  1. The way this offense is going, defense be damned. Play Yelich at SS if you have to.
  2. Miller's contract for the rest of the year is more than Sogard's for the whole year. A claim or trade for him and they have to pay that. And also pay Sogard whether he's in Milwaukee, Colorado Springs, or the unemployment line. They're not going to take on that contract with a "eh, let's see what happens attitude".
  3. His BABIP is almost 60 points higher than his career and even with that his slash is only a little better than league average. His K% has steadily risen throughout his career and his defense is below average anywhere you point him. If he clears waivers and comes at the league minimum I'd give him a shot and hope to catch some lightning, otherwise I don't think he's much of an improvement over what's already on the roster.
  4. It's ESPN, there's you're problem. Baseball-Reference has it correct. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2018-starter-pitching.shtml
  5. Both are phenomenal pitchers, better than anything we have now or in recent years but I'm passing on both. Injury histories for both and neither do anything to help our pathetic offense. In fact, they would only hurt it since I'm sure a few current or soon to be MLB hitters would be included in the trade. I'm not giving up 3 to 4 very good/potential to be very good major leaguers for 1 guy that is only going to play every 5 days and very likely to be injured at some point.
  6. Every year can't be an outlier, pretty much the opposite of the definition. Santana has always had power until this season. Who knows, he's trying to focus on higher OBP and lower slugging. Or, it could be temporary and he will hit a bunch of bombs in the 2nd half of the year. Outlier as in 2017 is a really good year and 2018 is a really bad year because the real Santana is somewhere in the middle. Domingo really looks like he has no idea what he's doing at the plate. Swinging through hittable strikes and wildly swinging at anything with 2 strikes. For his sake and the sake of the Brewers offense, he needs a couple weeks in Colorado Springs.
  7. When the Reds inevitably trade Scooter, I'd be interested to hear people's opinions of releasing him if he reverts to his old self with his new team.
  8. When players make wholesale changes to their swings, they generally do so on their own and work with their own personal coaches.
  9. The home plate ump clearly didn't. He looked confused as to why he was even out there. And Craig actually looked like he was upset for once instead of his usual half-hearted, I'm only here because I supposed to be here schtick.
  10. Or an offense. An offense would be a good thing. Ya, pretty much need offense. Improving the starting pitching would mean losing 2-1 instead of 4-1.
  11. This game is two hours old and we have yet to complete 5 innings with a grand total of 3 runs scored. How is that possible?
  12. Unless he plays till 44 like Ichiro, I highly doubt he gets 3000 hits.
  13. Didn't Hanger make some serious changes to his swing when he got to Seattle? I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. If true, then he probably isn't the same player in Milwaukee.
  14. Who would have expected a guy with a career OPS+ around 80 to add 40 points to that immediately? And that trade brought in Chase Anderson who's a solid mid-rotation starter at worst, Isan Diaz who was included to get Yelich, and Aaron Hill who brought back Aaron Wilkerson who will probably contribute in some way eventually. I'd label that trade as a push right now.
  15. Let's also not forget Jimmy wasn't anything special until last year. 2017 could have been his career year, injury or not. Wily Peralta looked to have figured it out at one point too.
  16. Neither would be used for more than an inning and with All Star break now 4 days, both would be ready to resume their normal roles on the first game out of the break. Hader is a lock and for Jeffress it would be an awesome honor considering his career ups and downs. Considering the rate at which pitchers randomly get hurt I don't want any of our pitchers anywhere near the all star game. This place would burn to the ground if Hader felt a twinge pitching in the all star game and missed a month, and rightly so.
  17. Please keep Hader and Jeffress out of it. While they are deserving, there's no reason to waste their arms in this pointless exhibition. Send Sogard if you have to. I really couldn't care less about which Brewers go or don't go.
  18. Wasn't Rizzo involved in another couple incidents either this year or last where he was clearly being the idiot?
  19. I've been trying to get our garden planted all weekend. But it's been too damn hot to spend big chunks of time in the sun. When I was out there this morning I was thinking "I wish this garden was more in the shade." Then I realized that kind of defeats the purpose.
  20. It would be awesome if MLB would release a transcript or the audio of the what the umps are talking about during replays so we can understand how they come to some of their conclusions. I'm sure that will never happen though.
  21. How exactly do you enforce no "takeout" slides at home? There's no raised base to stop the runners momentum so the runner will always slide through and over the plate, the catcher needs to stand on the plate to get the out, and the runner needs to slide directly into the plate to either be safe or avoid breaking the rule. I'd just tell my catchers for any force out at the plate stand right on top of it, wait for the runner to slide and then "flop" when the runner gets there to get a guaranteed double play. Rizzo clearly tried to take out the catcher, thereby violating what the rule is intended to prevent. But based on the wording of the rule I don't think the correct call is 100% clear.
  22. Any perceived value Hamels has is basically on name alone. He's not much of a pitcher anymore.
  23. When they show the replay up the line Rizzo's body was sliding right toward the plate but he sort of hooks his legs out. I would totally agree that violates in the intent of the rule but I'm not sure if it violates the letter of the rule. Either way Rizzo should be drilled tomorrow and if they can figure out a way to do it, Maddon too. Why the hell was he arguing that the Pirates challenged and then arguing after the replay was in his favor?
  24. Re: rotation in the playoffs. With the extra days off, the majority of the innings are going to go to the bullpen ala the Cardinals a couple years ago. As weird as it sounds, I'm not really worried about the rotation in the playoffs. On the way there though, it's certainly an underwhelming group.
