  1. Thames & Aguilar for Josh Bell? No way. The only positives for the Brewers in that deal are saving a roster spot since Bell is a switch hitter and saving some money.
  2. The Orioles shouldn't be spending money for the next 4 or 5 years. Getting rid of Davis' contract does pretty much nothing to help them in the long run. But since it's the Orioles they will probably package Manny and Davis' full contract for a couple marginal prospects or major league roster filler to keep up their delusions of being competitive.
  3. You cannot compare any trade that's ever happened in baseball to that. Pure desperation to maximize their chances of ending 108 years of losing. I have a hard time believing 2 months of Mike Trout would cost more in prospects. We're about a month away from desperation setting in with multiple teams. If you're going to trade one of the top relievers in baseball and possibly your most valuable trade chip at this time of the season you better be getting quite a haul back. If this was the best offer available on July 31, then so be it. But if it's the middle of June and you're offered a potential 4th outfielder and a fringy 3B, you gotta hold out for something better.
  4. Reporter: Why has the offense been so inconsistent? Counsell: We need more consistency. I didn't read his comments as calling anyone out, simply stating the truth. When the guys who should be our best hitters aren't getting it done, the offense sucks because everyone else in the lineup sucks. That's a fact. If he's calling anyone out, it's Stearns for keeping Arcia, Perez, and Sogard on the roster.
  5. A half season of Chapman brought the #1 or #2 prospect in all of baseball and more. Herrera is not Chapman level but he's still top flight. The Royals could have and should have gotten a better return. Especially 6 weeks before the deadline. You can't tell me some team wouldn't have topped this offer on July 30 or 31.
  6. Okay I get what you are saying, but your logic to go with one of these two over Machado can be used to prove Machado is worth it too. Acquiring Manny Machado would be like an NL team replacing their pitcher in the line-up with an MVP potential bat. Yes he would cost more, but he is also a major improvement over Mercer/Iglesias. You get what you pay for because we currently are getting about zero value from SS. But a medium or a large, you are going to get your moneys worth. Just a matter of how much you want. What isn’t worth it is paying the price to get an average player at 2B when we already have an arguably average player there already. Probably not worth the price for a questionable improvement. Well, I don't want to pay for a half season of Manny Machado, so that's that.
  7. Either would be a .150 to .200 increase in OPS over Arcia. That would be a mammoth improvement. Basically replacing an average hitter with Manny Machado and would cost a hell of a lot less.
  8. When I was thinking about what might the Angels want if they actually were to seriously consider trading Simmons, my first thought was Shaw. Then also a major league starting pitcher, Guerra or Chacin. I doubt the Brewers would trade Chase and I doubt Suter or Woodruff would do anything for LA. Then throw in a Brewers prospect not name Huira or two and you've probably got a deal. So we're looking at something like Shaw, Guerra, Ray, and Burnes for Simmons. Fair? Maybe, but I'll pass. Creates too many holes.
  9. It's too bad Suter doesn't have better stuff because he's a Cy Young winner at every other part of being a pitcher.
  10. One of the great mysteries of baseball: why is hitting contagious?
  11. Just opened the Biloxi gameday. Nick Ramirez is back to playing 1B now? And homered by the way.
  12. Is it just me or are the Phillies OF'ers playing way up the middle? All 3 balls this inning were down the line and it took the OF a long time to get there.
  13. Suter is like Sogard, except he actually does good things for the team.
  14. https://twitter.com/Majin_Drew_/status/1006981833978929152 While this version of it still exists.
  15. Finally saw this and tried to watch, but MLB has apparently wiped this from the internet. Terry Collins' mother is probably quite happy about that.
  16. Hadn't noticed that. I would have thought if Villar wasn't starting against a RHP it would be Sogard at 2B not Perez. Maybe the Brewers stats say to stack righties against Arrieta.
  17. The Angels didn't just acquire a bunch of good players through free agency and trades the last couple years to trade one of those guys away for prospects. And as for their chances this year, I was just looking at the standings this morning. They are 7 games out of a wild card spot and in third place 7 games out of first in their division but have more wins than the AL Central leading Indians. They have a lot of ground to make up but their record isn't bad.
  18. All pitchers do during BP is shag fly balls. They're used to it. The other guys who played LF were a former catcher who can't play defense anywhere and their regular starting catcher. I'm sure the defense was a wash at worst. While some don't like the ROOGY/LOOGY philosophy, it got him the matchups he wanted and saved bullpen arms. I won't say it was genius but it was a great use of resources and something more teams should do if they want to play matchups.
  19. I get it, you can wipe away an entire season if it doesn't fit an agenda. He has made adjustments, which is easy to see if you compare his pre-pitch movement today vs earlier in the year. Plus, both CC and Coles have said they're working on some things, including focusing on the opposite field. You may want to be sure before you question a player's devotion. Otherwise it's a very cheap shot to take at a player, you're better than that. Not questioning his devotion, questioning his willingness to make changes, which a valid question with a lot of the hitters on this team. A lot of the same crappy approaches from the same guys the last couple years.
  20. One good season, followed by an incredibly mediocre season at a place and league where anybody can put up a .750 OPS is doing very little in my book. His season at Biloxi doesn't fall in line with anything else he's done at any level. I fail to see any of the adjustments he's supposedly made. Yes, I remember a lot of times last year where he was driving the ball the other way but all I see this year is a guy flailing away at anything within a foot of the plate.
  21. I remember a few years back when many of the same posters that are roasting Arcia in this thread were also convinced and outspoken about how bad Jean Segura was at baseball. Let history be a lesson here. Arcia is 23, yes twenty freaking three. While he's struggling at the moment and not necessarily the answer this year, let's not act like there's not plenty of time for him to turn things around and be a plus player for the Crew down the road. I'm pretty sure a lot of posters were disappointed when we traded Alcides because they were sure he would become at least a competent hitter. That never happened. Goes both ways. Orlando has very done very little in the minors as a hitter and has looked like crap at the plate the last 3 months. It's not like you can say he's got a good swing or a good approach so the hits will come. Everything looks terrible. He needs a total rebuild as a hitter. I'm guessing (hoping) the coaching staff has been trying to do that all year and he's made zero adjustments. I think that says all you need to know about him.
  22. I think the interesting thing from that is the umpire basically said "we'll give you a chance to hit him, just not now."
  23. Are the Cubs the only team that has their logo on their pants?
