  1. D'oh! I'll take Gamel vs. L over McGehee vs. R any day. Don't understand that move. Hopefully McGehee comes through anyways.
  2. Edit: After seeing the replay Kotsay got that throw off pretty quickly on a somewhat awkward hop. Nice play by Gamel.
  3. It's either MLB's announcers or audio only from what I can tell. Omar just asked the play-by-play guy who the NL's captain for the HR derby is. The play-by-play guy had to tell him who was selected by Fielder. Earlier, they were discussing the Brewers' rotation. Minaya mentioned Gallardo, Greinke...Oh, Randy Wolf too...(looks at paper)...Chris Narveson, and Shaun Marcum.
  4. Omar Minaya is the color guy for MLB.tv today. Let's just say he was a better GM than he is a color guy. I'd kill for Bill.
  5. Gamel's at 3B. He actually just made a pretty nice play on a ball in the hole.
  6. I would love to think that, but history suggests that the Brewers will have to overpay for free agents and the only players available will be in the decline of their careers. Considering the list of potential free agents, they will probably go with Green at 3B and Gamel at 1B. As for SS, it will probably (and should) be a defensive upgrade, Jack Wilson maybe. Spend the cash on bullpen help. I guess the team could potentially be better, but it's hard to project what kind of production you will get out of Green and Gamel for a full MLB season.I have Green and Gamel penciled in at 1B and 3B right now. Even if they're slightly below average and the Brewers can sign someone like Alex Gonzalez at SS I think the trio has a good chance at being as productive as McGehee-Betancourt-Fielder, simply because McGehee and Betancourt have been awful.
  7. If the money saved on Fielder can be used to fill 1B, SS, and 3B with average bats the lineup could be as potent (impotent?) as this season's healthy lineup.
  8. That sounds like a great trip. I've long been a fan of Lagunitas simply for their great pricing on their bombers; Hop Stoopid for $4+, A Little Sumpin' Wild for $4+, etc. I've noticed that with the weather down here consistently 90'F and humid from June-August, I've really started to enjoy American Wheats, Belgian Wheats, and Kolsch styles. Even IPA's and APA's just aren't that refreshing in this heat. That said, I had Foothill's Hoppyum IPA and it was pretty enjoyable.
  9. I'm actually curious to know if a well trained Border Collie or Australian Shepherd Dog would be able to field more balls than Yuniesky Betancourt. Of course throwing would be a problem...
  10. Frontier has a flight from Nashville to Milwaukee tonight at 7:26 that should arrive in Milwaukee at 8:56. If he got out quickly and straight into a cab he could probably be to the park by 9:30 in time for the 8th inning or so. Get Boggs on this plane!
  11. I went to a Rangers game in Arlington last April (2010) and it was probably my favorite ballpark I have attended. It's a well built park and from what I could see pretty much every seat has a very good view of the field. I'm not sure if the field has much of a ventilation system though. In late April it was a gorgeous 75'F at the time of the first pitch, but it's not uncommon to see temperatures touching 100'F down there during the middle of the summer.
  12. Woah, you're at like 8 WAR this season. You ought to be cashing in big time in free agency. Wilson career vs. LHP: .212/.282/.323/.605. Ouch. Given the roster, I don't even know what I'd change (obviously apart from having some more flexibility with the Lucroy/Wolf thing). I might actually consider just starting Morgan in place of Wilson despite his career .201/.290/.276/.566 line simply for his defense. Wilson has never played a major league game in the OF. He has played RF in 1 game in the minors in his career. This could be scary.
  13. If that isn't hyperbolic I don't know what is. When Melvin took over the franchise, it was one of the worst franchises in all of professional sports. For the past five years, this team has been both competitive and exciting. How has the state of this organization now improved since 2002? I'm not saying this improvement should be attributed to Doug Melvin entirely, but to deny that this organization is in better shape right now than in 2002 is comical.
  14. Agreed on Melvin and Adams. Recall that he didn't pitch in 2007 after being only moderately effective in AAA in 2006. Sure, he had a promising rookie year, but after that he didn't really do anything in the majors or minors to suggest his sudden emergence as a dominant reliever.
  15. Ultimately I don't think the team can improve by more than 1-2 wins without going outside the organization. However, in a division as tight as the central a single additional win can very easily be the difference between a playoff appearance and another forgettable season. First, I'd drop Kotsay for Boggs. Carroll has had a nice season but I like Boggs' ability to play CF, which just makes him a bit more versatile. Second, I'd bring up Taylor Green after the all-star break and consider sending McGehee down to AAA for a couple weeks to figure things out. Ideally Green would be able to stay in AAA the whole season to develop, but I just don't think that's a luxury the Brewers have right now. I'm uncomfortable with Gamel playing 3B for an extended period of time; it's really too bad he didn't get much experience in the corner outfield in AAA. As for SS, it might be time to get creative.
  16. I think most people here realize that. He is a really useful guy if he can face a good number of righties. I don't understand why Melvin steps in and tells Roenicke to cut this garbage. Melvin has to realize that his move in the 8th inning was nothing short of idiotic.
  17. Tonight in the 8th inning Roenicke opted for Loe instead of Braddock to face four lefties in a row. He doesn't have the wrong personnel in the bullpen; both Loe and Braddock are very useful players if they're used properly. He simply doesn't understand what a platoon split is.
  18. Serious question (not trying to be smart): How limited is Saito due to his injury history? Last season, he pitched 54 innings with a 2.83 ERA (2.43 FIP, 2.69 xFIP). If he's healthy enough to be on the roster, why isn't he pitching?
  19. Yeah. I thought Montero was a switch hitter, but he is a lefty. With a competent manager, guys like Loe and Braddock are really useful. Loe has faced 86 lefties this season and 87 righties.
  20. Marcum knew he had to keep pace with Kotsay. Marcum has as many RBI's today as Jordan Schafer has on the season. That's strange.
  21. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I'm not one to condone excessive "cheer" posts in an IGT, but man was that incredible. I love this Marcum guy.
  22. The Pirates are only one game out of first place. That's pretty amazing to see.
  23. Corey Hart just looks like a guy who would enjoy some epic fireworks on the 4th, so this is only fitting. He's been putting together a pretty solid season.
  24. I read what you said. I'm arguing that if it weren't for service time, there is no way Hardy would have spent 21 days in the minors. I don't believe it was "a motivation", I believe it was essentially the sole motivation.
  25. No, at least he didn't misread a fly ball and then make a 'web gem' catch. His play in the 7th inning last night would have even been embarrassing for a little league ballplayer. Offensively, Gomez is only marginally worse than Kotsay at this point. I would much rather see CarGo in CF with Morgan in LF than Morgan in CF with Kotsay in LF.
