  1. Well that is depressing! I'll keep hope alive.
  2. With all the excitement over the rebuild, I started to think about 2018 season. Seems to be when most hope/believe that we will begin to be seriously competitive. Here's my best guess for what the roster will look like at the major positions and the players age at the time: SP 1. Josh Hader (24 years old) 2. Zach Davies (25 years old) 3. Jimmy Nelson (29 years old) 4. Junior Guerra (33 years old) - he's a young 33 haha 5. veteran free agent signing? Knocking on the door or bullpen Jacob Barnes (28 years old) Corey Knebel (26 years old) Damien Magnifico (27 years old) Brandon Woodruff (25 years old) Phil Bickford (23 years old) Cody Ponce (24 years old) free agent free agent free agent Position Players 1st Base: Ryan Braun (34 years old) 2nd Base: Jonathan Villar (27 years old) SS: Orlando Arcia (23 years old) 3rd Base: Hernan Perez (27 years old) Catcher: ??? free agent old man? Left Field: Domingo Santana (25 years old) Center Field: Lewis Brinson (23 years old) Right Field: Brett Phillips (24 years old) Bench/knocking at the door: free agent utility veteran free agent Scooter Gennet free agent free agent? No idea about bench.
  3. I have watched him since he played his first game with Brevard County. No need to panic, no need for concern. Sure, there are growing pains and he said after his first game, there is a big difference between college and pro ball. He knew it was going to take time to adjust and he deserves that time. He is not taking wild swings, he's making plays in the OF and he will be everything a 1st -round pick should be, at least in my estimation. As you said, it's a small sample size, but he has shown glimpses of what he's capable of. I think he will be fine. Not only that, but he's got his head on straight and he's a down-to-earth kid. One of the best interviews I've done in my two years covering the team. Thanks for the first hand insight.
  4. 1. Josh Hader 2. Orlando Arcia 3. Lewis Brinson 4. Lucas Erceg 5. Phil Bickford 6. Corey Ray 7. Trent Clark 8. Isan Diaz 9. Luis Ortiz 10. Brett Phillips 11. Brandon Woodruff 12. Marcos Diplan 13. Cody Ponce 14. Kodi Medeiros 15. Wei-CHung Wang 16. Jake Gatewood 17. Jorge Lopez 18. Freddy Peralta 19. Monte Harrison 20.Jacob Nottingham 21. Aaron Wilkerson 22. Jon Perrin 23. Chad McLanahan 24. Gilbert Lara 25. Corbin Burnes
  5. Or as my wife put it, "Why did they trade 3 really good guys for a bunch of rookies?!?!" Needless to say, she was even more bummed when I explained actually they're not even rookies yet. "Next year?" she asked hopefully. Nope. Haha good stuff.
  6. I agree, his arm is likely in great shape but the rest of his body is not balanced out, starting with his legs.
  7. How is the topic not at least broached with lucroy prior to spending all this time negotiating with the Indians???
  8. Didn't see him but feel like FSWI purposely avoiding dugout and wide lens
  9. Smith in to pitch. Sick of hearing Mets. Want them out of conversation.
  10. Post August 1, I want Flores released or sent down if he has options. Least favorite Brewer i think. No power, 95% of his contact is weak grounder to right side. Pedestrian speed.
  11. Pirate's are three back in wild card. What's the logic behind this move?
  12. I would bet that's a hurdle that has been crossed long ago.
  13. Refresh Refresh Refresh! Sorry to disappoint others refreshing with this non-relevant post.
  14. My layman's opinion is that he's a big guy without elite fast twitch muscles. He's strong and smooth but doesn't have much plate coverage and has some holes in his swing.
  15. Cervilli down...would we trade within the division??
  16. So exciting! But also a little sad.
  17. Have been since Lucroy left Arizona with the team. I think Stearns is asking too much and everyone has moved on to cheaper options. Then he trades him during the off season. Yep. Never back down!! If he leaves in a year then we get a compensation pick.
  18. I hope that Stearns and Matt Arnold are looking at every single instructor, coach, and manager in the farm system and looking at their track records. Look at their history. Who have they instructed and coached? How did they work out? I feel bad for anyone losing a job, but we all are accountable in our jobs. If there are instructors where players are not developing, then that needs a very close look. We have had some poor drafting to be sure, but the other side of it is player development. I suspect we can identify some coaches and instructors who have had too many pedigreed players who have not worked out. We need much better results on player development. Sure, you can factor in circumstances such as aggressive placement and what have you. But let's look at each coach/instructor and see what the results are. . . Completely agree. It has seemed like an organizational failure in the minors this year. It is just too wide spread. VERY few bright spots - I can't even come up with one right now. Hader I guess. The failures and/or slumping players are widespread.
  19. We have to get out of Colorado springs
  20. Yeah this is exactly what this season is for. Give a scrap heap veteran a chance to build some value and then immediately flip him. Either that or play young guys and we're doing both! Keep it coming. Edit: nice story on Wilkerson. https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2016/06/30/the-long-and-winding-road-aaron-wilkerson/HTmyAqAeMpz9XW16bVZMgP/story.html
  21. So this is just a temporary move for Davies because he has options?
  22. Throw in Jorge Lopez in triple a.
  23. Agreed. Who cares if grown men fight? Potential for injury? Meh. Maybe Grienke got injured in a brawl? Can't remember any others. I love brawls. Good fun.
