  1. It definitely enhances things, but performance is not one of them.
  2. If the Brewers want a solid starter, they're going to have to give up someone like Hart or Hardy. Theyve deemed Escobar and Gamel untouchable, so even if they want something like a Jarrod Washburn, they better be ready to give up someone of value, especially now that Peavy and Bedard are on the DL, and might be down past the deadline, other starters that might have been cheaper to aquire previously will be going up in price. A lot of contenders are in need of starting pitching. Makes one wonder if they could try to mend the bridge with Ben Sheets.
  3. Is Chris Capuano on track to return at any time, or is he on his way to Mark Priorville?
  4. The only time Ive ever seen opposing fans take over Wrigley was last weekend when the Twins were in town. I swear to God it was Metrodome South. As for fans taking over the opposing teams park, its all about market size. You guys notice it more with Cubs fans because of the division, but Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Dodgers fans do it all the time. Brewers have great fans, but for the most part, they're localized in Wisconsin, and they dont have quite the legions that it takes to overcome the home crowd.
  5. Cubs fans all talk about missing Mark DeRosa, and hendry never should have given him up, which is all true, but Id take Casey McGhee back in a heartbeat over the carousel of trash that weve seen replace Ramirez sinec he went down. Then again, Id take Casey Stengel over them too.
  6. The thing about the Cubs is yes, the other teams have allowed them to stay close in the division. While they could conceivably pull it together and be in first by the ASB or sooner, the Brewers and/or Cards are also a hot streak away from pushing them to 10 games back in that same time frame. IMHO, the only team in baseball that I can legitamately see running away with their division early on is the Dodgers.
  7. The Astros have a very solid lineup, especially when Kaz gets back Bourne Kaz Pense Lee Berkman Tejada Pudge whoever P Is very solid. If they can get another solid starter, they will be a serious threat.
  8. The thing about our division is there is no top dog. If the Pirates has kept Bay, Nady, and McClouth, they could very well be in contion. As it is now, aside from the Pirates, theres nobody who could win the division that would shock me. -Brewers have a great, but inconsistant offense. The pitching staff has surprised many, starting and pen, but we'll see how long they keep it up. -The Cubs "murderers row" offense has proved to be anything but. If were 5 games or less out when Ramirez comes back, I still think were the fav. Starting staff has been steller, and the pen, though shaky has looked great at times. -Cards have the best hitter in the game, and one of the top 5 pitchers when healthy, and Adam Wainwright is great as well. Other than that, that team is not very good, and have been playing well above their heads most of the season. -Reds are hard to tell. If that pitching staff can be productive, its great. Good closer, but the rest of the pen is mediocre at best aside from Masset and sometimes Weathers -Astros have a very potent offense. Tejada, Pence, Lee, Berkman, Pudge is among the best in the NL. However, their pitching is not good(I guess the Cubs would try to tell you otherwise) aside from Oswalt and Wandy at home -The Pirates are the Pirates. Right now, they dont have a lot of good players. When one of their players gets good, he'll be traded.
  9. Ummm...yes! Have you seen the Cubs' bullpen overall, or the way he is used? From an impact standpoint, it would be the equivalent of Hoffman becoming very ineffective for the Brewers...maybe worse. Forces everyone else to have to do things they probably are not cut out for. When he doesn't pitch well, that team is bad. Of course Zambrano, Dempster are important, but my point is, if Marmol isn't Marmol, none of that matters because the Cubs are already cooked. Im not going to lie, the way Marmol has been this year, if it werent for Angel Guzman finally steping up after years of hype and injuries, the pen would be screwed. The thing about Marmol is he isnt trashed. He still has his stuff. When he gets the ball over the plate, even the best hitters end up looking foolish. Hopefully its just a phase like the one he went through last July.
  10. Fontenot, Theriot, or Miles? You have to be more specific when refering to the midget. I suppose you can narrowit down to 2, because Cubs fans are the only ones fearfull when Miles comes to the plate with anything on the line.
