  1. I am looking forward to following the minor league players and looking forward to the BF.net user power 30. I don't know enough about many of the players but enjoy reading about them. I find that thread to be one of the best reads you can find on this site. Those who know the minor leagues on this site are some of our best posters. Job well done to all you minor league posters. I will also look forward to following trade rumors and as others have said watching the individual performances. Could Krush hit 40? Maybe. I also look forward to the "take a flyer on him" guys. Hope they hit on a few. Rebuilds are tough but so is being almost good enough to make the playoffs every year.
  2. Segura settled at $2.6 million, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman. I don't think that is a horrible amount for a 25 year old, year 4 starting SS with a career .266 avg
  3. Hmmm. The amateur scouting database has to be called Genuine Draft, right? Yep, I like it. That fits right in
  4. He is coming from building a winner in the future. The Brewers have tried fielding a competitive team since 2005. It was time for them to hit the reset button. Many point to the re-build the cubs went through, but look at how they were built. Many, many, many trades. A few of top picks are playing on their team (Bryant, Schwerber, Baez) and they hit on a few int'l guys. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-roster-spt-0920-20150919-story.html As a GM of a re-build, you need to continue to stock talent in the minors and continue to sign guys you can trade at the break. The more talent in the system, the better chance that when you get good you are able to fill most pieces of your team. Arcia and Phillips are on track to be playing in 2017. (I would guess both might be held back until May to save service time) ... What I don't understand is how people can knock Stearns when he has been GM for a few months. Give the guy a chance. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-roster-spt-0920-20150919-story.html
  5. Quote from MLB: In a statement, MLB said it appreciated the work of federal law enforcement authorities on the case. “We anticipate that the authorities will share with us the results of their investigation at the appropriate time,” the statement read, “and we will determine what further actions to take after receiving all the relevant information.” http://www.wsj.com/articles/ex-cardinals-scouting-director-to-plead-guilty-to-hacking-houston-astros-1452271222
  6. Did something happen other than the year and a half old article on deadspin that you bumped a buried thread?.... Did the Cardinals ever get any type of punishment? Edit: Nevermind, I see the new article was off to the side. Here is a better link to the news. http://deadspin.com/report-ex-cardinals-executive-to-plead-guilty-to-hacki-1751842009 Sorry here is the link I meant to post as court records became public today http://deadspin.com/feds-cardinals-guy-hacked-the-astros-by-using-an-old-p-1751856534
  7. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14531169/christopher-correa-former-st-louis-cardinals-executive-pleads-guilty-hacking-houston-astros-database Correa has pleaded guilty to 5 counts of unauthorized access to a protected computer. Here is a quote from US attorney: "Unauthorized computer intrusion is not to be taken lightly," U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said in a statement released by the Department of Justice. "Whether it's preserving the sanctity of America's pastime or protecting trade secrets, those that unlawfully gain proprietary information by accessing computers without authorization must be held accountable for their illegal actions."
  8. http://deadspin.com/leaked-10-months-of-the-houston-astros-internal-trade-1597951970?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow To summarize: Associate leaves Cardinals to go to Astros and turns in his laptop and password. He then goes to Astros and reuses same password. (Hand slaps forhead. Aye yi yi.) always ask yourself one simple question: What could go wrong? So far the best piece released is Miami asking for Carlos Correa and George Springer for Stanton.
  9. Griffey is an all time favorite athlete of mine. He was the best. As for the unanimous part, since voters only get 10 votes some won't "burn" the vote on someone guaranteed to get in.
  10. Lol. This made me chuckle. I like it. A Browns fan on Twitter said "why not try it, nothing has worked for us". I agree with the definition of insanity (trying the same thing over and over and hoping for different results). I have long said, since the boom of baseball analytics other sports will catch up. For instance, when it is the 2nd half of the season and you can see what type of plays are successful vs another defense on 3rd and 3, 2nd and 8, or what type of routes in certain situations on certain defenders give you better probabilities.
  11. Carlos Gomez, K-Rod, and Mike Fiers say hi. And you can't say replacing 1B is an easy task as we had Yuni freaking B playing it the year before. And looking at our first month of the season the Brewers play SF, Hou, @ StL, @ Pit, @ MN, MN, PHI, @ CHC and then Miami and Angels to bring us into the first few days of May. The Brewers will be lucky. The Brewers might be looking at an 8-20 start when that run is done.
  12. I don't get it when people say football is for idiots. One could argue more people pay attention to what is happening in a football game than a baseball game. As a fan of both sports I just don't get this comment. When I go to football games everyone is tuned into the game. When I go to baseball games, it's more a 50/50 proposition of people paying attention
  13. MLB started in 2013 NFL started testing in 2014 NBA started testing for the current 15-16 season
  14. While that may be true, why are there never reports about it?
  15. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14441114/documentary-links-peyton-manning-other-pro-athletes-use-peds I have no idea on the truth of the allegations, but I have always said how is it that only high profile baseball players get busted for HGH? You never hear of any big names from football or basketball. Are baseball players the only idiots who put their name on it?
  16. Here is a quick blurb by our own TheCrew on draft day analysis of Supak in 2014 viewtopic.php?p=896588#p896588 I like the move. I think you traded a guy for more than his worth.
  17. +1 ... Anyone can critique, that is fine. Voice direction but you really just don't know. Whether it was Brantley turning out better than La Porta or Joe thatcher turning out better than Inman or Greinke to the Angels. No one really knows.
  18. True, however our young pitchers are and to have someone as valuable behind the plate mentoring the pitchers throughout the game is invaluable. I don't see Lucroy going anywhere this year to be honest. I would love to see him traded as his value is somewhat high right now, but the perks of having him behind the plate for one more year are too rich. Plus, he could have a monster season this year and increase his trade value even more. I know Lucroy is good and all but there isn't a defensive catcher out there that might be close to as good from a game calling perspective. Who really knows how Maldy would do. I get he won't hit, but if we can get a large return, I would trade him
  19. Well said. This is where I am at. I actually might make it more games with my kids as the cost of good seats will be lower than in the past. My guess is we draw near the same amount of fans as last year
  20. Agreed. Wily Peralta was 19 at the end of the 2008 season. BF.net had him ranked 30th http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPower50.do?power50Id=89 So to me, it's hard to say this is a horrible trade. We traded K-rod for the Orioles 5th best prospect and he flopped quickly. So for me, I am fine with the trade. Stearns has my trust
  21. Revenue does not = net income. It isn't like the Brewers can match their payroll to their revenue total. As others have said, then they wouldn't have money to pay for anything. The Milwaukee Brewers financial statements are not made public thus we do not know their net income and thus do not know their position in being able to pay their players more. The only Financials made available are the Green Bay Packers and that is a different sport and not close to comparable.
  22. And that is the key. MLB needs this more than anything. Allowing teams to own their own cable networks and make gobs of money off of smaller markets playing them is the problem. The anti trust exemption is silliness. But at this point there is nothing baseball can do to fix it
  23. Agreed. It is completely out of control. Forecasting 5-10 years, the Brewers need an absolute string of luck to have years of draft picks turn out, make all the right trades and end up with a window like the Royals
  24. The bold especially but all of this is where I am at. I am guessing that no one on this board would qualify as a candidate for Stearns, so if his advanced analytics mind wanted him then I wanted him too
  25. Cy Youngs announced today and an interesting tidbit @EvanDrellich: Astros scout who drafted Dallas Keuchel was Jim Stevenson Brewers scout who drafted 2005 unsigned 26th rd’er Jake Arrieta was Jim Stevenson
