  1. Grounder into the hole, Castro actually made a pretty nice play and got off a pretty good hard throw. Beat Yuni by about a half step.
  2. Excellent. For some reason or another, I still feel like Casey will kill the ball every at bat against the Cubs. We're all frustrated Casey, but we're cheering harder for you than just about anybody.
  3. One pitch, one grounder through the infield...C'mon Crew, I rarely get to watch a game.
  4. A few years ago I didn't even enjoy watching games against the Scrubs because it was so gut-wrenching. At this point though they're so bad I just don't feel the rivalry like I used to. Of course it's still fun to hammer the sCrUBS though!
  5. Horchata has become my new go-to summer beverage. It's incredibly refreshing and it's not too sweet to drink over the course of a long afternoon.
  6. You forgot that Green ran over Attanasio's dog with that car, and then went on to reverse over the dog again and again and again. Snuggles didn't stand a chance...
  7. I noticed that his UZR totals were pretty good this season as well. My understanding is that there's a decent amount of subjectivity in UZR so data from <1 season can often have some general goofiness going on. DRS has him at -5. I'm sure someone like rluzinski can explain this better than I can though. UZR does has him at about -10 for the past three seasons though. Edit: Ambiguous wording.
  8. The game is also on WGN tonight, so us chumps who left Wisconsin can enjoy the lovely announcing of Len and Bob. Well, either that or put on MLB radio.
  9. http://www.noiseaddicts.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/dee_snider_twisted_sister.jpgMiss the 80's? I don't buy that for a second!
  10. I was just going through some of her Youtube videos and I have to say I had no idea she was that talented. She really did have a heck of a voice. Edit: RockCo, I also hadn't realized that was the case with Cobain. Being younger I had always just assumed they were astronomically popular even before his death, given the sales of Nevermind.
  11. I hadn't noticed before, but the Cubs lineup is actually pretty deep: (wRC+) 1) Baker (91) < 1) Hart (123) 2) Castro (102) < 2) Plush (131) 3) Ramirez (129) < 3) Braun (176) 4) Soto (101) < 4) Fielder (157) 5) Byrd (118) < 5) Weeks (131) 6) Pena (108) >> 6) McGehee (59) 7) Soriano (95) > 7) Betancourt (70) 8) Barney (88) < 8) LuCroy (98) 9) Dempster (-58) < 9) Narveson (21) That's actually not a bad lineup. Fortunately for the Brewers, they can't pitch. Or field.
  12. Braun's wRC+ is 176 this season, which is good for 2nd in baseball, behind Jose Bautista (209). From 2007-2011, the MLB wRC+ leaders are as follows: Pujols (166) A-Rod (150) Miguel Cabrera (149) Matt Holliday (148) Ryan Braun (147) Prince Fielder (145) He's an exceptional hitter, but I really don't see him being thought of as one of the all time greats. If he keeps up his current pace though, he should have a decent chance at making the Hall on the first ballot.
  13. I'm not a huge fan of the high center field angle either, but I agree with most of the top and bottom on that list. Also, it's hard to argue when Rickie Weeks is in the batters box in three of those.
  14. Same here Briggs. I love baseball transaction season because it's so easy to analyze deals due to the wealth of information available on player performance and the relative simplicity of MLB's salary structure. With football, I have no clue how to evaluate the signings. I do greatly enjoy spending 10 hours on a cool fall Saturday or Sunday watching football and making chili with my wife and my dog. A few times last year when I had a stressful week and just needed a day off, I would wake up at 6:30 and watch Premier League Football from 6:30 to 12:00 and then switch over to U.S. football until the wife decided I was being too lazy. Sadly, I just realized I won't be able to watch the Packers every week down here (I was always able to watch in Iowa). As for the greatest weekend in sports history, I've got to put this behind every World Cup Final, every Champions League Final, every Superbowl, all of those weekends with both the MLB/NHL playoffs in full swing, every first weekend of March Madness, heck every weekend during football season when both football and soccer season are in full swing.
  15. http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/mmps/023_853bcdb75556251d_1/2.jpg?partExt=.jpg&&&outquality=90&ext=.jpg&limitsize=615,500 Oh yeah, it's bath day today!
  16. The Twins are losing to the Rangers 18-1...in the 5th inning. I can't help but listen to these games.
  17. All I had heard about her was her drug problems, I honestly had no idea that she had been commercially successful. It's really not difficult to be ignorant of the success of a musician when you don't really pay attention.
  18. Well, yeah. The market adjusted before the book even came out. http://www.clemson.edu/ec...all-ijsf-sept07-rev3.pdf
  19. RockCo, I'm not saying Carroll is the first guy I'd want, or that he'll be a godsend to the club. I'm just saying he's a lot better than Yuniesky. Personally, I'd like to see Brendan Ryan or Clint Barmes. Carroll is what he is. He's not going to drive in a lot of runs but he'll look great in the 2-hole in front of Braun, Fielder, and Weeks. He probably can't play every day at SS, but even if he plays 5 games per week instead of Yuni it will help.
  20. The major difference between the Sox and the Brewers is that most of the White Sox's bad PA's have gone to Dunn and Rios, two guys who no one would have predicted to perform as poorly as they have. While McGehee was obviously expected to perform far better than he has, it was completely predictable that Yuni, Kotsay, Counsell, and Nieves would perform poorly at the plate. Counsell is the only one of those I excuse the front office for simply because they could not have foreseen his huge production drop and he is a versatile defender.
  21. Carroll's career line with RISP is really not all that bad: .252/.337/.306/.643. There is nothing to suggest that Carroll has been "brutal" this season, outside of his performance in 49 AB's with RISP. Not to beat on a dead horse, but Carroll is OPS'ing .931 with a runner on first in 48 AB's. His RISP numbers this season are just small sample goofiness; he has not performed that poorly over the course of his career with RISP. I don't consider hitting 50 points below your career OPS numbers "choking".
  22. As I was watching the Mariners lose their 15th consecutive game today, I had the same thought. He won't hit much, but he gets on base at a decent rate and is a pretty slick fielder. He's also under control for next season for just $1.75MM. I can't imagine he'd cost more than a mediocre prospect with a moderate ceiling.
  23. The thing I love about Cricket is that I never quite learn how the game is played when I watch it. Like Curling, I only watch it once every few years, so watching Cricket is really about learning the game once again. That one Sri Lankan bowler with the crazy hair is pretty awesome though. We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways to defeat the troll. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where was I... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
  24. Look at game day if you haven't. All three were 4+ inches off the plate. Oh well, a 5-6 road trip is not bad. Hopefully something gets done before the deadline though, it's getting close at this point.
  25. Ueck loved that catch! How was it, for those of us who don't have video?
