  1. A poor streak? Over their last 81 games, they are what, like 27 and 54? That's not a poor streak, that's a poor team, period. And since May 1st of last year they are 67 - 89 for a .429 winning %. This is a bad team. Period. It is time to hit the reset button
  2. How about we just see who can make it at the big league level before we start trading guys away. If Sardinas and Arcia both turn into something special - that's a good problem to have
  3. It's really unbelievable ... I could easily pick 3 people off this board I would rather hear
  4. To get to 90 wins they need to go 87 and 58 for a .600 winning percentage. I know it's only April 24th but this season is looking rough
  5. This was one of my main thoughts as well. The unwritten rules of baseball existed in the mid 80's as well, maybe even more-so. Agreed. During a Bob & Brian radiothon here in Milwaukee, Robin Yount once spoke about a great story in the early 80's where Kent Hrbek (a rookie) laid Gumby out at 2nd base. He never really slid, just basically ran Gumby over. So the ensuing inning, Yount comes to the plate and gets on first. And as luck may have it there is a ground ball to 2nd base. So Yount takes out their SS. Without hesitation Vukovich and Ted Simmons made a bee line for Kent Hrbek and pounded him good. Yount "There are times where retaliation is needed and he had it coming" ... "he had to learn that isn't the way how to do it" That story would never happen today
  6. Well, in closing. Heck of a game by Jimmy. He was great. I would love to see more of that out of him
  7. lol ... yay, another caught looking strike 3. At least this guy throws 100000 mph and you can just say you didn't see it
  8. lol ... Rami just got rung up on strike 2. Even blue just wants to get this game over with
  9. Lazy fly to right doesn't mean he would have scored... What is your point, that Herrera's approach was good? He needed to put the MFing ball in play, literally anything would have been better than a K. You are saying my plan if I was the manager to tell him to put the ball in play or go directly to the airport back to AAA would have worse than just sitting back allowing him to strikeout looking? I agree Topper - You never strike out looking in that situation. You just can't. You are spot on with it being bad managing. On a side note; your plan has me laughing. That would be awesome if he came back to the dugout and RRR handed him his boarding pass. lol
  10. lol - I am so glad we signed this clown for 2 years at $13 million. Just laughable. Doug, there was a reason this guy went unsigned all off season. But you were the only one who didn't see it
  11. most teams who get a lead off double out of their 9 hole would find a way to plate the run ... just not your 2015 Brewers though
  12. I will say this, Braun still remains a tough out. Seems to always work a decent count. If he could just get his power back
  13. Old school Braun would deposit this into the LF bleachers. New school Braun might barely get a hit to right but that would get the job done
  14. That goes up there with one of the all time rants. Good stuff. Lee Elia will never be topped though
  15. Looking at the list of managers who have won the World Series since 1995: Cox, Bobby Torre, Joe Leyland, Jim Torre, Joe Torre, Joe Torre, Joe Brenly, Bob Scioscia, Mike McKeon, Jack Francona, Terry Guillén, Ozzie La Russa, Tony Francona, Terry Manuel, Charlie Girardi, Joe Bochy, Bruce La Russa, Tony Bochy, Bruce Farrell, John Bochy, Bruce That isn't a list of the Ned Yost's / Ron Roenicke's of the world
  16. Unless we are talking a player-manager, no, the manager doesn't make much of a difference. There are only a couple great, difference-making managers in MLB, but part of what makes them great is that their philosophy aligns with management. Firing Melvin is the only decision that would be of any consequence. I agree that firing the GM has the largest impact. I would say can the roving hitting instructor in the minors but we already did that last year and have a new one in Jeremy Reed. (Probably a side thread but how did he even get that job? Seems very odd for a career under achiever) But anyhow. I will say some managers just have a six sense for pulling the right strings. We have not had a manager who has it. But there are some who always seem to make the right decision. Call it luck or whatever, but a manager has an impact too
  17. On the surface, the Brewers are at a similar cross roads the Cubs were at recently. The Cubs won the division in 2007 & 08. Just missed it in 2009, but watched their payroll balloon from $99 mil in 07 to $144 mil in 2010. Due to a bunch of horrendous contracts they then went on to spend 134 / 109 / 106 / 92 / and back to $120 mil for this year. The Brewers have watched payroll climb steadily over the past few years and once again are at an all time high. After collapsing last year, similar to the 09 Cubs who just missed the playoffs, they bring the band back for another run. Just the same, it doesn't go well. The Cubs were saddled with more bad contracts than us but we are at a similar cross road. After finally realizing at the end of 2010, the Cubs started blowing it up. So will the Brewers finally blow it up during and after 2015? As some have mentioned the real target should be 2018 to compete again. This team is bare at the upper levels and a refresh is needed.
  18. This. If the Brewers fall that far out - guys will be traded And you just hope there is a taker
  19. I wonder if Counsell is more in line for a GM position. This would be my vote. See if you can find a Matheny type and get lucky
  20. @Brewers: Catcher Jonathan Lucroy will be placed on the 15-day disabled list tomorrow with a fractured left toe. Catcher Juan Centeno to be recalled. When it rains it pours
  21. Look no further than the GM. He built it and has his hand in all development
  22. He has 1 post season series win in 20+ years as GM. How he is still employed here is baffling