  11. Everyone sees their own team from a certain point of view, when their hot, you see them through rose colored glasses, when their cold, they're all horrible. However, opponents fans usually view them pretty much the same at all times. For instance, with the Brewers, everyone fears Braun and Fielder, but as for the others, I always fear Jason Kendall. Granted, hes an easy out for every other team, but hes always been a thorn in the Cubs side, even when he was on the team. Also, Craig Counsells a pain, because the Cubs always have trouble with the gritty white guys. Is there anyone on the Cubs who you guys consistantly fear, in its current configuration? Im just curious how they look from someone elses point of view.
  12. The only thing scary about Jeff Samrdzijajaja is that damn no trade clause of his. Stupid Jim Hendry and his stupid Noter Dame obsession.
  13. I get the feeling that by the trade deadline, someone will end up overpaying for Branyan, and he'll go back to being Russell Branyan.
  14. It seems that a lot of the non Pujols or Carpenter Cardinals are really showing their true colors lately such as Ankiel, Ludwick, and their bullpen. Good to see.
  15. Like the rest of the season and questionable for next?Too bad our brilliant GM hadnt signed Adam Dunn and let Milton be Tamba Bay or Washingtons problem. I dont understand the logic behind signing a guy who they new at the start would be luckt to get 100 games in over the guy who hit a home run every time he comes to bat at Wrigley.
  16. Do the Pirates have any intention of winning ever? Everytime they get a half way decent player, they go ahead and trade him for whatever they can get. Imagine if theyhad Aramis Ramirez, Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Nate McClouth, Adam Laroche, and Freddy Sanchez together. They could actually contend.
  17. By the time Vitters is ready, the Cubs and Brewers will be back to there old selves, duking it out for 4th or 5th place
  18. Tampa Bay(pretty much the whole team minus Pena and Kasmir), Boston(Youk, Pedroia, Lester, Papelbon), The Dodgers(Kemp, Loney, Martin, Billingsly, Broxton) and Phillies(Rollins, Howard, Utley, Hamels) are the only ones in that same league. Problem with Fox is if hes going to make it, it will be as a DH who can occasionally start at first base. Througout his 6 years in the minors, hes always had a bat, but hes been tried at C, 1st, 3rd and both corner outfield positions, and the only 1 he hasnt been brutal at was 1st, and even there he was below average. I could see a rebuidling team like Baltimore or Seattle showing interest, but woulndt offer all that much. Also, Pinella seems to have it out for him. He seems to be the last option off the bench every time.
  19. So you thinking Fox and prospects for Bedard? LOL, that would be nice, but Im thinking more Russell Branyan to fill in while Ramirez is out and then be a backup/pinch hitter or Dennys Baez of Jim Johnson to fix that dreadfull bullpen of ours.
  20. Randy Wells is doing well for us, although he'll never get a win because the bullpen hates him. Seriously though, Brewers are the last ones who should be "jealous" of any teams prospects, as prett much everyone they bring up turns to gold. Jake Fox is another you might want to watch out for, although Im betting that by July hes DHing in Baltimore or Seattle or some black hole like that.
  21. With teams like the Natspos, its a catch 22. By that, I mean as long as they suck, top free agents wont want to go there(unless they become desperate IE Adam Dunn), and until they get top free agents, they wont be able to get good, unless they get some good players out of their farm system, as The Rays did, The Brewers did and the Royals are starting to do, but even then once these players start entering free agency, they cant compete with the big market teams to retain these players.
  22. I agree with this, only in the reverse. My biggest fear was that the Brewers or Cards were going to get Peavy. However, at this point most signs are pointing to Peavy rejecting the deal.
  23. Beware Brewer Fans. As the ghost of bad contracts to mediocre pitchers who had one good year, I beg you to take heed of Ryan Dempster, Oliver Perez, and Jose Contreres. Oh yeah, and the guy who got a huge deal after one awesome post season.
