest due to the Pads demand for Tommy Hanson, the Dodgers, who they would ask too much from due to it being in their own division, and the Cubs, who almost got the deal done, but our mighty GM dropped the ball.
  7. In the case of Peavy, the main piece is money. Peavys salary is a whopping 30% of the Padres pay roll, so if The Cubs are willing to take on the remainder of that contract, and pitch them a few decent young players in the process, the Pads can then go out and rebuild during the offseason. This thing in the off season was that they were forcing Towers to move Peavy of Giles, both of whom have full NTCs. Giles didnt want to waive his for anyone. Peavy had a select list, which he eventually narrowed down to the Cubs and Braves. They asked too much from the Braves, who eventually got Javier Vazquez and Derrek Lowe, and lost interest. At that point, it was the Cubs or bust. Both Jim Hendry and Kevin Towers each played like they had leverage, and in the end, no deal got done.
  8. Eric Bedard would probably be more attainable than Peavy. Sorry, definitely. The Ms are rumoredly planning a fire sale by mid season if they dont get off too a good start, with Bedard, Adrian Beltre, Miguel Batista, and Jarrod Washburn the first on the block. I wonder if Melvin has the cahoneys to swing a blockbuster for Bedard and Beltre. Hed probably have to give up at least 1 of Escobar or Gamal, and then some, but it could put you guys back into contention. The problem with that is, when they, along with Hardy, Weeks, and Fielder become free agents in the next few years, it's back to the drawing board.
  9. If it makes you guys feel any better, if we(Cubs) do land Peavy, we wont have the assets to pull off another major trade or signing for years to come
  10. Just curious, because it makes sense. Hypothettically speaking, if we(Cubs) get Peavy, the Yankees or Dodgers sign C.C., Milwaukee would be a perfect spot for Dempster. He loves Chicago, and Milwaukees like an hour and change away. Hes seeking a 4 year deal, and he could be a hell of a lot cheaper than CC would be, allowing you to go out and fill a few more needs. In my mind, that makes perfect sense. Yeah, CC was amazing for you guys down the stretch, but lets face it, The Crew have some holes to fill, and if they blow the hole wad on one guy, no matter how good he is, and how happy it would make the fans, would that really be good in the long run?
  11. If Fielder were to be invleved in a trade for Peavy, it would probably have to involve a 3rd team. With Adrian Gonzales holding down 1st, they probably dont have a need for a player like Fielder. Also, the Pads are a team do for a complete makeover, and would probably demand Gamel. Gamel and Parra could very well do the trick, and then the Brewers could find a way to aquire a number 3 or 4 starter and be legit contenders again. The question is, would Peavy waive his NTC to go to Milwaukee. Remember, teams like the Yankees and Mets are going to want him just as much and probably be able to match any Brewers offer not involving one of their top prospects.
  12. It wont matter when negotiations start, he knows what the market for quality pitchers is like. When you have 4-5 starters like Marquis, Suppan, and now Lohse making between 9-10 mil, Lowe is goiong to want a 4 year deal, probably at around 12-13 mil a year. Depending on what happens with the AJ Burnett situation, Lowe will probably be the second most persued starter in the off season.
  13. If you guys want Lowe, and I dont blame you, you better hope that the Yankees somehow manage to sign CC. If they dont, Lowe is next on their list, and I cant see The Brewers, or any other team having a shot in hell at outbidding them, especially when they'll end up giving him a ridiculous contract that will screw up the market for pitchers more than the Kyle Lohse deal already has. Brewers may end up settling for a John Garland or Paul Byrd type, which wouldnt be horrible as a number 3, as long as Dave Bush or Princes Punching Bag turn out to be a legit number 2.
  14. I didnt realise that Counsell was 38 years old. wow. Still hes one of those players out there whose stats are never remotely impressive, but everytime I turn around, they get a big hit.Maybe its just vs. the Cubs. Our pitching can never take care of those little scrappers.
  15. You know who would love that trade proposal? Us Cubs fans. Bye bye Fielder. Seriously, Sherill strikes me as one of those 1 year wonder type closers *coupfdankolb* *couphderrickturnbow*. Melvin Mora is well into decline mode. Brian Roberts is the only one of those guys worth anything, and you could probably have him in a deal revolving around Ricky Weeks or Bill Hall, and still have Fielder as a trading chip for a front of the rotation type pitcher.
  16. as a Cubs fans, while Ryan Theriot did silence his pre season critics for the most part who felt he had no buisness in the starting lineup for a contending team, hes not as untouchable as some would think. If I were to play GM for a moment, I wouldnt have much interest in Ricky Weeks, but would anyone out there feel a Ryan Theriot, Sean Marshall, and maybe a lower pitcher such as Mike Wuertz or Kevin Hart for JJ Hardy acceptable?
