  1. Games like this make me really miss Matt Vasgersian. BA has no clue how to call a laugher.
  2. Freaking rain, I needed 1 more out from Harvey to get a QS from him.
  3. I feel like we're saying this a lot since Stearns took over. Maybe it was because the farm was pretty bare at the end of Melvin's time, or maybe because we're actually competitive now, or maybe it's Craig's/David's love for (s)crappy AAAA players.
  4. Hernan Perez has never been an above average hitter by OPS+ in his entire career, not even close. Bref puts his career oWar at .9, and it was 1.7 in 2016, meaning the rest of his career is negative. I had to look up his numbers because I thought he would have been at least close to average at some point in his career, but no. He's a decent 25th man but plays way too much in Milwaukee. He got almost 900 PA between 2016 and 2017!
  5. I guess I'm missing where the brilliance is. When he hits a homer every now and then between the first pitch ground outs and three pitch strikeouts?
  6. Perez needed to go weeks ago. While the results are the same, Sogard can at least give you a good AB. Perez and his "swing at everything and sometimes you might hit something" approach is embarrassing to watch.
  7. If we DL Yelich .. what day would that be retroactive to? If there is any doubt in Yelich's return, DL him for the remainder of his retro time and get another bat up here. When your bench is 3 people and those 3 people are Sogard, Kratz, and Perez ... your options are sinfully limited. Also, I just looked at the 40 man and Dubon is not listed on the 60 day DL .. is that accurate? Yes. He would have to be called up to go on the 60 day DL. Doubtful they would pay him MLB salary and burn service time to be on the DL.
  8. Arcia sent down (praise Jesus Aguilar!) for Aaron Wilkerson.
  9. I'd have to say that if Broxton had any value of significance he would have been traded near the end of spring training. Guys who don't have a spot on a major league roster but are major league quality get traded then, and he didn't. I can't imagine a few good games in the majors after spending half a season in AAA has changed his value one bit.
  10. I think Braun or Yelich hit the DL today unless one of them can come back for sundays game.. cant play the 23 man game. I think we would have heard about someone being on the DL by now. Highly unlikely they could get someone to make it from a night game in Round Rock, Texas last night to an afternoon game in Cincinnati in time to start today.
  11. We all love Keon right now. Let's see how we feel in a couple days. A few 0-4 with 3 k's may change some opinions.
  12. Definitely need to see him throwing off the mound before any time table can be set for his return but I am going to go with late August or early September for Nelson's return. Which with that time table would probably push DS to go for a top rotation guy... which next year and maybe the year after will only improve the depth of the rotation overall. Good things all good things. If he hasn't been looking for a "TOR" guy yet I don't know why he would start now. The offense continues to be a much bigger deterrent to winning than the rotation.
  13. This is temporary. They added Z because they don't care about losing him when they take him back off the 40 man roster. That is not the case for Ramirez or QTC. As soon as one of Albers, Miley, Davies is ready Z will be gone. Or if they actually use him in a blowout, they might rotate him for Lopez right away so they have a fresh arm in the pen. Miley is the only one who needs a 40 man spot and I honestly have no idea where he even fits on the MLB team when healthy. Even so, to activate him they could dump Asher, Franklin, or Sogard or move Franklin to the 60 day DL. I understand how the roster manipulation makes sense to call up Z over others but choosing him specifically makes so little sense. If they wanted a mop up guy they could have brought back up Asher or Lopez and kept a 40 man spot open. Heck, if they wanted a crappy old guy they could later DFA and lose nothing if claimed they could have call up Dillard.
  14. Gonna go down the Orf hole again... So a 35 year old with an ultra crappy major league career gets called up and the reason is he put up good numbers in AAA. Yet, much younger players that would fill pressing needs on the major league roster (Orf & Ramirez) also put up great AAA numbers and don't. And this isn't really a dig at Counsell and Stearns. Lots of posters saying Orf won't get called up because the organization doesn't care how good his numbers are, they just don't see anything in him. Here we have an over the hill total failure as a major league pitcher get called up and the reason given is that "he's got good numbers".
  15. No kidding! I don't know what else Ramirez has to do to earn a call-up. Zagurski is about as blah as you're gonna get for a lefty reliever. Maybe they are just looking for a guy they can call up for a few days until his spot is needed on the 40-man, without having to worry about him getting claimed on waivers. That's the only way this makes sense. Ya, the only logic I can see here is that Z sticks around for a couple series and then he's off the 40 man. But they had an open spot and needed to add someone whether it was Z or Ramirez anyway.
  16. I'm sorry, what? Sure, get a lefty to face lefties but this guy? Who LHB have a .753 OPS against in his major league career and hasn't pitched in the majors in 5 years.
  17. Mathematically, no. But who knows. Wasn't it a sweep by the Reds last year that pretty much put this team in the dumps.
  18. Minute Maid Park inflates offense? The Astros hitter's OPS is over 100 points lower at home than on the road this year.
  19. Roof operators know this offense. Closing up shop on this game.
  20. Can someone tell the announcers it's Jeff-RESS not Jeff-ERS?
  21. Nothing like facing the Brewers to get a pitcher back on track.
  22. Whos' the third guy in the booth? Seems like a former player.
